"I've kept you guys waiting for long enough. It's time for us to finally go the long unknown expedition and pursue the incredible mysteries of the world!" May said confidently.
"This time we are going to explore that unknown river on Dewford Island!"
After her Wurmple evolved into a Silcoon, May was always very excited the last few days. She seemed to have already seen her future beautiful Beautifly dancing around her.
In order to celebrate Silcoon's evolution, and for Ash because he had caught a Corphish and an Aron, the group decided to go out on an another adventure.
Because she was in such a good mood, May even used her hands to pose as if she was live broadcasting to who knows how many people.
"That's right, if you go upstream of this river, we might be able to encounter new rare Pokémon!" Max had always been looking forward to meeting all sorts of new Pokémon's.
"The May Expedition Team is now carefully walking along the river on an unknown route. What is the mysterious phenomenon waiting for them ahead?"
As they were walking, what appeared in front of the group was a huge waterfall, which was around three stories high and looked very beautiful. They didn't expect to find such a huge waterfall on the middle of the island.
"Can anyone believe that what's stopping the May Expedition Team from moving forward is a huge waterfall!"
Indeed, if they could not climb over this waterfall, their adventure tracing to the upper reaches of the river would probably end right here.
"However, the more out of reach a place is, the more likely there are more rare and unknown Pokémon's living there!" Brock was also infected by May's and Max's enthusiasm and also wanted to find some kind of rare Pokémon here.
Recently, the group had been very keen on looking for some of the Pokémon's living in the island. Ash had already caught three new Pokémon's, and Brock and May are also a little bit ready to catch a new Pokémon for themselves.
"Everyone should try according to their abilities." Ash suddenly suggested.
Except for Max, everyone here was a Trainer. Ash wanted to see if his group could use their Pokémon's ability to climb over this waterfall safely.
"Okay, let me try it first!" Brock took the lead, "Come on out, Lotad!"
Brock's always slow Lotad has become much smarter recently under the careful care of him, and their Bond Value was also very high, not to mention it was already good to begin with.
They saw that Brock holding a rope, tying a stone to one end, and throwing it to the big tree above the waterfall. It was difficult to throw it directly up with such a high degree of manpower, but Brock was assisted by his Lotad's Water Gun to make sure that the rope could tie itself to the tree.
"I'm taking the first step!" Brock slowly climbed up with his trusty Lotad.
"Next is me!" May had it easier. She pulled herself up with the her Silcoon using its String Shot, which was much faster and safer than Brock's method.
Max stood next to Ash, "Big Bro, what should we do?"
Ash looked at him, a pink light shining in his eyes. He was just relying on his Psychic to make himself and Max float over the waterfall easily.
As much as Ash wanted to use Teleport, it was very taxing on his energy. He was practicing hard, but it's been going pretty slow.
"Wow, that's so cool!" Seeing that everyone successfully climbed over the waterfall, May cheered. This was the first time she realized how powerful a Pokémon Trainer could be.
After climbing over the waterfall, everyone suddenly felt like they had entered another world, surrounded by mist and lush water plants everywhere they set their sight on.
"The water flow here is so slow." May first noticed that the water flow here was much slower than anywhere else in the area, which may be why this place had such a pleasant environment.
"That's because this side is a tributary, and the other side seems to be much more fast-flowing mainstream because it is connected to a different route." Max explained while flipping through his PokéNav.
Walking further, the soil began to become much more softer, and the fog was also beginning it clear away.
In front of them, a group of very cute Pokémon appeared slowly from the fog.
"Look, those are all Mudkips!" Max immediately recognized the Pokémon in front of him.
It was Mudkip, the Water-type Royal Starter of the Hoenn Region.
It was also the first Pokémon that May came into contact or rather unsuccessfully commanded with at the beginning of her journey.
She still remembers that Water Gun attack when it hit her face.
Mudkips are known to like to bury their body in the mud at the bottom of the river to rest and heal form any injures. The soft soil here is indeed very suitable to be their natural habitat.
"They are still very small, I think they are just some of the newly hatched ones!" Brock made an accurate judgment from what he could see.
