Chương 57: A new skill! | Ken's first spell

Ken glanced at the Horror Beast that was wobbly and almost on its knees, "An incomplete evolution? No... just lack of power and energy," he concluded, tossing the revolver to the closest guard, "Keep it safe," he ordered and jumped to the front of the line formation that was formed by Adventurers and Guards with players filling up the gaps or just around the formation.

Ken drew his sword that glowed blue and soon after was covered in white, followed by his hands and feet. He infused mana just in case and for an extra boost.

Ken calmly walked forward, not caring about the massive tide of monsters, "Players, kill the ones that try to scale the wall. Also, close that damn gate!" he commanded and instantly his orders were followed.

Ken stood confidently as he waited for the first monster to confront him. And of course, he didn't have to wait long.

The first monster was a ginormous snake that could swallow him in one gulp. The ginormous snake lunged at him, but Ken just 'quick-stepped' away and right to its side. He chopped down with his sword, and the ginormous snake was beheaded.

The snake's body writhed, but Ken avoided it and walked ahead, confronted by a giant black cat-like monster. And again, Ken beheaded it instantly. These monsters were far too low a threat for the current Ken; only the Horror Beast could pose a challenge for him.

Ken took a deep breath and rushed directly to the monster tide, his calm expression turning into a grin.

And it was pure carnage. Ken slaughtered every monster in his path. The sword danced chaotically, while his body smoothly played around.

Every time Ken stepped down, he would disappear and appear beside another monster and directly behead it, then disappear and appear beside another monster again. He continued this and did so even more, his movements becoming more fluid, unpredictable, chaotic.

He slashed diagonally, straight down, curved, from below, and then more and more were added to that mix. Ken began to speed up, his movements a blur to anyone's eyes.

Ken's status kept increasing with each kill, his status, which was already above what should be possible for his level, going even higher.

Then a system notification popped up. Ken briefly glanced at it and ignored it.

[New Skill: Slaughtering

Every time you kill 25 you will get a 1% status buff for 10 minutes.

It can be stacked, same for the time

The duration increases with the level, 1 minute per level]

Ken obtained a very good skill, a skill that would help him eliminate the monster quicker after all none of the monsters that raged out of the forest were a match for him. Even if Ken was only level 40 he might have breezed through this monster tide but he is level 70+ making the monster only a hassle due to their numbers.

Ken's kill count had already reached 1500 and was still increasing, and unlike before his kill count was increasing way faster.

---Ken pov---

Another slash and another monster down... this is getting repetitive.

I looked in annoyance at the thousands of weak monsters that kept pouring out of the forest, all of them with a small almost hidden red glint, which was the sign of control from the Horror Beast.

I tightened my fingers around my sword and divided the upper and lower half of a monster in a clean cut, while with my other hand, I slammed an orc down to the ground, its head buried and crushed.

My hands were covered in blood. I grabbed the leg of another orc and hurled it at a boar-like monster. I ignored the two monsters that had collided and rushed into a mismatched group of monsters, proceeding to brutally kill them.

Peeking back at the wall, the situation was a little irritable... to say the least.

I gritted my teeth and started to clear out the monsters faster. My sword, which had become rhythmless after I got a new skill, found its rhythm and began to dance, my body just following my sword.

I slashed down diagonally, then my body twisted, making a 180-degree turn and chopping off the back leg of a monster that was like a mix of a raccoon and a pit bull. My sword grazed the ground, but my shoulder twisted, making the sword fly up, cutting off the front leg and the head of the monster.

I was getting my sword to dance and redirecting it. This was wrong. I was letting my sword lead me, but this was also the best here. To kill more, I needed my sword and brutality to lead, not my mind.

I brandished my sword in a surprisingly smooth and slow motion and split a rattlesnake-like monster that was so close to sinking its fangs into me. The monster's face and neck slit into halves. I jumped back, feeling the air around the snake monster become acidic, likely the poison of the snake melding into the air.

My senses tingled, and from the corner of my eye, I could see a boulder coming straight at me. I leaped to the side, barely avoiding it, and glanced at the Horror Beast that was a little more wobbly.

Haa... It's very weak at the moment. I could take this chance to launch a sneak attack, but it was still a beast, and a Horror Beast at that. Even if its evolution was lacking energy, it would still be a crushing defeat if I tried my hand at it without at least being level 85 or 90, and even then, I am not sure of victory.

Of course, I wouldn't get even a bit of thinking time here. There was a hawk diving right at me while a wolf was lunging at me.

Well... perfect. I moved out of the way and punched the wolf lightly, making it take my place. The hawk swooshed in, snatching the wolf and flying away.

I ignored the stupidly perfect maneuver that had just happened and proceeded to navigate through the crowd of monsters, slitting the throats of the big ones while outright cutting off the heads of the small monsters.

And again, killing was getting repetitive, which wasn't good.

I glanced back and well... the wall was being scaled by the little monsters, and the guards that were only level 20 or 30 were being killed. The adventurers and players were holding up well at the front, but the small dog and cat-sized monsters were just going around or under them.

Tch... this is getting a little too pathetic.

I am at half mana... well, good enough for those weak monsters.

I sheathed my sword and brought out the book of records while avoiding and backing off to the walls. "Show me a mass-killing spell."

The pages turned, landing on page 503... I frowned; Eleis had used the book of records without me knowing it again. I didn't bother to check the contents ahead and read out loud the spell as I channeled my mana. "Toxic Tempest...?" I stopped channeling my mana immediately, 'Tempest' in a spell means it going to be big, and seeing the environment... well shit, this spell will probably grow out of control.

It sun wasn't present which was the work of the horror beast making the temperature around the city drop causing some temperature differences and atmospheric instability... this will really grow out of hand but.. the book of Records is linked to me and for it to present me this spell must mean it is the best option.

I took a deep breath as I kept avoiding the monster and decided my action, I rushed back to the wall and leaped on top of the 30-meter wall as if it was nothing, and with my current status, it really was nothing.

Landing on the wall I looked around at the guards that were killing the monster that claimed the wall, some guards seeing me land hurriedly came to but I ignored them. I need to cast this spell, I faced the monster tile and read out the chant of the spell as I channeled my mana out "By the breath of the tempest and the venom of the serpent's bite," a magic circle began to form in front of me as I chanted and channeled my mana.

(Image of the magic circle!)

"I summon forth a storm of poison to sweep away the blight. Winds of fury, hear my plea, carry the toxins far and wide, Let the noxious gale unleash,"

I poured my mana in, nearly 90% of my mana was in the spell now.

"By my will and by this spell, let the poisoned winds fly free, Toxic Tempest, rise and wreak havoc upon my enemies."

I paused and took a deep breath as I held back the spell from bursting, and then I let it free, "Toxic Tempest," I deeply called out its name, and the spell burst forward with the wind raging down from the sky to the forest. The spell circle glowed bright green and sprayed out green gas that mixed with the blowing wind and blasted into the forest.

The spell circle started to dissipate, and I was only left to watch... I couldn't see it properly, but I could make out an image of a green tempest forming in the forest.

---omniscient pov---

Inside the forest, a green tempest started to form.

(Image for those of you who have a hard time imagining it!!)

It started to rotate slowly, but with the blasting wind that kept barreling down, it rotated faster and faster. The tempest started to grow speedily and ripped a tree off the ground, flinging it to nowhere, and then another tree, and soon after it wreaked havoc.

The tempest, with the powerful wind that fueled it, raged, becoming a colossal tempest that destroyed all in its path.

This was Ken's first spell...
