One moment, all four of them were talking about the upcoming ball and who they were going to ask to be their plus one.
Osayi had made a joke about how Xinghua's choice was obvious, laughing at the way his best friend got all red from the teasing.
Gaston just had to comment on how Ísar had gotten a lot of attention in the Academy lately. Osayi would have been the first to admit that the young lord should have dropped it as soon as Xinghua had gone blank faced.
It was one of those little signs Osayi had learned to pinpoint around the volatile little soldier.
He knew Xinghua better than he knew anyone, probably better than the boy knew himself. The perfect little prince was so controlled, so overly wound up, that even the softness he showed around his friends was evened out to precise measurements. Never too much, never too little.
