Chương 17: Secret of radiant silver

In that moment, a startling truth dawned upon Orion. It was a reality he had unwittingly forged for himself – he was the exception to the rule. He possessed affinities with all seven elements, a feat previously thought to be unattainable. Yet a lingering sense of incompleteness gnawed at him at that moment.

Orion didn't manifest all the elements for mere spectacle. He did it to confirm something because whenever he attempted to harness all the elements simultaneously, a strange sensation of lacking would wash over him, an immediate feeling as if he wasn't giving his all, just to vanish in the next instant.

In search of answers, Orion had scoured many books, yet no solutions emerged. Finally, he had discarded it as a mere sense of arrogance, the superiority complex that came with his affinity to all the elements. He thought himself to be greedy to want more.

Discarding all such thoughts, he focused on the book again. The ancient text revealed a crucial step in advancing to the silver core through elemental meditation.

Specific details on how mages had to consume two special elixirs for the process. The first elixir calms the wild mana within the body to some extent, preventing it from overwhelming a mage's heart immediately. The second elixir maximized a mage's elemental affinity for a short while, a vital aid throughout the whole process.

The book also listed a range of rare medicines that could serve this purpose, medicines that were rare but still attainable with a large sum of gold if one had the right connections.

Once again, the details had left Orion confused because he didn't have such a hurdle in his advancement. His journey to the silver core had been nothing like the elaborate processes described within these pages. As he had advanced into the silver core immediately after purifying his mana core to a certain threshold.

He only had to complete the first step. He was indeed able to use magic outside his body from the beginning, but he was still expecting to undergo the process of affinity enhancement to reach the silver core stage. But he didn't have to. The only change he felt was increased in his mana capacity and the range of mana sense.

He had guessed that his affinity with all the elements was the reason. But in the end, he didn't find any proof to support his theory. So he could only give up. In the past eight months, he had trained with all his elements. The result was fire, water, and earth being his best, with thunder, wind, and light considered average, and sound magic being the weakest.

Orion contemplated his own progress for a brief moment, the mysteries of his unique circumstances never far from his thoughts. But he turned his focus back to the text before him, turning the pages until he finally reached the very topic he had intended to read today.

The heading proclaimed, "The Path to Ascend into the Radiant Silver Mana Core."

Without lingering on the title, Orion swiftly moved into the text within. "The silver mana core grants the pinnacle of mana storage attainable for a mage with normal meditation. Beyond this stage, the further expansion of the mana core by natural means is impossible," the text revealed, presenting a crystal-clear limitation of humans.

"So to transcend into the realm of the radiant Silver Core, a mage must further fortify their mana core by consuming mana from other sources instead," the ancient words explained, illuminating the path forward.

The text offered two distinct avenues for this endeavor. The first was to seek locations filled with denser mana in the surroundings, like the mystical mines of mana crystals or the lairs of nightmarish creatures. These otherworldly environments held the promise of accelerated growth.

The second path was far more perilous, involving the use of the hearts of mana beasts.

Mana Beasts operated on a different way of magic than humans, relying directly on their formidable mana heart, unlike the conventional mana core of humans. These mana hearts contain the dense cluster of mana for a long time, even after the death of the beast, which provides an opportunity for human mages to advance further.

However, this path came at a grave cost – it demanded a significant toll on the mage's own heart, resulting in excruciating pain and torment. The quality of the mana heart depended on the strength of the slain beast. The more formidable the creature, the more potent its mana heart, and the swifter progress it will provide.

But that too came with the risk. Using the heart of a stronger beast can push the mage's limits to the brink, potentially ending in complete heart failure.

"So know your limits and choose it wisely," the book quoted.

Orion soaked his mind in this newfound knowledge, his path ahead illuminated by the intricate wisdom held within these aged pages, now both his guide and his challenge.

Orion turned a few more pages to read further, but they were completely blank. The book showed details of only one stage higher than Orion's own growth. So the secret of the white core will be revealed only after his advancement to radiant silver.

After confirming he didn't miss anything, he closed the book, putting it back into the red runes of his arm. He slowly stood up from his chair and announced,

"Let's begin, then."