Such immature Pokémon have almost no fighting power. Just like the Ralts lying on Ash's head, they cannot be trained at this stage at all.
Ralts will just have to stay on Ash's head for some more time before she can start training. In the meantime, she absorbs some of Ash's Psychic energy to boost her own reserves.
Before that, Ash had done this process with all of his Pokémon's that hatched from Eggs.
"Baby Mudkips are so cute!" May thought about these babies and wanted to capture one to expand her team. "This is a good opportunity, I definitely need to capture one of them!"
Unexpectedly, as soon as she walked a few steps forward, a bigger adult Mudkip suddenly jumped out of the grass from the side and hit her with a Water Gun, just like her first time.
May calmed down this time, "No, this Pokémon really does hate me…"
At this time, while several little Mudkip were playing around, a baby Mudkip accidentally fell into the river. Originally, the water here was very slow and not dangerous, but at such a young age, they did not have enough strength to swim back to the shore and it began to slowly drift away to the waterfall they climbed up from.
"No, that's the main stream ahead!" Max suddenly panicked. In that fast-flowing main stream, this little Mudkip would be in a lot of danger.
The bigger Mudkip was very decisive and immediately jumped into the river and quickly came to the smaller Mudkip that was being taken away by the current.
But even though it was relatively large compared to all the other Mudkips, it was still carrying the little Mudkip with it in the increasingly turbulent current, so it couldn't return to the shore easily. It could only try to take the little Mudkip back to the land.
With a flash of pink light in Ash's eyes, he picked up the two Mudkips from the water and brought them to him. Brock went up to check them immediately and found that they were all safe, just the smaller Mudkip being a little scared of them.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief after hearing Brock's words.
Max and May looked at Ash with stars in their eyes, "Your Psychic is so convenient!"
However, looking at the little Mudkip who was back playing together with his friends again, and the adult Mudkip who glanced at him a little longer and then walked away into the grass again, Ash just smiled bitterly and said, "Everyone, we seem to have entered a restricted area."
"A restricted area?"
Sure enough, as soon as Ash finished speaking, an old man with a hairstyle that looked that of a Mudkip fin appeared from the grass nearby.
But May was back to her usual self. "What appeared in front of May's Expedition Team might be the legendary Mudkip monster that grew old and became a spirit to hunt everyone that comes near it!"
Ash, Brock and Max looked very embarrassed by May's actions, "May, be quiet!"
"How did you get in here? This is a forbidden area of the league, you can't enter here! Didn't you see there are railings at the entrance to the swamp?" The old man asked, but he could have never thought that Ash and his party had climbed over the waterfall from the back.
"Sorry, we came upstream without realizing that this was an off limit area!" Max was a very honest child and quickly explained their situations to him, "We really didn't know that this place is forbidden to enter!"
"No way? Did you kids really climb over that waterfall?" The old man exclaimed.
The group of people introduced themselves. The old man's name was Mr. Swampy, and he was the Pokémon Breeder responsible for taking care of all of these baby Mudkips. Finding out that Ash also rescued one of his little Mudkips, he didn't care about them coming here unintentionally and invited the group to his home.
"Mr. Swampy, what are those?" In Mr. Swampys cabin, Max noticed there were a lot of Pokémon Eggs in the incubator at first sight.
"Those are all of my Mudkip Eggs!"
The color scheme of these Pokémon eggs was very similar to that of Mudkip, with a blue shell and some orange circular markings throughout the Egg, which looked very cute.
It turns out that this is one of the few secret base of the Hoenn Pokémon League to Breed members of the three Royal Starters. And Mr. Swampy here was a Pokémon Breeder that specialized in Mudkips, then he entrusted them to the League to distribute them to the Rookie Trainers around the Hoenn Region.
Pokémon like Mudkip are very difficult to encounter in the wild. Only with Ash's incredible luck was he able to catch all of the Royal Starters from his two previous regions.
And now, there was a whole Mudkip group that appeared in front of him, so how can he miss this opportunity?
