Chương 22: The Bunny Girl, Hildr

"King of Vampires, have you not even given up after the suffering you caused us?" The pink-haired Valkyrie who fought him in the past accused as soon as he arrived in front of her.

They were currently in the unnamed village. To be precise, Hildr was alone here, gazing at the stars and probably brooding about her misfortune. Well, everyone did; no single man or woman never broods about their misfortune anyway, unless they are completely lying.

Her rabbit ears drooped low, and her eyes were no longer as bright as in the past. When she stared at him, there was unending hatred in her gaze. Her stance was preparing herself to strike him with a spear at his heart, but the moment she saw Odin's spear, Gugnir, clutched mockingly in the vampire king's hand, her resolve faltered.

"Do you recognize this spear, Valkyrie?" Titus taunted her with a playful and almost mocking tone as he showed off his Gugnir in front of her. The spear, once wielded by The Allfather, was now completely in the vampire king's hand, and she was utterly powerless at the supposed opportunity of snatching The Allfather's possession back as his gaze held her in place.

His crimson eyes were more than enough to unleash the fear in the deepest part of her heart and shatter her will to fight.

The aura of despair unleashed by the King of Vampires was more powerful than the potent aura and pressure unleashed by the God King, Odin.

This made her helpless. Even her sheer willpower couldn't last long. As she was on her weak knees, kneeling in front of the King of Vampires.

Her pitiful and stubborn state of staring at him with killing intent was enough to make Titus feel something stirring in his heart, probably sadistic pleasure? He didn't know. One thing for sure, he loved those lovely eyes and stroked her rabbit ear softly as he spoke.

"Anyway, let's talk, Valkyrie. In the past, twenty years ago, when you struck me with your sisters, you didn't hate me as much as you do now. What changed?" he inquired, his tone laced with curiosity.

"Humph, don't think I don't know what kind of scheme you're cooking, King of Vampires." Hildr stared at his hand, which was stroking her rabbit ear with a humiliated look. She wanted to slap it away, but unfortunately for her, even moving an inch itself was very difficult because of the fear inducement the King of Vampires gave her.

She could only watch unwillingly as the vampire toyed with her ear while she was kneeling in front of him.

He was better than Loki when it came to schemes, much as she hated to admit.

Since that day, Asgard was no longer the same. Even her own sisters were suspicious of her, and her two other sisters couldn't integrate into the Valkyries' circle peacefully because of the constant doubt from them and their hatred for the fact that many of the Valkyries died saving them. Even their eldest sister joined the undead ranks and attacked them, which made their position in Asgard even more embarrassing.

She was no longer as naïve as in the past. After getting a lot of cold shoulders and being isolated, she recognized that perhaps everything was this vampire's scheme.

Not only them, her two sisters were suspicious of her. The mental pressure of being blamed made them almost break and blame all of the problems on her. If their eldest sister were here, everything would not be like this.

Hildr sighed regretfully.

Twenty years have passed since that incident. She heard a lot about this man's deeds. He would travel around the world with a group of unknown people to slay the gods. They proclaimed themselves as heroes from the past, but seeing this man's evil grin, she didn't believe they were heroes. This man didn't show the qualities of a hero at all. Why should she believe his companions were heroes?

"It seems you're at your wit's end, Valkyrie. I assume your life is tough in Asgard; that's why you brood a lot, isn't it?" Titus smirked, releasing his hand from her ear, and sat down on the broken stone in the unnamed Viking village.

"It's none of your business, King of Vampires." Hildr snorted angrily.

"Well, how about I give you the opportunity to regain your honor, Valkyrie?" Titus didn't care about her spiteful attitude and offered.

"I will not work for you." Hildr refused.

"No, it's not working for me, but we need a lot of people, a very large number, to kill the gods. You and your sisters are undoubtedly very much welcome on our team. Don't you want to gain fame from this too? The experience, the fame, and the honor you bring from this will undoubtedly make you respected again. If you refuse, so be it." Titus chuckled as he stood up from his broken stone and prepared to leave.

Hildr, knowing the rare opportunity to regain their honor without compromising their loyalty to The Allfather, couldn't help but swallow her pride and apologize.

"I apologize, King of Vampires. Please stay. I will let my sisters know about your invitation, and we want to participate in your hunting."

She knew better than anyone that the fame brought to the King of Vampires by killing gods was so great that most people knew who this man was. His fame surpassed his father, Crimson Moon, and she would never miss this opportunity to regain their honor back.

"Unfortunately, I don't hear a sincere apology from you, Valkyrie. I only hear you want to take advantage of me to get what you want." Titus then turned his attention to her and playfully lifted her chin. She didn't refuse as she stared at him stubbornly.

"I will do anything for the apology, King of Vampires. Please allow us to join your team."

"Anything...?" Titus moved closer to her face, his breath almost touching her.

"Yes, anything." Hildr gulped nervously when she saw the predatory stare of the King of Vampires.

"Ahem... As long as it doesn't sacrifice my honor or my sisters." She then corrected it, almost to the point of blushing after realizing the meaning of her unambiguous reply.

"You're boring, Valkyrie. I will let you know when I decide what to do with you later." Titus then released her chin and disappeared as if he had never been there in the first place.

But only Hildr knew that wasn't the case.

She sighed.

Hopefully, her choice was correct.

At least she thought it was correct.

It's just slaying the gods, after all.

What could possibly go wrong?
