Chương 17: Abandoning Old Ties (1)

The next day...

Some of the survivors of the Misty Woods Tribe were waiting for new missions at the local mercenary guild.

Having completed all the missions available in Mystic Widowmakers, part of the group was considering leaving Lastwood, but no decision had yet been made.

So, as had been the case since the beginning of their stay in the city, some of them were in the guild building waiting for new missions while others continued their local routines.

Among those present were Moses, Atlas, Dax, and Anne Farr.

Moses had an ugly expression on his face, feeling that after all these days in the city, there was no point in staying there any longer.

But even if he disagreed with Seth's methods, he was there to carry on with the group leader's plans.

"Sigh... Another wasted day." He muttered to his fellow tribesmen.

Atlas knew Moses didn't like Seth and said. "Elder Snyder, Seth is doing what the old First Elder taught. We're all angry, but there's nothing we can do about it in the short term.

The old First Elder always said: those with the virtue of patience are invincible. But even the greatest of geniuses can easily become an ordinary person if they have a restless personality and can't act calmly and patiently."

"Huh!" Moses closed his eyes as he remembered similar words that the old First Elder had occasionally used to discipline the juniors.

He hadn't seen a problem with it before, but now that he didn't know if this man was so trustworthy, he didn't like the idea of having to be patient.

Dax and Anne looked at the strongest remaining elder of the tribe, who was currently second only to Seth in strength. Unfortunately, Moses didn't take well to the fact that Seth was so powerful and talented.

While the two of them pondered how this might cause problems for their group in the future, a group of bloodied people in bloodstained clothes suddenly entered the central area of the guild building, screaming.

"Help! We need help!" A woman in torn clothes and damaged armor shouted as she entered there with two men.

Everyone in the area stopped talking to look at the three newcomers, who looked like they had just escaped from a fight with a beast.

"What's the problem? What kind of help do you want?" One of the more experienced mercenaries was the first to offer his services, curious to know what this was all about.

One of the three dirty and wounded individuals said. "One of our companions was attacked by a Grandmaster Beast!"

Beasts were classified in the same way as martial warriors. Since most beasts only had physical strength related to their massive bodies, they were classified in the same way as warriors.

No one in the Mystic Widowmaker hall bothered to ask what kind of beast it was. Knowing that it had the strength of a Grandmaster was enough for them to understand the severity of those people's companion's injuries.

"Then we need a 3rd stage Elemental Healer!" Someone there said while the guild officials were already working to find mercenaries in their records that would fit this urgent situation.

One of the two injured men said. "We need warriors as well. We left three of our companions with our most wounded friend while we searched for help. Please help us eliminate these creatures!"

Dax's eyes narrowed when he heard that. "We'll take care of it." He said as he stood up.

They all had nothing better to do, so they made themselves available as soon as they heard the call.

"Anne, stay here in case something comes up. The three of us will handle it." Moses said, motioning for the three injured people to accompany him back to the location.

In less than a minute, a team was formed, and the three warriors, an alchemist, and an Elemental Healerset, set out to follow the three injured people seeking help.

...

Moments later, Dax, Atlas, and Moses came upon a broken-down wagon in the middle of a dirt road where wolf-like beasts were attacking the remains in the area.

The place was a mess. Several pieces of shrapnel from the human group's wagon were scattered about, with bloodstains, damaged weapons, and shields here and there.

In the midst of it all, a man lay unconscious in the middle of the area with his intestines hanging out of his abdomen. At the same time, his three companions fought to protect him.

"Sean!" The woman who had returned to this place after going to Lastwood to call for help shouted as she saw the unconscious man.

"He is still breathing. But if we don't help him, he'll die soon." Said one of the three people who had stayed behind to protect their friend while he and his allies standing by were badly injured.

They weren't so bad that they would die, but they would certainly carry scars and even permanent after-effects from that day if they didn't have access to the proper resources.

Seeing this, Moses muttered to his allies. "Dax, take care of these animals. I want to see what these people will do."

Dax stepped forward while Atlas stopped beside Moses to observe the situation. If it had been on their home island, someone in that unconscious man's situation would have died if Elder Clara or Seth hadn't been there to use their medical skills.

Since they both could sense that no one there had powers like those of Clara and Seth, they both felt that this man would die.

"This is a waste of time. This man is dead." Moses commented to Atlas, and the man agreed.

However, while Dax dealt with the wolves without difficulty, the two gradually changed their expressions amid the actions of the elemental healer and the alchemist who had come with them.

After a few touches to the wounded man's body, the elemental healer said a few words that Moses and Atlas didn't know before the alchemist boiled a batch of herbs he had with him in a small cauldron.

In less than two minutes, the alchemist gave the healer a gray potion, which the healer promptly made the wounded man drink.

The unconscious man's heart rate changed, and signs of recovery appeared all over his body, causing not only Moses but also Atlas and Dax to stare wide-eyed at the person.

They were convinced that the man would die. Still, when they saw the sudden improvement, they were all amazed at the methods of the elemental healer and the alchemist.

"This... How can that be? Such ordinary people can do that?" Atlas muttered.

The alchemist heard this and, already aware of the peculiarities of the people in this group of powerful men, commented with good humor. "This is nothing. We can do this to save lives, but also to transform people into their better selves, to give them more strength and much more".

Moses clenched his fists as he watched the man open his eyes and come to his senses.

The man seemed perfectly normal and not corrupted, as the old tribal elders had previously proclaimed.

Moses felt deceived and betrayed, and he didn't like it at all.

'Damn it! What have we lost by ignoring such a fantastic opportunity?' He asked himself, having left a wife and daughter on the island to die on the First Elder's orders.

Now that he saw the methods of the people of this continent, he couldn't help but wonder if he hadn't lost his loved ones because of something untrue, because he hadn't used methods to strengthen himself, and so on.
