5 - Who’s Gonna Stop Me?

As Shirou entered his soul sea again, he stared up at the monolithic gears slowly rotating in the sky, an wondered what their purpose was. Usually, a person's soul sea is related to their aspect, but what do cogs have to do with swords?

Shirou looked down and noticed that there was another weapon piercing the ground. As Shirou walked closer to inspect it, he noticed that it was the same sword that the girl, Ingvild according to the Nightmare Spell, used when they fought.

Just like last time, Shirou gripped the hilt of the sword which caused the scenery to change. This time he didn't let go, as he felt that he needed to see this through to the end.

He saw the sword being passed from a sickly women to a little girl, who held onto it with a bright smile on her face.

Storm Ruler

Shirou does not know how he knows the name of the sword, but ignored it and kept looking through the memories of the blade.

The scene changed, and he could see that same girl, although somewhat older, getting the sword torn out of her hands. She was then knocked out and dragged away, which most likely led to her ending up in the arena alongside Shirou.

Shirou let go of the weapon after noticing that it's past is extremely extensive. It must have been used for countless centuries. He realized that Ingvild was most likely a descendant of the Storm God, as he recalls the announcer in the arena saying something about that.

As Shirou walked away from Storm Rule, he then recalled the real reason he came into his soul sea. He called upon his runes.

Name: Shirou

True Name: —

Rank: Aspirant

Soul Core: Dormant

Memories: [Washing Pole]

Echoes: [Ingvild of the Storm]

Attributes: [Mark of Divinity], [Mind of Steel], [Child of Swords], [???].

Aspect: [Abandoned Blade]

Aspect Description: [A blade is defined by their wielder. As you are abandoned, there is nothing that defines you as you are a purposeless blade]

In his two previous battles, Shirou was able to easily read and counter his opponents attacks. It should not have been possible for an aspirant to defeat both an awakened monster and awakened human.

He thought that it might have to do with his aspect, but nothing in it's description hinted at him having this strange precognition. He looked towards his attributes before realizing he had a 4 attributes, not 3.

At first, he assumed that it was just some sort of glitch in the Nightmare Spell, but now he wasn't so sure. He focused on the three question marks and the description of the attribute appeared.

[???]

Attribute Description: [You are a sword forged for the sole purpose of cutting through @#%\. Therefore making you able to read the @#%\ of all swords. Although you are still affected by @#%\, but it does not truly bind you]

Some of the runes were incomprehensible to Shirou, yet he was able to understand the general idea. He was able to predict the movements of his opponents due to the fact that they were wielding swords. He assumes that this most likely applies to other weapons, and decreases in effectiveness depending on how far it is from the concept of "sword".

I also seem to be immune to… something, so that's nice.

Shirou than looked at his Echoes, before focusing on [Ingvild of the Storm].

[Ingvild of the Storm]

Echo Rank: Awakened

Echo Type: Beast

Echo Description: [Ingvild was a young girl born in the Temple of Storms. She was praised to to having the blood of the Storm God flowing through her veins, and was given the Storm Ruler, a blade that can command the storm itself. Unfortunately, she was captured by the followers of the War Goddess, and met her untimely demise at the hands of @?/-%~ #* %_@!]

Why didn't it just say my name?

Shirou ignored the spell's antics and read through the rest of the runes.

Echo Attributes: [Mark of Divinity], [Undrowning], [Child of Storms].

[Mark Of Divinity]: (You bear a faint scent of divinity, as though someone briefly touched by it once, a long time ago.)

[Undrowning]: (Although you abandoned the sea, the sea will never abandon you.)

[Child of Storms]: (You are blessed by the sea and storms. You have a high affinity with these domains.)

Echo Abilities: [Galebreathe], [Sea-Sunk].

[Galebreathe]: (The Storm God has left behind the ability to control the winds.)

[Sea-Sunk]: (You are one with the water, in the most literal sense possible.)

As Shirou read through her runes, he realized that the only thing she use against him was [Galebreathe]. Most of her abilities and attribute are probably only usable near water, so she was severely handicapped when she fought him.

Shirou proceeded to summon the echo herself. In a flash of white sparks, she appeared right infront of Shirou, her eyes having no life to them.

Echoes were quite literally the echoes of a living creature. Of course, they were not truly alive, but they were able to fight at a similar level as they did in life, while carrying over all of their prévois abilities.

As Shirou and the echo looked at each other, he sighed after accepting that she truly is dead, and that there is nothing that he can do about it.

Oh, it's more of a silver with purple highlights than just pure purple.

Shirou dismissed the echo and exited his soul sea. He walked over to the crimson-eyed girl and said, "I've gotten all the information we need. I was even able to get an awakened to agree to help us."

She looked at him in shock. Shirou guessed that she probably didn't expect him to be ready this fast, and he isn't, but he's not willing to let this last any longer.

"The only thing we need is some water, since hee aspect ability is correlated to it."

She nodded at him and thought for a second before saying, "I have a way of getting water."

Oh, well that's convenient.

Shirou nodded and started telling her the plan. After telling her about it, he realized something, "Oh right, is their anything you need to do before we start?"

"There was, but if we really have an awakened on our side, than our chances of succeeding are good enough that it is probably not necessary," she told him after some deliberation, "and it will be more exciting this way."

Shirou was baffled after that last comment.

Is she a battle freak?

Shirou walked away from her and towards the door, and after knocking on it loudly, the man who leads the children to the arena appeared.

When the man saw him, he smirked and asked, "What? You already want to go back into the arena?"

Shirou smiled at him before saying, "Nope, but you will certainly be going to hell."

"Wha-," he was cut off by a curved sword decapitating him. As his headless body fell to the floor, a young girl can be seen standing behind him with blood staining her blade.

[You have slain an awakened human, Nameless Follower of the War Goddess]

[You have received a Memory: Rebellion]

Shirou turned around to the other children, and with a smile that does not suit the situation, asked a question.

"Who wants to get out of this dump?"
