Chương 9: The Two New Member

Nikos and Liriel were surrounded by adventurers, and one of them shouted, "Hey, you!"

Liriel's body tensed up seeing so many adventurers circling them, while Nikos carefully observed the crowd.

The adventurers' eyes were wide with anticipation, and they leaned forward, their feet tapping the street impatiently.

"Is the stall open?!" another one finally asked.

Ah, the promotion worked like a charm. Nikos smiled at them. "Yeah, we're just about to open the stall. Please line up orderly," he said, holding Liriel's hand as they made their way through the crowd to the stall.

Now standing beside their modest stall, Nikos quickly pulled out potions and other items to sell.

Liriel felt a wave of relief wash over her as she realized they weren't in danger. All these people just couldn't wait to buy their product. Then she started helping Nikos arrange the items.

The adventurers gathered in a half-circle in front of the stall, swarming around the stall like moths drawn to a flame, anxious not to miss out on this cheap and high quality products.

"I'll take 8 health potions and 4 mana potions," called a female adventurer.

"That'll be 3 gold and 12 silver, miss," Liriel replied, handing over the purchases.

Another adventurer, not wanting to be left out, called out, "Me! Me! I want 7 mana potions, 10 healing potions, and this magic pendant."

"That will be 8 gold and 12 silver," Nikos calculated, then smoothly added, "Would you like to add this magical glove? It pairs perfectly with that magic pendant. I'll give you a special price of only 3 gold more. So, instead of 11 gold and 12 silver, just 11 gold for you. How does that sound?"

The customer happily agreed and paid 11 gold, feeling pleased with his deal paying 12 silver less.

"Hey lady, how much for this round shield and 6 health potions?" asked another adventurer.

"The shield is 3 gold, plus 1 gold and 16 silver for the potions. That's a total of 4 gold and 16 silver, sir," Liriel quickly calculated, completing the transaction to serve the next customer.

As Nikos was attending to a customer, another one quickly shouted her order, "5 healing and 10 mana potions, fast please!"

"Yes, please be patient for a moment," Nikos smiled at the customer, efficiently handling each buyer one by one.

Nikos and Liriel were busy managing the flock of customers. Now their stall also become a vibrant part of this bustling night market.

From a distance, Reychard watched them being busy and smiled. Then he walked away to meet his teammates again, leaving Nikos and Liriel to their bustling sales activity.

Two hours passed, and as the last customer left, they realized there were no more buyers for the night. The pair tidied up their stall and ended the day, even as the night market still had a couple more hours before closing.

Nikos and Liriel returned to the inn to count the money. Out of the 329 basic potions they had, they managed to sell 167 potions in 2 hours, earning 50 gold and 2 silver. Adding the sales of other non-potion items, they made another 13 gold and 12 silver.

In total, they made 63 gold and 14 silver in just 2 hours.

What an easy money to gain, but it just a starting point the moment the business stabilize, more will come. Nikos looked outside the window with sharp eyes.

For the next few days, Nikos and Liriel continued taking quests while gathering herbs. Afterward, Nikos would create more potions, and stocking up some for future purposes. At night, they would open their stall to sell their products.

Over these few days, Liriel also began to feel more comfortable around Nikos. She realized he wasn't as bad as she had often imagined slave owners to be—in her case, he was truly her boss, a good one.

Their cheap potions also started gaining popularity among adventurers, spreading by word of mouth, and their stall's reputation slowly increased day by day.

Now it had been a week since Nikos last deal with Lukas, the slave trader.

In just a week, Nikos had already gained 909 gold—almost a thousand. This amount would usually take other merchants a month to earn. But for Nikos equipped with the merchant system and his little business knowledge, earning a thousand gold in a week was easy.

It had only been a week, and these earnings came only from selling basic potions. Imagine when we starts selling a wider variety of potions. How much will we earn.

Having a lot of money is always nice, isn't it? Nikos grinned at the results.

It was time to add more subordinates. Nikos and Liriel headed back to Lukas's mansion. At the gate, Lukas was already waiting for them.

"Sir Nikos, I knew you'd come back. My instincts are never wrong," Lukas greeted him with a confident smile.

