"Horns!!!"
I was quite surprised, because one of the children suddenly shouted that.
Oh, right. I didn't wear my mask.
"Big sis is pretty!!"
Luca commented, which surprised me even further.
How is it that they are not shocked? How can they still be joking around, even after all of that?
I turned to Luca slightly surprised, and I chuckled a little.
"I-I am…?"
"You are pretty, sis! But I am still prettier when I'm older."
One of the girls said proudly, which made the other children comment on her words. Most of them are demeaning her, which made her super angry.
As the children quarrel by themselves, Miss Rina approached me from the side. The smile on her face says it all.
But… it still hurts just seeing it.
"I'm sorry… for putting all of you in--"
GREBB!!!!
All of a sudden, Miss Rina rushed forward and hugged me. She did not wait for me to finish, and immediately just silenced me with a hug.
"Please!! Don't say such things… We are more than happy if you are okay."
She said while holding back her tears, surprising me heavily. I turned my gaze to the children that were watching, and noticed that every single one of them was grinning at us.
None of them… are resenting me.
Knowing how stupid I am for worrying, I felt funny.
So, I laughed a little.
After that, I talked with Miss Rina. I told her that I can't continue to be around them for too long, so I will have to leave them. But, I will not be leaving them unguarded.
I will talk to the adventurers regarding this, and will try to convince them to protect the orphanage.
After it turned dark, I bade farewell to them.
It will not be the last time we are seeing each other, but it will be the last one for a while. After talking with the adventurers, we are definitely booking it out of this town and looking for another.
We have been sniffed for far too close. This morning, the rank three hero came here. Afternoon, Rake's grandpa came. And soon, the deaths of those knights that Rake killed will reach the ears of many important people.
We will become the most hunted people in the kingdom.
We have no choice but to keep moving.
As we walked towards the adventurers guild at the center of the town, neither Rake nor I said anything. Maybe because Rake was still too shocked by the realization to say anything, or maybe because he was feeling ashamed after being consoled by me after all that.
Or it could also be because I didn't say a thing. So, I went ahead and tried to test the theory.
"Ah, right. What happened to Roy?"
My mind tried looking for anything to say to him, and remembered a certain boy with a wound on his head. I didn't know where he went since Rake stopped the boy from following me, so I asked that.
"… He's safe."
"I see."
Looks like it was him being silent, then.
After the long walk, we arrived at the adventurers guild. At first, I was shocked by the fact that there is no more front door, but I was even more shocked by the amount of sharp weapons being pointed towards us.
We haven't even entered the building, and there are already ten different adventurers pointing their blades and axes at us.
"You have some nerves coming back here after all that."
One of the muscular adventurers in front of us said angrily, all while cracking his fingers. He was the only one not holding a weapon, and as for the reason why he was this angry, I had no clue.
I looked around, and everyone had the same expression.
Anger, worry, and the eagerness to fight.
They really think of us as an enemy.
It was then I remembered a certain fact from this morning. Rake left to the adventurers guild to confront them about something.
The appearance of Jacob and the knights in our haunted house. Rake thought the one who snitched them were the adventurers, because logically, they were the only people who could follow behind us silently.
But, the one who snitched were the very ones who told us about the location of the haunted house. It was Luca.
Meaning…
Rake had a… big misunderstanding.
"What the hell did you do?"
I whispered to Rake who is on my left, and the guy turned his gaze away from me. Judging from the fact that there is no more front door, I can tell that he definitely crashed through it.
I peeked inside, and found quite a bit of destruction on both the floor and the tables. Meaning that there must've been someone causing problems inside the adventurers guild lobby.
I turned my gaze to Rake, and the guy is still not looking at me.
"... Idiot."
I mumbled and let out a sigh, while Rake simply kept his ashamed glare away. I then turned my gaze to the people around me and lifted my hand.
"We are not here to fight. We apologize for the things that we have done, and we will try to compensate for it."
