Chương 10: Consciousness

[Author's Note: To avoid confusion with the ranks of various items like pills, weapons, herbs, talismans, beasts, formations, etc., I will use the terms Rank 1, Rank 2, Rank 3, and so on to rank them. Rank 1 will correspond to the Qi Gathering realm, Rank 2 to the Foundation Establishment realm, and so on, while early, middle, and late grade will remain unchanged. Thank you for your understanding.]

Su Han sat cross-legged on the bed, staring at the glowing golden words in front of him.

"Can I only see these words?" he asked, feeling disappointed.

As if understanding his question, more golden words appeared, echoing in his mind: "Host, try to connect with the words."

Surprised, Su Han exclaimed, "You have consciousness?"

But there was no reply from the system. So, Su Han didn't dwell on it and immediately attempted to connect with the words. Suddenly, he found himself observing Wu Jin from a third-person perspective, the events unfolding rapidly. Despite the speed, Su Han felt no discomfort and could follow everything as easily as watching a movie.

"Hmm, so Wu Jin is going on a sect mission," Su Han remarked as he watched Wu Jin and his companions leaving the sect.

"Let's not waste any time and get started," said a person with a poker face, as he led the way into the cave followed by others.

After half an hour, the intense battle came to an end as the massive body of the beast collapsed onto the ground, sending clouds of dust into the air.

Seeing the beast fall, Wu Jin didn't waste any time. He swiftly retrieved five golden talismans from his space bag, infused them with Qi, and hurled them toward the other disciples.

"Huff... Huff... Finally killed it. Let's rest for a moment and replenish our Qi—" Before the words could be finished, they sensed danger approaching. Though they attempted to defend themselves, their Qi was depleted, and fatigue hindered their movements. Moreover, they hadn't been vigilant against their own comrades and were caught offguards.

With only little Qi left, they hastily tried to shield themselves, but they were too late. Five talismans detonated, unleashing powerful sword attacks that swept toward them, annihilating everything in their path.

When the attack ceased and the dust settled, three corpses lay before him, bearing deep wounds that exposed their bones, blood gushing out, their lives extinguished. Despite this, Wu Jin remained vigilant and launched another attack with his sword towards their heads.

The girl, who possessed cultivation at the Fifth Level Qi Gathering Realm, attempted to rise and defend herself. However, her injuries were severe, and she could only watch helplessly as her head was severed. As for the other two disciples, their heads were smashed like watermelons.

"Now, you bastards, tell me, how does it feel to be targeted?" Wu Jin said with disdain, his voice filled with contempt.

"I have to undertake missions every month, saving for years just to afford these five Rank 1 middle-grade talismans," he continued, his tone bitter. "I even had to shamelessly beg the senior sister for spirit stones before I could purchase them."

"But it's all worth it," Wu Jin remarked as he continued: "With that herb in the cave, I can recover my losses. And besides, you shouldn't be that poor, right?" With a stride, he moved forward and picked their space bags from their belts.

A space bag is a degraded version of a space ring. It offers less storage space and inferior spatial capabilities compared to space rings, but they're more affordable for low-level cultivators.

Wu Jin didn't bother to open the bags for inspection. Instead, he headed towards the cave, where he was greeted by a striking herb that resembled a flower emitting a soft blue twilight glow.

Without wasting a moment, Wu Jin began to carefully extract the herb. Once removed, he placed it into a jade box that he retrieved from his space bag, ensuring it would retain its medicinal properties. With the herb safely stored away, he put the box back to the space bag.

Without lingering any longer, Wu Jin exited the cave, erasing any evidence of his dispute with the disciples. Before departing from the scene, he also harvested valuable parts from the fallen beast that could fetch a good price when sold.

"Quite ruthless, but a wise decision. In this world, it's kill or be killed," Su Han remarked as he observed Wu Jin's actions. "The cultivation world is a dog-eat-dog world, where even sons turn against fathers for a mere herb."

"And judging from the Qi emitted by that herb, it seems to be of a high level. I wonder if it will be included in the rewards," Su Han pondered, lost in thought.

[Year 13: You returned to the sect and reported that the mission had failed as you were besieged by two more Middle Grade Qi Gathering Realm beasts, resulting in their death and leaving you severely injured.]

"Sigh! I had to severely injure myself to make it more convincing. Now, I have to recuperate for two years," Wu Jin said, his face drained of color.

"As for the sect conducting an investigation into the deaths of disciples, I'm not worried. They were just mere outer court disciples, so the sect won't care much. And even if they do investigate, I've already removed the evidence, and with the smell of blood, more beasts will come, making that place more difficult to discern." said Wu Jin as he continued.

"But it's all worth it," he added with a smile, thinking of the herb in his space bag. It was a Rank 1 High-grade Herb named Twilight Azure Lily, nearly infinitely close to the level of a Rank 2 low-grade herb.

"It would have taken another year for this herb to mature. Most likely, that beast was waiting for this herb to mature before consuming it, so it could breakthrough to a Rank 1 high-grade beast."

"As for me waiting for the herb to reach Rank 2 low grade, it was even more impossible. Once he left, with the scent of blood, more beasts would be attracted to this direction, and some beasts might enter this cave and eat that herb. Even if I stayed, my life would be in danger facing continuous attacks from so many beasts. So, it's better to just take it with me now."