Nikos nodded, "Sir Lukas, I'm here to pay for the rest of them."

Lukas walked over to Nikos side, gesturing politely towards the mansion's entrance. "Please, come inside first. I'll prepare some tea for you."

They entered the mansion, with Liriel trailing closely behind Nikos and Lukas.

Once inside, Nikos and Lukas took seats facing each other, while Liriel stood behind Nikos's chair.

"Sir Nikos, I've heard some rumors from adventurers lately. They say someone in this small town is selling potions cheaper than the Alchemist Association. Is that perhaps your doing?" Lukas inquired politely, sipping his tea.

"Rumors tend to be just that—rumors. Unless you check them out yourself, you can't be sure what's true. People love to exaggerate," Nikos responded back with a polite tone.

Lukas let little laugh, "But my instinct tells me it's true. Besides, you need not to worry, Sir Nikos. I'm not fond of those alchemists either, so I won't sell you out."

Nikos gave a light smile at Lukas's reaction.

"Let's get back to business, shall we, you came here for this?" Lukas clapped his hands, and the butler left the room. Moments later, he returned with a lizard-man and a female human slave.

Nikos inspected them. They appeared healthy; it seemed Lukas had fed them properly. Let's check their talents again, just to ensure I remember correctly.

They stood up, completing the magic transfer possessions of the slaves to Nikos.

With their business at Lukas's mansion concluded, Nikos bid farewell and left, walking back to the inn with Liriel and their two new companions.

Back in the inn room, Nikos turned to his new subordinates.

"Like with Liriel, I don't have a need for slaves. I chose you both because I see potential in you to be my subordinates. So..." Nikos drew out two 'Magic Contract' scrolls. The parchment crackled with energy as they activated, hovering in the air beside him.

"I, Nikos Aarav, appoint Jarek Bladetail as my subordinate. I will look after him and pay him fairly for his work. In three years, if his work is deemed satisfying, he can buy his freedom from me for the amount of 1 gold."

The 'Magic Contract' parchment filled with Nikos's new contract.

"Likewise, Marielle Dovehart, I, Nikos Aarav, appoint her as my subordinate. I will look after her properly and pay her fairly for her work. In three years, if her work is satisfactory, she could buy her freedom for 1 gold."

The second 'Magic Contract' filled with the new contract. Nikos placed a drop of his blood on both contracts. "Go ahead, place your blood," he instructed them.

Jarek and Marielle exchanged confused looks and turned to Liriel. She gave them a reassuring nod, having gone through the same confusion before.

Jarek, the lizard-man, was the first to speak, "I don't... thinksh this is necessary, Master Nikoss... I accept my state as your shlave. Thish... is my punisshment," his voice low with a faint hiss between some words, reflecting his origins as reptilian lineage.

"Yes, Master Nikos, you already purchased us, we are in your possession now," Marielle added, her tone was soft, "as.. for my freedom, it's very generous of you… but... maybe it's not the best," her voice trembled slightly, as she release a gentle sigh between her words.

Nikos listened to them patiently, "Just put your blood on the contract for now. In three years, if you see that I'm worth of your loyalty, you can decide for yourselves then."

The two looked at each other and after a moment of hesitation, followed his order, "Yes, Master," placing their blood on the contracts.

The magic contracts sealed and disappeared into thin air. Afterward Nikos explained to Marielle and Jarek what his works is, their roles, and the plans moving forward.

After giving them a brief overview, the two nodded in agreement. Now it's time to move on to the next step.

"Let's head to the adventurer guild to sign you two up," Nikos said.

Chương 10: Investigation Quest

At the inn previously, Nikos handed gear to Marielle and Jarek. After they finished changing, the group headed out to the Adventurer's Guild.

Marielle walked gently beside Nikos, dressed in a loose-fitting white robe that concealed her curvy figure. Her long black hair rested softly on her shoulders and around her neck, beneath her slave collar.

She wore a magical pendant that enhanced her healing abilities and last she held a brown, medium-grade magic staff in her right hand.

Jarek followed behind the group, his tall and powerful physique is a testament to his reptilian heritage. His imposing presence ensured no one dared to mess again his master.

