49. Third Evolution

Everyone slowly dispersed from the field as Sarah and the others looked at each other, "I'm going to get some extra training in. With the individual skills test, we won't need to train as a team this week." Jacob said as he headed off.

"Jacob's right. We should all train separately for now. We can meet during meal times." Sarah stood up.

"Alright, I'm going to go wash first. I smell like beast breath." Aala sighed as she got up and walked off.

"I'm heading to the library." Ithil also headed off.

Sarah and Zion returned to their dorm room, where Sarah began her regular stretching exercises.

Zion went to his sleeping spot, where he stored the multicoloured crystal. He pulled it out, then laid on his bed, 'I can finally use this.' He then looked at Sarah, '"Sarah."'

She looked up from her downward dog stretch, "Yeah, Zion?" She noticed the crystal between his paws and sat up, "You said you could only use that crystal just before you evolved. Are you about to evolve?" She asked.

He nodded, '"Yes. Like before, I don't know how long it will take for me to evolve completely. Hopefully, it will take around three days, like last time. I don't want to miss you kicking ass."' He chuckled.

She smiled at him, "Alright. I'll watch over you as always. Good luck." She went back to her stretching.

Zion swallowed the crystal, making his body feel warm and tingly; then he laid his head down and opened his status, then mentally tapped on the option to evolve. As always, options showed up, and he ignored them all and focused on the Two-Tailed Fox option.

'Yes, it worked! Last time, this was a D-rank form. Now it's a C rank. And with my fire and earth affinities above 50%, I'm comfortable choosing it this time.' He chose it directly and was surprised when a system prompt showed up.

'So... once I pick this, I won't get options like before when I could choose from the scout-like fox, the attack-based fox and so forth. Is that right?'

'Huh, that's pretty cool. It's kind of annoying that the evolution changes from just level to also having other requirements, but that makes sense if it's a special bloodline. It's fine, I still accept this.' He nodded, 'I choose the Two-Tailed Fox form.'

[[Confirmed. The host will commence evolution now.]]

He felt the familiar feeling of falling asleep, 'Oh, this is good...' He only managed to think that before passing out.

Zion spent five days evolving. A cocoon of rainbow-coloured mana surrounded him as his body was slowly changed and adjusted. His cocoon grew slightly in size to accommodate the evolution.

Finally, as Sarah was sitting and doing some work for one of her classes, she heard a soft cracking sound. She turned around and looked at the mana cocoon and saw it had cracked. She moved from her chair and sat beside the cocoon excitedly.

The cocoon broke entirely, and the mana flew off in shards before losing shape and becoming mist, then vanishing altogether.

Laying in the centre of the bed was Zion. He slowly sat his head up, yawning widely. His white fur glistened in the light. Now, however, he had a rainbow stripe that went from the tip of his nose down his head, spine and then split down the center of each tail.

His lilac eyes shimmered as he blinked at Sarah and smiled, '"Morning, Sarah."'

"Afternoon, actually. How do you feel? You look different. The stripe is new." She giggled.

'"Stripe?"' He looked at his back and was surprised at the rainbow stripe down his spine. '"Well that's definitely new."' He then smiled and raised his two tails. Each tail was now 4 meters long.

Sarah's eyes widened seeing his two tails, "You... you have two tails? You're a Two-Tailed Fox?!" She was dumbfounded.

He chuckled and stood up, stretching with a wide yawn. He now stood at a height of 4'5 with a body length of 5 meters, around the same length of an adult male crocodile.

"Wow you're the same height of us now." Sarah giggled happily as she pat his head. He quickly summoned up his status.
