There were traps on the floor!
Sebastian tried to move, but the magical restraints firmly held him in place. A wave of adrenaline shot through his body and his head cleared. He knew he had to break free before the wizards could finish him off or capture him, so he focused all his energy on breaking the chains. Nothing happened after trying a wandless counter-curse, so he quickly created a high-temperature heat ray, based on the flaming barrier with his staff, while upholding a barrier in front of him.
The heat ray smoothly cut through parts of the chains, and with a silent roar, Sebastian shattered the chains and sent the shards flying in all directions. Seizing the current opportunity, he launched all the shards at the Battle Mage with a velocity nearly inconceivable to the normal eye. The Battle Mage saved himself with a transfigured wall, diverting the trajectory of the shards, which instead impacted the bodies of two other wizards, instantly killing them. They continued to clash in a whirlwind of spells and curses, sparks and deflected spells flying around the room. From the corner of the room, Sebastian saw a curse flying in his direction. Sensing a chance, Sebastian fell back while continuing his onslaught, creating a diversion and amplification shield, sending the incoming curse homing in on the battle mage, destroying the flow of the fight and leaving Sebastian in a position of superiority.
With a final quick chant, Sebastian unleashed a drilling curse, sending the Battle Mage flying across the room with a deafening crash, while his chest got shredded to bits and pieces. As the dust settled, Sebastian stood victorious, his chest heaving with exertion, which he quickly regretted.
Sebastian barely had time to catch his breath before the two remaining wizards leapt onto him. They were not as skilled as the Battle Mage, but together they were just as deadly. One wizard, tall and lanky, conjured a swirling vortex of fire, while the other, stocky and muscular, unleashed a barrage of piercing hexes.
Sebastian felt the heat of the flames on his face, as the vortex hurtled toward him. With a swift motion of his hand, he conjured a powerful Aqua Eructo, sending a torrent of water to counter the flames. With a sizzle, steam began filling the room as fire and water met, providing temporary cover from the hexes flying his way. Suddenly, the stocky wizard broke through the steam with a jump, still sending hexes in his direction. One hex cut Sebastian's shoulder, sending a rush of pain throughout his body. Gritting his teeth, Sebastian returned a Confringo, but the wizard deflected it with a well-timed shield.
Meanwhile, the lanky wizard had circled him, attempting to flank Sebastian. Sensing the danger last second, Sebastian spun around and cast a few powerful curses, freezing the wizard in his tracks. But before he could use this situation, the stocky wizard sent a Blasting Curse his way. What a dumb brute! The explosion sent Sebastian crashing into a wall, his vision blurred and his breath was knocked out of him, as pain once again surged through his body. He struggled to stand, but the two wizards advanced, swinging their wands and chanting incantations. Driven by desperation, he cast a version of Protego, erecting a shimmering barrier around himself just as another curse slammed into it.
The shield held, but it looked like it wouldn't last long against their attacks. He needed a plan and fast. His mind raced, and then he remembered the enchanted maps and devices scattered around the room. Using a quick non-verbal spell, Sebastian sent several of the enchanted objects hurtling toward his attackers.
The room erupted in chaos. Maps fluttered like crazy and angry birds, and the communication devices buzzed and sparked, wires flying through the air. Using this opportunity, Sebastian cast a silent Incarcerous and sent tens of ropes to bind the lanky wizard and strangle him to death.
With one enemy neutralized, Sebastian focused on the stocky wizard. They exchanged a series of rapid-fire spells, each one more powerful than the last. But the stocky wizard's hexes were brutal, and Sebastian's defences were getting weaker. Sebastian was hit with another curse and dropped to one knee, panting and bleeding. The stocky wizard smiled like a crazy bitch, a triumphant sneer on his face, "This is the end for you!", he taunted, raising his wand for a final killing blow.