"By the way, Mr. Swampy, we just met a relatively large Mudkip. Is that one of the Mudkips that your took care of when it was growing up?"
Brock asked about the adult Mudkip that heroically rescued its little companions and then was rescued by Ash later.
Although Ash had already made some guesses in his head, he was also planning to ask Mr. Swampy again for confirmation. He will definitely try his best to find ways to catch the Pokémon from the Royal Starters group as they are always very reliable.
Sure enough, Mr. Swampy replied with the word that Ash was largely hoping fore, "No, that one is just a wild Mudkip that managed to sneak in from somewhere else. He seems to regard the Mudkips here as his little companions."
"That Mudkip should be pretty good is he managed to gets here." Ash guessed out.
"He is a very good Mudkip, but he has grown too big and he also doesn't want any Trainers from what I have seen. He has such a talent but he wasting it all here." Mr. Swampy seemed to be very troubled by this. "And all of his companions here will be sent away sooner or later to their new Trainers, which means that he will no longer have any companions with him."
The Mudkips here are all Pokémon's that will eventually become the Starter Pokémons of many new Trainers and would be sent to various places around the Hoenn Region, so they all have the same level requirements. The level of this adult Mudkip is obviously too high and is definitely not suitable for beginner Trainers that are just beginning their journey.
There's no way they can control such a Pokémon all in their own.
However, Ash liked that Mudkip very much, "The little Mudkip was in danger just now, and the older one put on a good show on how he fought without fear of his very own safety. I hope to catch him, is it possible, Mr. Swampy?"
"Of course that's ok with me!" Mr. Swampy certainly agreed fast.
During their chat just now, he unexpectedly learned that Ash was actually a high ranking member of the League Headquarters.
Mr. Swampy, who worked for the Hoenn League, immediately had a great impression of Ash because of this.
At this moment, an alarm sounded from the restricted area. Someone must have broken into the entrance from the other side, the main entrance.
The ones who appearf there at that time were of course non other than two humans and one cat.
May suddenly became excited, "Okay, let's see what events the May Expedition Team will encounter next!"
The group quickly followed Mr. Swampy to the entrance on the other side, and Ash had noticed that the big Mudkip in the grass beside him and stopped.
The Team Rocket Trio can be left to Brock and May to deal with. Catching his second member of the Hoenn Region Royal Starter was his main business, the Water-type one.
Speaking of which, Ash had caught a lot of Water-type Pokémon since he traveled to this plane to existence. He had already formed a full team of very powerful Water-type Pokémon before. Now that his trip to the Hoenn Region had just begun, he was already preparing to catch his third Water-type Pokémon so far.
And every one of his Water-type Pokémon is very powerful. If Misty could have such a team, the road to becoming a Water-type Pokémon Master would be much more smoother.
Unfortunately for Misty, she just didn't have the same amount of luck as Ash or his drive to become even stronger than what he already is.
"Little guy, how about becoming my partner?" Ash got straight to the point and extended his hand for the invitation directly.
However, Mudkip took a step back slightly, probably hesitating whether to continue to stay here with the rest of his own species or to join a new Trainer who had left a very good impression in front of him.
Brock and the two inexperienced siblings followed Mr. Swampy to the main entrance, only to find that the fence had been very much destroyed and the main mechanism for the alarm had been removed completely.
The intruders were obviously none other than the famous and lovable Rocket Trio.
"Team Rocket, why are you trying to do something like this again?" May stood up and asked.
"Do these kind of things? Are they bad people?" Mr. Swampy became anxious when he heard this. "No, if the dam over there are destroyed by them, the water in the swamp will be overflowing, and all the little Mudkip babies will be washed away by those currents!"
After saying this, Team Rocket suddenly understood that in fact, they just followed Ash and his group and broke into this place by mistake. They really didn't expect to encounter such a random but thing thing.
"Mudkip, I heard that those are some very rare Pokémon's!" James obviously had the best knowledge about different Pokémon's out of his group.
"Thanks to you twerps, we know know how to execute the plan and capture all these Mudkips here!" Jessie also came up with a plan to take advantage of the moment to take away all these baby Mudkips.