"You really think we would accept anything you guys give?"
"… The issue that we are dealing with involves other people too. Innocent ones. So please, this matter is more urgent."
I said to them, pleading for them to listen even just for a little bit.
The muscular guy in the front is still unconvinced, but a shout was heard from the inside.
"Let them in!"
It was from a female. If I am not wrong, that belonged to the receptionist lady.
Hearing that shout, all the adventurers began to lower their weapons one by one. The big muscular guy in the front snorted before finally opening the path for us to enter. We walked past him silently, and entered the guild lobby.
As I expected… It was a full wreck. The floor was destroyed here and there. A lot of the tables are also destroyed, leaving a couple that seemed untouched. The wall that is the receptionist desk also took a little hit, but not enough to collapse the entire wall.
Whoever caused havoc… is definitely strong.
But stupid at the same time.
Awaiting us in front of the receptionist desk is a man in a wheelchair. His entire body had bandages all over, but the most are located on his leg. It was fully bandaged.
The angry and bandaged-all-over guild master is staring at us with his sharp eyes. Some of the wounds in his face have not fully healed yet, showing a slight hint of red from behind the bandage.
"You sure have some balls coming back here… after what you did."
He said right after we arrived in the middle of the room.
I thought I was going to be the one speaking, but turns out Rake replied to that a few seconds later.
"… It was a misunderstanding--"
"Of fucking course it is. We told you, didn't we? That we wouldn't use the information about you however we wanted. And yet, you didn't believe us."
"… I would like to compensate."
"Heh!! And you think simply money is enough to bring us to forgive you."
The guild master chuckled angrily. Looks like they are beyond pissed at Rake, that no amount of money is enough to cover it.
"The fact that you even think of paying us to forgive you simply proves how simple minded you are, hero. You think by bribing us, we would just forget what happened?
'Oh! We got paid! How nice of you! Let's all forget that we were all beaten up by you only Ten Hours ago.'
Yeah, sure. We can definitely forgive you for money. Of course."
The guild master said angrily once more, and it is kind of funny hearing him lashing out at Rake like that. Sometimes it entertains me seeing someone lashing out to another person who is regretting their actions. It's just funny seeing that person being yelled at.
But, the guild master is not done talking.
"We told you that we would never sell our customer's information. The spy that you threatened to stay away has fully stayed away from you. And yet, you still did not trust us even after doing all of that.
You came to us and caused havoc. Just because you had a tiny little hunch that says we could betray you, you came and trash everything.
Don't you get it? You are. An idiotic. Psycho.
So, tell me. How is it that you will be able to convince me to listen to you, after all that you have done?"
The guild master asked, and Rake does not know how to answer. His brilliant head is capable of thinking many ways and many strategies to win a war. But for once, there is only a blank.
He can't think of anything. He is out of options.
"Need my help?"
I suddenly said to him, and he turned his gaze at me.
I couldn't really see what his expression is like behind that sick skeleton mask, but I can tell he is really troubled. If he can't think of an answer himself, then his only choice is to rely on me.
"… Yes."
"You owe me that magic staff."
"… N-No, wait, that's too expensive--"
"Really?"
"…"
Rake immediately went silent after that, and I grinned. Looks like I'll be getting a magic staff after this.
I took a deep breath and let it out. And I lifted my hand to lift the hood.
"My name is Elicia. Elicia Velborn..."
I took my mask off, revealing my appearance.
Everyone in the room quickly noticed the sharp ears and two horns on my forehead, and immediately turned to shock. Nobody knows that we are the duo of ethelen and hero except for the guild master, so certainly everyone was very shocked seeing me.
"The princess of the Velborn kingdom, the only surviving ethelen…"
I pulled my hair out from the robe, causing it to flail around in the air. Then, I stared dead straight towards the guild master, who was watching me with a grin.
After all, I also grinned.
"… And I have an offer to make."
