Chapter 77: Easily Mastering Flying Thunder God, Kakashi Looks Stupid
"Sasuke, you..." Kakashi looked at Sasuke's appearance and felt palpitations. Although the previous Sasuke was also very strong, it didn't affect him much. But the Sasuke in front of him now seemed extremely dangerous! Is this transformation due to the Mangekyō Sharingan? Shouldn't be. I just opened my Mangekyō, but I don't feel much has changed.
"Don't worry, Mr. Kakashi, I'm fine. In fact, I am in better shape than ever before!" Sasuke, feeling the surging power in his eyes, confidently stated. The power of the Mangekyō Sharingan is a complete qualitative change from the three-tomoe Sharingan. They are not even comparable.
"Mr. Kakashi, have you ever learned the Flying Thunder God Technique?" Sasuke couldn't wait to try his newly mastered technique. Can the insight of the left eye analyze spells? Can it analyze the Flying Thunder God Technique? It would be great if it could! Mastering it, not just for combat, but for protection, would give me a lot of confidence.
Kakashi didn't quite understand why he was being asked but replied, "I have learned it, or at least I tried." Though Minato explained it to him, he had failed to master it. After all, space-time ninjutsu isn't easy to master.
"If you want to learn the Flying Thunder God Technique from me, you may be disappointed. The memories associated with it in my mind have been erased," Kakashi shook his head and explained. Failure in learning the jutsu from the book of seals results in such consequences. Otherwise, you run the risk of the ninjutsu leaking.
Sasuke frowned and said reluctantly, "Is there any other way? Could the spell of the Flying Thunder God Technique still work?"
"That's true. My teacher gave me a Flying Thunder God Kunai," Kakashi mentioned as he rummaged through a cabinet and pulled out a special three-pronged kunai. It was a gift from Minato when he was promoted to Jōnin at the age of 12. "What do you want to do with this?" Kakashi questioned, offering the kunai to Sasuke.
"You don't intend to learn the Flying Thunder God Technique just from this, do you? It's merely marked with the Flying Thunder God pattern!"
"I want to give it a try." Sasuke's left eye with the Mangekyō Sharingan focused on the technique, and the hexagram pattern suddenly froze.
Buzz!
"Hiss..." Sasuke suddenly covered his left eye as a strong sour sensation hit him. His left eye's power was greatly drained in that moment, and a flood of information filled his mind. It was all about the Flying Thunder God Technique—space coordinates perception, creating Flying Thunder God spells, spatial movement using the spells' marks. While the information was complex, Sasuke grasped it all in an instant.
However, it wasn't quite enough. He just understood the theory, but to apply the Flying Thunder God Technique proficiently, he needed a lot of practice. After a moment of thought, Sasuke activated the right eye's technique to copy it.
"Hiss... What is with this Mangekyō?" Another burst of sourness, unbearable! Each use of the technique came with a significant drain on his power. But despite that, Sasuke could feel he had mastered the Flying Thunder God Technique.
Whoosh!
Sasuke threw the Flying Thunder God Kunai forward, and with a thought, his figure vanished, reappearing beside the kunai the next second.
Kakashi was puzzled. What just happened? Did Sasuke learn the Flying Thunder God Technique?
Namikaze Minato wondered if this was the second part of the Flying Thunder God. Senju Tobirama remarked on the absurdity of the technique, saying Sasuke even learned the second stage. Hatake Kakashi lamented not learning how to perceive spatial coordinates, despite having listened to Minato for a month. Shiranui Genma, having studied for over two years, could only assist in creating a Flying Thunder God formation.
The revelation made everyone feel sour. Who wouldn't desire to master space-time ninjutsu? Those with true mastery were rare in the ninja world's history. Seeing Sasuke in the parallel world mastering the technique so effortlessly certainly induced envy.
Uchiha Madara recognized the power of the left eye to understand principles, and the right eye's ability to bypass the practice process as incredibly useful. Orochimaru acknowledged that Sasuke's exceptional talent meant there might not be any ninjutsu in the world that could puzzle him.
"...No, what just happened? How did you suddenly learn it?" Kakashi was disconcerted and spoke somewhat incoherently.
