Chương 2: Roland

The ecology of the library is very miraculous. Avesta can survive here without needing to eat or drink. During his life, Avesta tried to interact with Angela for a few days. But progress is so small that most of the time he is still classified books.

"Avesta, follow me." Angela pushed open the Floor of Psychological door, called Avesta to the library living room in front of the door.

Below was filled with thin smoke, a man wearing a black suit walked out from inside. Avesta only needed to look at it and know who this man was - Roland.

Similar to the question Angela asked Avesta before, Angela asked Roland once.

"Fainted?" Angela watched as Roland lost all four limbs and fell to the ground. She pointed at Avesta and signaled Avesta to bring Roland in.

Avesta shrugged his shoulders, carried Roland into the library.

Angela treated Roland's limbs, muttering, "Why are there so many uninvited guests coming to the library?"

Avesta scratched his head, "Maybe this is destiny."

"Destiny?" Angela chuckled softly, "I don't believe in that either. My destiny is definitely in my hands. It is now, it will be the same later!"

Avesta nodded, following Angela's words to indicate agreement. After all, Angela is still a mechanical brat who is inexperienced about the world.

"Stand up!" Avesta kicked Roland's body.

"Ugh! My arm! My leg!" Roland immediately woke up with a start and was surprised to touch his already grown arms and legs. "Ah? Still?"

"Just like that, you can live jumping and walking around." Avesta held Roland up while smiling and said, "Plus, the Head Librarian has also improved your body, so it should be better than before." Having finished speaking, Avesta walked to Angela's side. "Head Librarian is still quite patient and generous."

Angela nodded in satisfaction. She really liked Avesta's sudden compliment to her.

"Patient... My ass, Am I really supposed to be thankful for this? I didn't expect there to be a hunting dog." Roland frowned, clearly his body was still a bit weak, suddenly he remembered something "And the, uhhh... Your warning isn't in effect anymore, right?"

"Of course." Angela nodded, "It's not the first time I've handled something like this. It just so happens that the Floor of General Works still lacks a Librarian. I hope you will like your new status."

"What? Huh? Do syndicates these days kidnap people this way too? Or, is this one of the Wings? I heard rumors that they abduct test subjects from here and there for singularity research." Roland said.

"Before it was, now it's not." Avesta replied.

Angela also nodded, "This is a library. I don't know the "Syndicates" you're talking about, but this place isn't a Wing at least."

"Doesn't really matter. Whatever the case, i'm trapped here and you'll exploit me, right." Roland sighed, it was clear that this was not the first time he was taken advantage of like this.

"Yes, i'm letting you live for two reasons: First, i need an analysis of how you could enter this uninvited place. Sending you back or ignoring you without knowing the reason could pose a significant threat to the library. Well, it's not like you can leave without my permission anymore." Angela said looking towards Avesta, Avesta was a bit surprised, Angela trusted him so easily.

"What an innocent robot." Avesta smiled thoughtfully and shook his head. Although Avesta still hadn't figured out how to live after that, Avesta knew he couldn't rest in the library all his life.

"Second, from now on, i will collect books about the city in search of the one absolute book. And i want you to help me with this process. Since you are a resident of the City, i expect you to be helpful in various ways." Angela continued speaking.

"From today on we are colleagues, Roland." Avesta bowed his head slightly and stretched out an arm.

"Ah, you're good, I'll take care of you a lot in the future. May I ask what your name is?" Roland gently held Avesta's hand.

"My name is Avesta, Librarian of the Floor of Psychological. In the future, if you have psychological books, you can send them to my floor. I came here by accident." Avesta said.

Roland looked at Avesta and sighed, whispering "I knew this would happen to me someday. People would disappear without a trace, only to be found as chunks of flesh much later. I used to laugh at those poor folks for being careless and unlucky, but now I see it has nothing to do with carelessness or anything, huh. Just happens without a moment's notice."

Avesta didn't say anything on the surface, but in his mind he was really admiring Roland's acting skills. Luckily, the person he tricked was Angela. If he acted in this city, he definitely wouldn't have fooled anyone.

"Don't be too concerned about your life. You're not allowed to die here unless i permit you to." Innocent Angela was even comforting Roland.

"Damn it, so this was a crazy laboratory sort of deal. Do you, like, shove random stuff like corn kernels and clockwork into people's stomachs and turn them into walking popcorn - spewing popcorn - machine - men or something. This has got to be the worst... i'd much rather die and be over with it all...."

"As expected of Roland, he talks a lot of nonsense." Avesta thought, looked towards Angela, Angela's face fell.

"If you spout such nonsense one more time, I'll gladly turn you into a human popcorn machine as you so wish." Angela said.

"Sorry, ma'am..." Roland raised his hands slightly above his head and said.

"Let me introduce myself properly." Angela sat behind the table, smiling, "My name is Angela. I'm the head librarian, director of this library, this person is my assistant to Avesta."

"Ange... la... That's a good name." Roland was a bit panicked, but quickly regained his composure: "So, what am I supposed to do?"

"Simply put, I'm in charge of sending the invitation, you're in charge of "Reception", Avesta is in charge of "Explanation"." Angela says "Since you have actual experience working as a Fixer, I am sure you will be able to give the various types of guests a much better reception than i could."

"I'm just a washed-up Grade 9 Fixer, though...?" Roland opened his hands and said.

"In short, you just have to deal with the guests in a physical manner. The guests who have overcome the ordeal will be considered worthy to earn their books. There is the possibility that you may die during the process of reception, but it's only temporary. You'll get back up when the library closes. No one here may rest without my permission." Angela was very satisfied with her abilities, and even felt arrogant when she spoke.

"Do you happen to have some weird fantasies about Fixers. Aren't you expecting too much from a grade 9? I'm not as talented as you seem to think, y'know." Roland said.

"That's none of my business. I have prepared a manual for you, so go ahead and figure things out of yourself, or ask Avesta, I want to continue the work." Having finished speaking, Angela clapped her hands, and Avesta and Roland appeared on the Floor of General Works.

"Next, let me explain your work to you." Avesta patiently explained to Roland what he needed to know and the library's operating logic.

"That seems like the library must be better than other syndicates. At least it allows you to choose."

Avesta smiled and looked at Roland without saying anything more, still thinking about something else. "Yes, the three library-specific options:

1, go to the library,

2, go to the library,

3, go to the library."
