Chương 62: Chapter 62: Lizard's Research
Maverick intended to take advantage of the Lizard's severe injury to eliminate the monster and clear the trouble.
However, when he saw the Lizard's current condition, waves of shock surged in his heart.
He had just torn off the Lizard's arm moments ago, yet now a portion of it had already regrown on the creature's shoulder.
"What kind of regeneration is this! Even if lizards can regenerate limbs, they can't do it this quickly!"
Maverick felt that his previous knowledge and life experiences were being seriously challenged.
Seeing Maverick charging at him again, the Lizard Man's eyes revealed a flicker of fear and panic.
While the left arm had stopped regenerating, the right arm began to regrow at an accelerated pace, quickly forming the shape of an arm.
Although the right arm looked thin and small, it had regained basic grasping functionality.
Watching the rapid regeneration of the Lizard's right arm, Maverick felt a sense of unease.
Meanwhile, Lizard reached into his coat pocket with his newly regrown right hand and pulled out a small glass vial.
The vial contained a bright green liquid that glowed beautifully in the dim underground space.
Bang!
Without any hesitation, the Lizard threw the glass vial between himself and Maverick. The green liquid spilled out of the shattered vial and began to react with the air.
Instantly, a green mist rose and started to spread outward.
Maverick stopped just in time, avoiding the unknown green mist.
He paused, adjusted his breathing, and then held his breath as he swiftly passed through the mist.
Despite his quick reaction, the Lizard had already used the brief moment to vanish without a trace.
"Damn it!"
Maverick looked around but couldn't find any sign of the Lizard. It was clear the creature knew the underground space very well, escaping swiftly and stealthily, even beyond Venom's ability to sense him.
"This Lizard is quite interesting. Is he more animal or human? I sense a strong wildness in him, but it's mixed with human intelligence."
Having seen the Lizard up close, Venom's curiosity grew even stronger.
By now, the green mist had gradually dispersed into the air, indicating that it doesn't last very long.
While picking up the Lizard's severed limb, Maverick replied to Venom, "I'm just as curious as you are. How did this monster come to be? He must have been a normal human before. Look at his movements, his behavior, and the clothes he's wearing."
"That smashed-up laboratory likely belonged to him. It's hard to imagine this Lizard conducting experiments with test tubes."
Speaking of the laboratory, Maverick and Venom returned to it to gather more clues. Although it had been heavily damaged by rocks, with many instruments and pieces of equipment destroyed, some paper-based experimental records and reports remained.
"Research on combining lizard genes with mice: Report No. 1 - Failure. Report No. 153 - Success."
"Research on combining lizard genes with humans."
These few experimental data sheets and reports already explained what the Lizard was and why he existed.
Although the papers didn't detail the results of combining lizard and human genes, Maverick knew the experiment had failed; otherwise, the creature they just encountered wouldn't have been born.
Looking at these documents, Venom couldn't help but exclaim, "Humans are terrifying. They conduct such monstrous experiments without hesitation."
"Who wouldn't agree?" Maverick shook his head in response.
While they were talking, Maverick suddenly shot a web in a specific direction.
Whoosh!
A figure that had just appeared quickly rolled to the side, dodging the web.
"Hey! Don't get excited, it's me, Spider-Man," Peter said as he stood up, addressing Maverick.
Peter had noticed the light from this area and had sneaked over to see what was happening, but as soon as he showed his face, Maverick had detected him.
"What are you doing here?" Maverick asked curiously, lowering his hand when he saw it was Peter.
Peter pulled out a photo and explained, "There's been a rumor in New York City recently about a Lizard. I came to look for clues."
"This photo was taken on my way here. It's a huge footprint, so the rumor might be true. There might really be a big lizard in this underground space."
Maverick took the photo and examined it. The picture clearly showed a giant footprint.
Peter elaborated, "I studied this footprint for a while and found some clues. The heel is noticeably deeper than the front, indicating that this big lizard is either very heavy or walks upright, which is quite perplexing."
Maverick nodded in agreement. "You're right. There's definitely a Lizard down here, and he does walk on two legs. This footprint belongs to him."
"We just had a fight with him before you arrived, but unfortunately, he managed to escape."
Peter was momentarily stunned. He had been trying to confirm if the Lizard was real, and now he learned that Venom had already fought him.
"I got delayed by that footprint on my way here. If I'd arrived earlier, we might have captured him," Peter said, shaking his head in regret.
Afterwards, he looked around the ruined laboratory and asked Maverick, "So, what is this place? It looks like a lab."
Maverick handed him the reports and said, "This is indeed a lab. It's the Lizard's lab. He was conducting experiments here on combining lizard genes with other organisms."
"What?!" Peter was shocked and confused as he looked at the reports in his hand.
'This is the same research Dr. Connors was working on when I was helping him.' Peter thought, bewildered.
He couldn't understand why Dr. Connors' research data would be in the Lizard's lab. Could the Lizard have stolen Dr. Connors' experimental data?
Peter's mind was racing, and he decided he needed to go to the school and talk to Dr. Connors to figure out what was going on.
While Peter was lost in thought, Maverick continued to examine the lab.
Seeing the lab and the experimental data, Maverick couldn't help but think of Dr. Connors, who was an expert in genetics and reptiles.
