Chương 58: 58. Red Dragon
It's finally time to raid the 1st S-Rank Gate in history. All the Hunters have received their equipment like armor and weapons. The Federal Hunter Bureau distributed them yesterday and each one is of high quality.
The siblings also receive their equipment, obviously, and they feel strange because they never used armor or weapons for dungeon raids before. They usually just wear casual clothes when raiding as if they are going to the park.
Dewi receives a full-body armor that's mostly made of metal. There are still parts made out of cloths and leather to avoid disturbing her mobility though. Her weapons are rather big and flashy gauntlets and shoes.
Indra receives something like a priest robe with white and gold color, quite typical in fantasy stories. He gets a wooden staff that has a dark blue crystal orb attached to it as his weapon. He doesn't like his current appearance, but he can't really complain about it.
"Sis, just remove them if it's getting too uncomfortable later."
"Sure. I don't know how they feel when I transform, but they feel nice for now."
After a short briefing, the S-Rank Hunters finally enter the dungeon. Well, they try to. However, no one can enter the Gate. It's blocking them as if it's a locked Red Gate.
"What the fuck happened?"
Everyone is confused because it was just like other Gate other than its immense magic power. So they thought they would be able to enter it normally.
Indra curses in his heart. 'Fuck! I should've tried to check the dungeon using my clones. That way I would've found out that we can't even enter this Gate.'
He is quite pissed, but he is also confused by this. Jin Woo never said that this Gate can't be entered.
'Was it the reason why Japan didn't even send their S-Rank hunters into Tokyo's S-Rank Gate? I thought it was because the Gate was located in the sky so they couldn't access it. Maybe it was also what happened in Jeju Island.'
Either that or things have started to change in this timeline. If it's so, then the Rulers must've done it with some purposes that he doesn't know.
Anyway, because of this problem, the raid is canceled. Now they can only wait for the Gate to break open and fight the monsters in this city.
The Government has evacuated the civilians from this city. But now they need to evacuate even the nearby cities because they never know how wide the area that will be affected by the battles between these S-Rank Hunters and the monsters.
Now the S-Rank Hunters can only wait until the 7th day when the Gate will break open. They prepare a new strategy because now they at least know their battleground.
Then after waiting for a few days, the time finally arrive. Only the Hunters are left in this city now. Everyone else has evacuated, even those from the military because they won't be of any help at all.
Cracks appearing on the massive Gate and the hunters are getting ready to fight. Then after a while, a red gigantic reptilian head comes out of the Gate. The hunters are stunned when they see this monster's head because it looks just like the most famous fantasy creature.
"D-DRAGON!"
They are stunned to see a Dragon comes out of the opened Gate. But Indra's shout wakes them up from their stupor.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING? HURRY UP AND ATTACK BEFORE IT FULLY COME OUT!"
Indra shouts while giving buffs to all Mages and Archers there. The Hunters come back to their senses and they quickly launch their attacks.
Mages and Archer are shooting their buffed attacks at the emerging Dragon. Their attacks land on the Red Dragon that hasn't fully come out of the Gate. Powerful impacts caused by their attacks happen on the Gate, covering it whole.
"D-did it work?"
Too bad for them, the Dragon is fine. It emerges from the smoke that covers the Gate, almost completely unscathed. Their attacks only enraged it and now it has finally come out of the Gate.
"ROAR!"
They suddenly hear an ear-shattering roar that can be heard in the whole State of California and Nevada. That's just how loud the Dragon's roar is and it doesn't just have a high volume.
"ARGH!"
Most of the S-Rank Hunters suddenly drop on their knees. They have terrified expressions on their faces that becomes very pale. Beads of sweat drench their whole bodies and some even peed themselves.
The expressions of ultimate despair are drawn on their faces. Only a few people managed to resist the fear that suddenly invaded their hearts. Those like Indra, Dewi, Thomas, Il Hwan, Reed, Zhigang, Shiddarth, and others with similar levels of power can resist the fear even if it's still affect them.
