Chương 4: Chapter 3 - Shadow Slave recommended by Spider Man.

Ethan had never read such a long contract in his life. He knew contracts could be much larger than this one, but he was still incredulous at the number of pages he had to sign.

The number? Three pages.

For Ethan, this was entirely new.

On the first page, he had to enter his author name, "Anon_Eth". Anon is for anonymous, and Eth is part of his name. It was a cringe name he didn't mind using since he just wanted to make money.

On the second page, he had to enter his bank details.

And on the last page, it was just a simple signature. After everything was signed, Ethan sent his contract for review. While his contract was being processed, he continued to write.

Ethan opened the chapter catalog of "Shadow Slave" and began writing from chapter thirty, where he had stopped before. He wrote ten more chapters in a few hours and then went out to eat.

He went to the nearest McDonald's and bought a combo with a cheeseburger, fries, and a Coke. It was the last money he had left.

Ethan hadn't gone to work today. It was Tuesday, so he should have been working. However, Ethan didn't even know if he still had the job. Is everything still the same?

Ethan also hadn't tried messaging his parents and older sister. Ethan doesn't know if his parents and sister are part of this alternative universe.

While eating his meal, Ethan scrolled through his contact list.

"Should I call my mom?" Ethan took a bite of his burger and called his mother's number.

After just a few seconds, his mother answered. A soft voice came from the other side. "What happened, son? Are you in need of money again? I told you to come back home, didn't I?!"

Hearing his mother's voice, Ethan stopped chewing.

'They do exist in this universe... Thank goodness...'

For some reason, tears streamed down Ethan's face.

"It's nothing, mom. I just wanted to call to say I love you."

"Hm? Did something happen? You've never done this before. You can tell me anything, alright? I'll listen."

"..." Ethan was momentarily speechless and then wiped his tears. With a smile on his face, he replied to his mother. "Mom, don't worry, I'm fine. Soon, I'll show up at your door driving a nice car."

"It's good to dream, son, but please don't do anything wrong."

"Don't worry, mom. I promise I won't do anything wrong. I love you."

"I love you too."

Ethan hung up his phone.

He felt relieved that his family still existed in this world. Ethan had no friends in his old universe. The only thing that mattered to him was his family.

This may change, but only his family matters for now.

After finishing his meal, Ethan got on his bike and returned home.

It was already getting dark, and Ethan took a cold shower before grabbing his laptop to check his contract status. When he saw the system notification informing him that his contract was accepted, Ethan started jumping with joy in his room, annoying the neighbour.

"Hey, shut up!"

"Sorry."

Ethan apologized and then posted five more chapters of Shadow Slave.

Ethan was going to lock the chapters tomorrow to start gaining money.

And speaking of his novel's performance, it was going very well. His novel was ranked 40th with 1,127 votes and had over 50 reviews with an average rating of 4.72. His rating had increased, showing that more and more people who liked the story were appearing.

Ethan felt increasingly excited.

But to his disappointment, a message arrived in his email the next day.

[Chase Bank]

It was an email from his bank. In it, the bank demanded payment and also mentioned that the interest rates were increasing significantly.

Even if Ethan locked the chapters today, the 25th, he probably wouldn't make enough to pay off his debt. According to the contract, payment would be made on the 10th of each month.

And the sales period would be from the 1st to the last day of the month.

'It's June, so I have five days to sell as many chapters as possible. I need to work like a slave.'

Ethan grabbed a cheap cup of coffee early in the morning and started writing as fast as he could.

When night came, Ethan posted 30 chapters at once and made the novel premium starting from chapter 25. He didn't care if it was too soon; he just wanted to sell as much as possible.

Fortunately for Ethan, the results were incredible.

####

However, the result mainly came because Ned found his novel online and recommended it to Peter Parker, who wasn't far away, reading it on his phone while preparing to start a stream.

Peter Parker read the last paid chapter and said:

"This is damn good."

The first topic in the livestream was a novel called "Shadow Slave," written by an unknown author named "Anon_eth."

When Ethan woke up the next day and saw his novel's numbers and many comments mentioning Spider-Man, his heart almost stopped.