Jarek's armor covered his chest, stomach, and shoulders, leaving his back exposed to showcase his strong, metal-like skin. He wore a silver helmet and carried a massive greataxe by his side.

And in addition with Nikos and Liriel, they resembled a small party of seasoned adventurers.

As they walked, Nikos asked Jarek, "Jarek, what's your magic class?"

"I'm an expert warrior, Masster," Jarek replied, his voice carrying a faint hiss.

"Is that all? Do you have any other classes?"

"No, Jarek only hasss common talent. Why do you ashk, Masster?" Jarek looked at Nikos, curious.

"Common talent? What does that mean?" Nikos asked.

"People are considered to have a common talent if they only have one talent, sir," Liriel help clarified Nikos confusion.

"What if someone has more than one talent?" Nikos inquired further.

Marielle added, "Having two talents means that person is a genius, Master. But it's quite rare for people to have more than one talent."

Nikos fell silent, processing the new information. I have four class slots, and I can easily switch between them. Also I'm not the only one with this capability; Jarek has two, Marielle three, and Liriel also has three. Maybe the magic ball for detecting talents isn't advanced enough yet.

The group continued their walk until they reached the Adventurer's Guild and stepped inside. Nikos walked up to Nori's desk.

"Miss Nori, how are you?" he greeted her.

"Oh, Sir Nikos, I've had quite a bad day, but seeing you has made it a bit better. Are you here to take another quest?" Nori responded with a smile.

"What a poor lady. You can always tell me if you're having a hard time. As for the quest, I'll take one later. I'm here to register these two as adventurers," Nikos said, placing 4 gold coins as the registration fee on the desk.

Nori giggled, "It's okay, Sir Nikos. It's just work stuff. I'll register them now."

As Nori handled the registration for Marielle and Jarek, Reychard approached Nikos from behind. "Sir Nikos, nice to see you again."

Nikos turned to him, "Ah, Reychard, nice to see you. I've been busy with my business, and also I'm grateful for your help in promoting my stall," he said, giving a polite bow. "I'll give your party a good discount next time you come."

"You're welcome, Sir Nikos. You deserve all the praise. Your gifts were really helpful in the dungeon last time," Reychard said.

"I'm glad my items could help."

Reychard glanced at Jarek and Marielle. "Is this your new party, Sir Nikos?" he asked, pointing to them.

"Yes," Nikos replied.

"The lizard-man looks quite strong. He'll definitely keep you safe," Reychard commented, assessing Jarek's skills with a single glance.

"You're right. I'm lucky to have him," Nikos agreed.

Reychard nodded in agreement. "Alright, I need to go now. Good luck on your next quest, Sir Nikos," he said, bidding farewell.

"You too, Reychard," Nikos replied with a nod.

Before Reychard went out he turned to Nori, waving his hand. "Bye, Nori. Do your best."

"You too, Reychard. Don't push yourself too hard," Nori replied, her word producing a smile on Reychard's face as he left the building.

Nikos observed these interactions, finding them quite amusing.

He turned to Nori, "Miss Nori, have you known Reychard for a long time?"

"Yes, we've known each other since childhood. We both grew up in this town," Nori explained. "Why do you ask, Sir Nikos?"

"Nothing. I was just curious about your relationship with him,"

"Oh, we're just friends. We didn't had any relationship beyond that," Nori added, feeling the need to clarify.

Well that's going to be hard for him, Nikos sympathized while gave a polite smile to her.

Nori finished registering Marielle and Jarek and handed them their adventurer cards. "Here you go. All done."

The cards were bronze, signifying their start as F-rank adventurers. Nikos had essentially formed a new party.

"Thank you, Miss Nori. We'll take our quest now," Nikos said, guiding his party to the quest board.

"Good luck, Sir Nikos. I look forward to hearing more good news from you," Nori said with a smile.

Nikos returned her smile and turned back to the quest board, reading through the available beginner quests.

He picked one that caught his eye.

Nikos turned to his party. "Since we've just formed a party, we'll take this beginner investigation quest. Any thoughts?" he asked, handing the quest parchment to them.