"This is the ability of my Mangekyō's awakened technique, which can be used to learn ninjutsu," Sasuke explained. "Mr. Kakashi, you must have awakened a technique for each eye too, right?"
Kakashi fell silent for a moment, wondering if opening the Mangekyō would awaken any techniques. "There's none?" Sasuke asked, his brow furrowing slightly. After a pause, Sasuke stared at Kakashi intently, ready to investigate further.
"Hiss..." The pupil power is severely depleted again. Sasuke had just gained insight into Kakashi's abilities. "According to the information I've got, Mr. Kakashi, your left eye should contain a pupil technique known as Kamui. This technique leads to a distinct space, and by using it, one can absorb the target within the line of sight into that space. Furthermore, the Kamui technique can be used on oneself too, but the absorption speed is much slower," Sasuke explained carefully.
Kakashi's expression soured. 'This is my technique, isn't it? Why do I need someone else to explain it to me?'
Hatake Kakashi thought to himself, 'Is my Mangekyō a fake?' Uchiha Obito could make a guess about the situation. When Kakashi awakened his Mangekyō, it was due to Obito's influence. Thus, both individuals had the Kamui, but the effects were slightly different. Kakashi had to explore the powers of Mangekyō step by step as he did not awaken it on his own.
Senju Tobirama commented, "Isn't Uchiha Sasuke too careless with the Mangekyō technique? He'll likely lose his sight soon at this rate!"
Sasuke attempted to use his right eye's technique to copy Kamui but failed. "It seems Mangekyō's techniques are exclusive and can't be copied," he thought with slight disappointment.
"I can only roughly sense that this Mangekyō leads to another dimension," said Kakashi as he touched his eye sockets. He knew he needed to slowly master Kamui himself.
Kakashi sighed, "After awakening the Mangekyō, I feel a heavier burden on this Sharingan, and my future chakra might not suffice."
Sasuke frowned, "That shouldn't be right. Didn't your chakra increase after awakening the Mangekyō?"
Kakashi felt close to tears. 'Who said chakra increases with Mangekyō? The only thing that increased was my chakra consumption!'
"Why is Kakashi like this?" asked Namikaze Minato.
Senju Tobirama admitted, "I've never seen such a case. Based on my studies, those without Uchiha blood should not be able to advance even with a transplanted Sharingan." Kakashi's progress was a mystery to him, and it made sense that Kakashi's chakra did not increase since he lacked Uchiha blood.
"I need to become proficient with the Mangekyō Sharingan, including each eye's technique and something called Susanoo," Sasuke mused while touching his eyes.
Kakashi was speechless. 'Susanoo? What else can the Mangekyō do that I don't know about? Is my Mangekyō really fake?'
Suddenly, Sasuke spoke up, "Mr. Kakashi, I inadvertently stumbled upon information about Orochimaru and a Konoha collapse plan." Kakashi listened intently. Sasuke was now his partner in seeking revenge against Konoha's elite, so he felt free to share such details.
"What are you planning to do?" Kakashi inquired, wanting to hear Sasuke's thoughts.
"I plan to interrogate the Sand ninja for information, then formulate further plans... It's thanks to you I learned the memory-erasing technique, which is quite handy!" Sasuke believed the Sharingan's torture ability complemented the memory erasure well.
Kakashi thought, 'I taught you that technique in passing, and you've already put it to use?'
"There's another matter," Sasuke added, speaking of Orochimaru's proposed deal. "My issue is that I don't understand the curse mark Orochimaru wants to give me."
Kakashi was internally panicking. 'How many things has Sasuke kept secret? He's been led to mistrust Konoha's leaders and uncover the truth about the Uchiha massacre on his own. And now he's considering joining Orochimaru's plot and making a deal with him. Isn't he overwhelmed?'
After a deep sigh, Kakashi thoughtfully discouraged him, "I advise you against accepting that deal, as Orochimaru's offers are not easily handled. Moreover, regarding the curse mark, Orochimaru once had a disciple named Mitarashi Anko who received one from him. I wonder if it's the same kind he mentioned to you."
Sasuke, touching his left eye, pondered the situation. 'Perhaps I could learn more from Anko's curse mark. My left eye's technique might just help with that.'