"This is.... A skill that causes a status effect, Fear."
Indra raises his new magic staff and casts a spell.
"Cure!"
Golden lights envelope everyone in the raid team. They suddenly stop trembling and come back to their senses. Cure can remove status effects like 'Fear' that has just affected them.
Everyone is surprised by how strong Indra's spell is for him to break a Dragon's spell that easily. Furthermore, he cast it on more than 100 S-Rank Hunters at the same time.
"T-this is-..... He dispels the Dragon's magic so easily, and he casts it on all of us."
The S-Ranks are in disbelief and even the Red Dragon is surprised by this. It can feel the hunters' magic powers, so it knows which ones are dangerous from their magic power, and Indra isn't included.
But upon closer look, the Dragon realizes that it can't feel Indra's magic power even though it has concentrated. It can't believe that a lower being like him can hide his magic power from a Dragon.
Indra is looking at the Red Dragon that hasn't been officially named yet. Now he knows why the raid in the original timeline failed. That roar's effect was too powerful and its defense is also very high level.
'Everyone who's considerably weaker than the Red Dragon is affected by that roar. Only a few people could withstand that. If I'm not here to remove that effect, then there's no doubt it will be easy for the Red Dragon to kill them while they are being affected by Fear.'
"THOMAS!"
Indra shouts at Thomas who only reacts slightly, doesn't dare to take off his eyes of the Dragon.
"What is it?"
"We can't fight with everyone. Those who were affected by the Dragon's Roar need to retreat. They will just be burdens. We can only fight it with those who could withstand that Roar."
"OI, OI, OI! ARE YOU SERIOUS WITH THAT? YOU WANT LESS THAN 10 PEOPLE TO FIGHT THAT THING?"
Even the arrogant Thomas Andre is not confident they can defeat that Dragon with only a few people.
"11 people. There's no other choice. The others will just get affected by the Dragon's Roar and can't do anything in that state. I will run out of mana if I need to keep dispelling that status effect. It's better if I use my mana to buff the few of us to the limits and debuff the enemy. I can handle supporting 10 of you myself."
Right when Indra finishes what he wants to say, the Red Dragon shoots a powerful fire breath. Thomas and the big Indian guy, Shiddarth Bachchan who is also a Tank like Thomas.
(A.n: Shiddarth's abilities are unknown or maybe I'm not aware of it. So I choose to make him a Tank like Thomas Andre.)
Both of them raise their shields and pour their magic power to their shields and bodies, ready to block that Dragon's Breath. Massive magic shields appear on their hands and the fire breath hits the double magic shields.
Indra quickly casts buff spells to increase their physical strength, defense, stamina, and magic power. They are stunned by the level of buffs that Indra gives them.
"T-this is...."
"Is this serious? These aren't buffs anymore, it's reawakening."
Their powers basically double because of the buffs from Indra. They've tried some other S-Rank Healers' buffs, but they aren't even close to Indra's buffs.
The Fire Breath hits their shields and can't destroy them. Instead, it splits into some parts and hit the city buildings. The split Fire Breath easily destroys buildings and their ranges are so far, almost reaching the city border.
Luckily, with Indra's buffs, the 2 Tanks manage to block the Fire Breath without getting pushed back and protect the other hunters. Meanwhile, the average S-Rank Hunters are rooted on their spots, unable to do anything.
"Fucking hell! They are scared shitless. A bunch of waste."
"Thomas, let's do as Indra said. Those people can't fight anyway. We'll only make the battle a lot more difficult if we fight alongside them."
Reed quickly tells Thomas after seeing how the average S-Rank Hunters react to that Fire Breath. While the 11 top S-Ranks prepared their abilities, those guys were just trembling with horrified expressions.
"Even if they want to fight, that Dragon's Roar will render them useless all the time. Only we who can resist that have the chance to defeat that Dragon."
The other top S-Ranks agree with that and finally Thomas makes a decision as the raid leader.
"Fine, let's do as you say."
