After leaving the hidden tree hollow, Bounsweet continued toward Rex Farm.
Despite being very scared, Bounsweet suppressed its fear, determined to save Teddiursa, and ran forward with its short legs.
In its urgency, Bounsweet tried to move as quickly as possible, but the rugged forest paths often caused it to trip and roll forward. Ignoring the pain from falling, it struggled to its feet and pressed on, driven by the singular belief to keep moving forward.
After covering a fair distance without incident, Bounsweet was finally spotted by a group of Rattata.
As fellow bottom-tier creatures in the food chain, Rattata often relied on their numbers for hunting, and their diet was diverse. Bounsweet, unfortunately, was on their menu. Hungry, the Rattata wasted no time attacking Bounsweet, who, in its weakened state, could only let out a desperate cry as it faced what it thought would be its end.
In its mind, Bounsweet thought of Teddiursa and regretted its own weakness. It always relied on Teddiursa's protection and felt helpless now that Teddiursa needed help. Unbeknownst to Bounsweet, its cry for help had attracted the attention of Combusken, who was nearby and curious.
Just as the three Rattata were about to pounce, Combusken leaped in front of Bounsweet and used Slash to send the Rattata flying.
Combusken, observing from the tree branch earlier, had recognized Bounsweet as a friend from its Torchic days. Seeing its friend being bullied, Combusken couldn't just stand by.
The Rattata, recognizing Combusken's strength, fled immediately. For them, the powerful Pokémon was beyond their ability to fight.
Bounsweet, eyes closed and awaiting the end, was surprised by the delay and opened its eyes for one last look at the colorful world. It saw a tall figure with flame-like head feathers and recognized Combusken.
Although Combusken's appearance had changed significantly after evolution, Pokémon identify each other by their aura. Confirming the big bird was indeed its old friend Torchic, Bounsweet's eyes filled with tears of joy.
Ignoring its injuries and the joy of their reunion, Bounsweet quickly explained Teddiursa's critical condition to Combusken, hoping for its help.
Hearing about Teddiursa's grave injuries, Combusken didn't hesitate. It picked up Bounsweet and ran toward the tree hollow.
Thankfully, they weren't far from the hollow, and Combusken's speed quickly brought them to where Teddiursa lay.
However, they found Exeggcute in a fight with an Ariados. Or rather, Ariados was toying with Exeggcute, using its forelegs to bat it around without using any moves.
Exeggcute, showing unexpected bravery, repeatedly charged at Ariados only to be knocked back each time.
Ariados, not particularly hungry, decided to play with Exeggcute, relishing the free meal. It didn't think the small Pokémon could harm it.
This overconfidence was its downfall. Combusken, desperate, unleashed a Flamethrower without holding back, engulfing Ariados in flames. The spider Pokémon was left charred and defeated, incapable of further combat.
While Combusken spared it, such severe injuries in the wild meant Ariados's life was effectively over.
Reaching the hollow, Combusken found Teddiursa's life hanging by a thread. It knew only its Trainer could heal such wounds, even more than Victreebel's Grass Terrain move could.
Combusken faced a dilemma: if it took Teddiursa back, it would have to leave the injured Bounsweet and Exeggcute in the forest, where they might fall prey to other Pokémon.
Sensing Combusken's worry, Bounsweet and Exeggcute urged it to take Teddiursa to safety, promising to stay put in the hollow.
At that moment, Carbink appeared, reminding Combusken it wasn't alone. Overjoyed, Combusken entrusted Bounsweet and Exeggcute to Carbink's care, picked up Teddiursa, and ran toward the farm.
Its frantic movements alerted many forest predators, but recognizing Combusken, they retreated, having previously suffered its wrath.
Meanwhile, Rex, not idle, was tending to the terrace garden with Yuli. To speed up the growth of the Gracidea flowers, he had Victreebel frequently use Grass Terrain. The flowers' growth accelerated, but weeds also thrived, necessitating constant weeding.
Seeing Combusken rushing towards him, Rex paused his work, anticipating an urgent matter. As Combusken neared, Rex noticed Teddiursa in its arms, barely alive. Recognizing its critical state, Rex understood Combusken's plea for help.
Without hesitation, Rex placed his hand on Teddiursa and channeled life energy into it. The wounds began to heal, and Teddiursa's life force strengthened. Slowly, Teddiursa regained consciousness.