The most important thing is what Meowth noticed around, he quickly said his observations, "It seems that the little boss is not here, meow! This is perfect for us!"
This was the best thing that happened to them after who knows how long. They were actually close to doing a plan that will be successful, or will it?
Hearing the speeches of the Rocket Trio, Brock and the other two were dumbfounded, 'Just why did he have to talk so much!'
Mr. Swampy seemed to have come to his senses and quickly covered his mouth, "I'm so sorry. My wife often reminds me of this habit of mine. This is my personality, I can't hide my words! I swear it on the great Ray Ray!"
James has already started to take his action, "Cacnea, use your Pin Missile!"
However, Cacnea, who was very fond of his Trainer, James, gave him a big hug as soon as he came out. The spikes all over his body stung James's body, but he didn't try to break free from it.
Instead, he waited for it to hug him for a while, then let him broke away from by himself. Then Cacnea's Pin Missile was launched, destroying the very weak dam at once.
From then onwards, the large amounts of water poured into the swamp, and the water level rose at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Brock and the other three suddenly became anxious and quickly thought of ways to block the water, "This is very bad! Why isn't Ash here with us right now?"
Ash was in the swamp at the moment. He was very happy to leave the Rocket Trio to Brock and May to deal with, but he didn't expect them to not be able to hold them down because of someone telling them everything they needed to know.
But soon he noticed that a large amount of water was coming towards the swamp, "Why can't I ever get a break. I can't even send them to one of those maximum security prison because I need the points they give out, life is so hard." Ash murmured to himself.
"Dratini, Aron, I need your help!"
"Dratini, use Blizzard to build an ice wall to block the water flow! Aron, use Rock Tomb to help build the dam again!" All Ash has to do right now is to block the water from joining with the mainstream current and prevent it from flowing into the swamp tributary!
But even so, the water level in the swamp was still rising at a rapid pace.
"Everyone, com out and stop this!" Ash summoned all of his current Pokémon's at once.
"Corphish, you and Mudkip go to the water to help all the baby Mudkips to evacuate together from the area. Taillow, you go and search for any lone Mudkips. You must not miss any of them, we need them to be all alive!"
With his Dratini and his Aron making some resisting to the flood, the water here was not as strong as before. Mudkip and Corphish worked together to quickly bring all of the baby Mudkips here to a higher elevation hill.
However, just when Ash and his Pokémon's were breathing with a sigh of relief, Taillow suddenly began to hover in the sky.
Only then did Ash realize that a Mudkip baby had been washed into the mainstream water by some strong current from the other side and was about to be washed down the waterfall.
"Bad news, there's another lone one out there!"
A blue light flashed on Ash's body, and he rushed over there with a single stride. Mudkip was even more braver than him, jumping straight into the water, following the current as hard as he could to get to save the baby Mudkip, and holding it by biting it with his mouth!
"Very good, Mudkip, now hold on tightly!" Ash ran to them, with a pink light shining across his eyes, he used his Psychic to fish them out of the water safely.
All the Mudkip babies gathered together, and the adult Mudkip stood next to Ash. They turned to look at Brock and others coming from upstream, as well as Team Rockets robot.
"Ash, Team Rocket caught a lot of the bang Mudkip!" Max immediately found Ash for help.
"No problem…" Ash smiled with a look of resignation, "Pikachu, you haven't done anything yet. You know the drill."
Pikachu turned into a yellow flash and rushed over. With a single Iron Tail, he rescued all the baby Mudkips that were in the cage, and then sued his signature Thunderbolt to blow the Rocket Trio away.
"TEAM ROCKET IS BLASTING OFF AGAIN!"
"WOBBUFFFEEETT!"
The entrance dam has been solved by Brock and the others, and the flood passed away soon after that.
Ash looked at the adult Mudkip, took out one of his Poké Balls and raised it in front of him.
"We can be true partners if you decide to join me!"
Looking at Ash and his Poké Ball, Mudkip didn't hesitate much at all, he stretched out his paw and activated it.