Liriel took the parchment and read it, with Marielle reading alongside her.

"This is definitely a good start for our party. You've thought this through, Master. I have no additional comments," Marielle said.

"I agree, sir," Liriel echoed.

"Jarek?" Nikos turned to Jarek.

Jarek replied, "I can't read, sso I will follow after you, Masster. I'll protect you."

Liriel handed the quest parchment back to Nikos, and he placed it in his magic inventory bag.

"Alright, then let's get going," he said, leading his new party to complete the quest.

In the heart of Oakheart, a sizeable building stood tall. Inside its main hall, a few adventurers were buying potions from rows of wooden shelves. However, the number of customers had been decreasing lately, which was quite unusual.

In the back room, within the manager's office, a half-elf slept soundly on a comfortable sofa. Meanwhile, outside, the sun was high in the sky, signaling that it was midday.

On the outside the residents of Oakheart were doing hard work during the day, in stark contrast to the half-elf, who was lazing around in his office.

Knock knock

A knocking sound came from the door.

"Come in," the half-elf said in a sleepy voice.

A human male entered the room and stood before the half-elf. "Manager Lark, I'm here to inform you that our sales this week have shown quite a decrease from the usual," he said with a worried tone.

The half-elf, Lark, remained silent for a moment, still drowsy. Then he spoke, "Well, these things happen sometimes. It will go back up eventually. Now go back to your work. I'm still sleepy," he said, waving the human away.

The human staff member sighed, nodded, and left the room.

Lark closed his eyes again. "Why worry so much? It's not like some new competition will show up and crazily compete with the associations," he mumbled as he drifted back to sleep.

Meanwhile, In the northeastern jungle of Oakheart, Nikos and his party had been exploring for a few hours. The jungle was relatively calm, with only the occasional small monster appearing, which Jarek easily dispatched.

We've encountered fewer monsters than expected. That means we should check out the monster dens to see what's going on. Nikos observe the surrounding area as they explore the area.

The group were also gathering Silverleaf and other herbs for basic potions. This time, Nikos instructed them to collect two new herbs for a new potion recipe.

The first ingredient was 'Wind Moss,' a magical moss that grows on cliffsides and has a small magical attribute that enhances agility.

The second was 'Mandrake Root,' the root part of the mandrake plant, which counteracts magical and natural poisons.

The group collected these materials as they explored the jungle. As evening approached and night began to fall, Nikos decided to find a safe spot to camp for the night.

Nikos turned to his teammates, "Does anyone know how to find a safe area in the jungle?"

Liriel and Marielle shook their heads.

"Masster, I know how to do that," Jarek hissed.

"Show me, Jarek. bring us to a safe spot."

Jarek nodded and guided the group to a secure area deep in the jungle. Nikos also watch after him and learned how Jarek do it.

Once they reached a safe spot, "This will do," Nikos instructed his party, "Jarek and Liriel, go find some firewood. Don't stray too far. Marielle, you and I will set up the tent here."

"Should I bring any animal for dinner, Masster?" Jarek asked.

"Do that if you found some. Otherwise, focus on the firewood."

The trio nodded and set off as instructed. Jarek and Liriel went to gather firewood, leaving Marielle with Nikos.

Nikos pulled out a variety of materials for the tents from his magic inventory bag: magical fabric to keep warm at night, animal skins for the tent's sides, magical vines for the basic structure, and more.

He laid all the materials on the ground, and Marielle began assembling the tent.

Marielle who seeing Nikos help creating a tents, said softly, "Master, you don't need to help. Let me do it all for you."

"No, it will be faster if we work together," he replied, continuing to construct the tent.

"You're a strange person, Master Nikos," she remarked, a hint of amusement in her voice.

"Is that a bad thing?"

"No, it's not bad. You're just so... nice," she explained.

"I'm not that nice. I could be bad too. Do you want that?" Nikos turn to look at her.

Marielle's eyes met his, locking onto his blue gaze as if she were entranced. She quickly turned her head away, flustered. Nikos smiled softly and continued working on the tent.

As they finished setting up the tent, Liriel and Jarek returned, bringing firewood and two deer for dinner.
