A Bit of Talk with Tsugumi

A/N: Yeah, I'm not going to do a thorough rewrite.

In fact, compared to this Chapter, I wonder if my writing is only getting worse... You readers judge it.

"U-Um, I-I'm sorry to disturb you guys."

Ichinose put on an awkward face as she shot a doubtful look at my table, and made a motion as if she was about to leave the classroom.

"No..." I was understandably puzzled. "You're not disturbing at all."

"...Really?"

"Yeah, you can even join if you want."

"Eh?! T-T-That was immoral…!"

...Is she misunderstanding something here? What is it?

I instantly came up with a cheap conjecture. With that thought in mind, I flashed a guiltless grin at her.

"It's a completely natural act. I would have liked to see you do it together with Komi-san."

"Together—" she stopped midway, speechless.

I nearly laughed out loud.

Komi observed the scene in complete obliviousness.

I considered following it up with a clichéd Japanese RomCom misunderstanding, but realized that our relationship still wasn't deep enough for such a situation to be a pleasure to bear watching. I quickly lifted the cat on my lap into her line of sight. "Before that, did you hate cats, Ichinose-san? I won't force you to pet it if you do."

She pulled out into reality. "A cat...?"

"What are you thinking about?"

"I'm not thinking anything weird...!"

"I didn't say you were thinking that."

"—gh, whatever! I don't care anymore…!"

Ichinose walked to her seat briskly. She was evidently agitated.

I put on a dry look as I turned to Komi. "Anyway, let's be good friends from now on, Komi-san."

"..."

She didn't say anything, as expected. Somehow, she seemed surprised.

[Did no one try to befriend her before me?]

What a sad girl…

As I tried to lower the cat, "—?!" I groaned, releasing my grip from the cat instinctively. [—did this damn cat just scratch me...?!]

Yes, it did!

There was a clear imprint on my hand, as a proof.

Before I could do anything to the cat, though, it jumped off my hand and ran out the door.

[You damn cat—]

I wanted to teach it a stern lesson for its act, but since it would just be a waste of time and weird to look at, I quickly gave up.

"Yoshikawa-kun?!" Ichinose exclaimed, panicking.

Even though she was silent, Komi was as panicked as Ichinose.

I quickly smiled. "It's alright. I just need to cover it with a cloth or something and it'll be fine."

"B-But do you have any?"

"...Nope."

Someone tugged at my left robe.

"Oh, do you have one, Komi-san?" I turned to her.

She shook her head, pointing her finger at the door instead. [There was nothing there…]

"—ah," I understood after a moment. "You want me to go to the medical office?"

Komi nodded vigorously.

I thought about her offer. Indeed, there was a possibility of infection—or something like that—regardless of the triviality of the wound. I couldn't treat it as something trivial—even though I'm an Asian.

"Alright, I'll try to go check with the medical office," I agreed.

She was visibly relieved.

I'm still baffled on how I can even understand her nearly emotionless look, but I quickly shrug them off. [I'll just take it as a privilege as the main character.]

"Do you need me to take you there?" Ichinose inquired with concern.

I waved my hand. "Don't worry, I'm fine by myself."

I quickly stood up from my seat and went outside.

The classroom was on the second floor, and it was close to a staircase to the first floor. Right beside the ground stairs was the medical station. A one or two minute trip would be enough.

My classroom faced another classroom, which merged with another classroom and extended along the corridor. Right beside my class was the turn to the stairs, and opposite that turn— between the class across my class and the stairs— was a cafeteria.

For the record, I couldn't see the sky on that second floor. Also, at this early hour, I only saw a few students arrive.

"Y-Yoshikawa-kun?"

"Ah, Tsugumi and... Kirisaki."

From the direction of the stairs, the blonde Kirisaki and Tsugumi the bodyguard emerged.

"You're from yesterday."

Kirisaki had a frown on her face. That didn't necessarily mean she was angry. She seemed perplexed.

Tsugumi was more flustered than her upon seeing me. [Yesterday's incident really had that much effect on her.]

In any case, I offered them a greeting. "Good morning. You two came early, huh?"

"Yeah, only for a lame reason," Kirisaki responded, her tone fed up. "That Claude is just full of craps..."

"I don't understand what you're talking about, but I need to go to the medical station . So—"

As I was about to pass them, Tsugumi stopped me.

"Wait, Yoshikawa-kun!"

"What's the matter?"

Although Tsugumi's voice was loud, it only attracted the attention of a few people. She seemed very frantic.

"U-Um, thanks again for yesterday," she said, then added in a worried tone, her gaze flicking to the wound on her hand. "A-Are you okay? I don't think I saw that wound yesterday..."

"Is it a scratch?" Kirisaki also stared at my wound curiously.

"From a cat."

"Eh, there are cats around here?" She hurriedly looked around, seemingly excited. "Where?"

"I wonder myself," I muttered.

"I have bandages and medicine if you want me to treat it," Tsugumi took something from her bag, looking at me in concern.

If you were wondering about Tsugumi's worse wound, it was completely invisible as it was hidden by her shirt. However, one could still tell that the movement of that hand was stiff on closer inspection.

"Here?" I asked, looking around.

"We can sit near the cafeteria," she replied.

"If you think that's best…"

Given an opportunity like this, I no longer cared about the school's medical treatment.

Kirisaki looked at Tsugumi and me in turn several times, her expression dubious. She eventually shrugged her shoulders in resignation.

"I'll wait."

"Sorry to trouble you, Ojou..."

Kirisaki waved her hand casually. "That was unnecessary. You're my friend, remember?"

Upon hearing that, Tsugumi smiled softly. "Thank you..."

Anyway, the treatment was simple.

She smeared some sort of liquid from a small bottle onto my wound, then covered it with a bandage. I could see she was trying to be as gentle as possible with it, despite the fact that she didn't look like she was used to it.

"How did it go?"

She gave me a troubled look.

"It feels better," I replied, smiling slightly. "Thank you."

Tsugimi gave me a slightly embarrassed smile. "It was a small repayment for yesterday."

It was still not close to the first period lesson. With that in mind, I proposed something to them.

"Why don't we talk further here? I'm still wondering about your problem yesterday—on how you even got into that situation."

"That..."

I didn't specifically say in detail, but Tsugumi appeared hesitant.

"Why not? The first lesson time is still long, anyway," Kirisaki was the one to answer her, dispelling her doubts at once. Then, she turned towards me. Her expression was a little odd.

"Hm?" I raised my eyebrows slightly.

Kirisaki gave a small bow. "I haven't had a chance to say this yet, but thank you for helping this friend of mine out of trouble yesterday."

"Ahh, that... You're welcome. But I guess it's only a natural thing for someone to help."

Tsugumi frowned. "Without skills as great as you, no one would."

"I study martial arts," I admitted. "But in that case, I think you're more impressive than me, to take on three of them at once."

There was no one near us at the time, so I wasn't worried to be heard.

Tsugumi blushed. "That's not true... If you weren't around, something unspeakable would probably have fallen on me."

"...They're scums," I nodded in agreement.