But Sebastian wasn't finished yet. Summoning his last strength, he cast "Fulminis Frenzy!" and lightning erupted from his wand, striking the stocky wizard and sending him crying and convulsing to the floor until he died.
Exhausted and battered, Sebastian fell to the floor. The battle had pushed him to his limits, and he knew he had narrowly escaped death. As a last effort, he took a few potions and alchemical devices out of his backpack, quickly sipping the potions and installing the devices on his body. Slowly, he felt his strength return.

Fully rejuvenated, Sebastian moved silently through the base, his footsteps once again muffled by another quick spell. The corridors were eerily quiet, a stark contrast to the recent fight. The only sounds were the faint summing of magical machinery in the adjacent rooms, housing patients, and the distant drip of water echoing through the halls. He approached the commander's quarters, or at least where he thought it to be, hoping the upcoming fight would not give him the last push over the limits of his body.
The door to the commander's bedroom was heavily fortified, warded, and enchanted. Sebastian placed his staff on the cold metal surface and whispered a few practised incantations. The locks clicked open one by one, and the enchantments dissipated under his continuous casting. With a final, gentle push, the door swung open silently.
Inside, the room was lavishly decorated, completely different from the dreary and sad nature of the rest of the base. Rich tapestries hung on the walls, and a massive king-sized bed was at the centre of the room, with the commander lying within. He seemed oblivious to the chaos that had erupted just outside his door, which was somewhat unbelievable until Sebastian was the wards soundproofing the room. As he saw the blood, and pieces of nasty equipment used for torture and bondage next to the bed, Sebastian knew the reason for the excessive wards.
Sebastian moved slowly and silently, sliding towards the side of the bed, his eyes fixed on the commander's peaceful, sleeping face. For just a moment, a flicker of hesitation passed through him, but the things inside the room and the knowledge that he was the reason for his father and his mother's death steeled his resolve.
With a swift, practised movement, Sebastian drew the tactical combat knife from his robe. The blade was enchanted to silence even the smallest of sounds while killing without causing large pain, something he regretted right now. He leaned over the commander, his movements precise and controlled, as he suppressed his anger. As he brought the knife closer, he whispered a final spell, to ensure that the commander would not disturb the current calm in his final moments.
The knife slid smoothly into the commander's chest, piercing his heart in one motion. The man's eyes flew open in shock and pain. He opened his lips, but no sounds came out, his eyes darting around wildly, but it was over before he could fully comprehend what was happening. Sebastian withdrew the knife, wiping it clean on the bed's luxurious bedsheet. The commander's eyes glazed, a dead look in his eyes, as his body fell limp back into the pillows.
Sebastian stood there for a moment. He had achieved what he wanted to do, but the satisfaction was tainted by the realization of what he had become in the process. Shaking off the thought with a pinch to his wrist, he turned and left the room as silently as he had entered, the door clicking shut behind him. It was good how he was. His current him would bring him to the top of the world.

As he made his way out of the base and to a few preplanned locations, two wizards came running inside and Sebastian swiftly hid himself in a nearby room, gripping his staff tight. After a few moments, the two rushed by without a care for their surroundings and with a quick flick of his hand, Sebastian sent a fiery sword into one wizard's back, killing him while he cried out in pain. As he shot out the second spell, the other wizards threw himself forward, while casting a shield behind himself, deflecting Sebastian's attacks.
As the charred corpse of the first wizard fell to the floor, the second wizard, fired a chain of rapid curses. Sebastian deflected most of them with a silent Protego but still felt the sting of a Stinging Hex on his shoulder. He still wasn't back to full health and capability. Sebastian retaliated with a wandless Expulso, the spell hitting the wizard's shield squarely and the explosion sending him crashing into the wall. The impact was fatal, and the wizard's neck snapped with a sickening crunch, which made Sebastian smile. This was his first wandless Expulso and the increase in strength was apparent, as it was one of the spells he had the most knowledge about. The fights had pushed him further on the path to power!
