Chương 32: 32. She's Finally Awake
Benjamin looked at the door and he saw Zachary Croft walking in with a bouquet of flowers in his hand. His facial expression was sad and he smiled faintly at Benjamin.
"How is she?" He asked Benjamin, while placing the flowers on the table.
"Still the same." Benjamin replied softly.
Zachary Croft sighed and sat on the other side of the bed. When received the news, he was in Northernlands. He had flown back immediately and had stayed in Azteria ever since. He wanted to wait until Alexandra is discharged from the hospital. However, she had been in coma for almost two weeks, with no signs of waking up. He's here today to see her before he leaves.
"I'm going back to Northernlands, Your Highness. Please keep me informed of her situation if there's any change." He politely informed the man before him. No matter what, he's still of royal blood and someone above his station.
Benjamin didn't say anything but merely nodded. After a while, Zachary Croft left the hospital.
Alexandra's comatose condition prolonged and after a detailed discussion with the doctors in charge of his daughter, Sir Dominic arranged for her to be transported back to the Zane manor. Every staff at the manor was in sombre mood and somewhat relieved that their young miss had finally came back home albeit her current health predicament.
Sir Dominic allowed Benjamin to stay at the manor for as long as he wants, as it was apparent this young man was reluctant to part with Alexandra. Benjamin was grateful for the invitation as he had initially wanted to ask Sir Dominic's permission to stay by Alexandra's side. After making the necessary arrangements with Butler Tim, Benjamin moved into the manor.
After two months of being in a coma, Alexandra started to show signs of waking up. When Benjamin was wiping her body with a warm towel as part of her daily cleaning routine, he noticed her fingers moved slightly. Overjoyed, he had informed Sir Dominic and the doctors were immediately called to check on her. The doctors were satisfied and confirmed that it was a good sign as it showed her body was reacting to external factors.
Benjamin began to stay by her side all the time, and only leave the room for meals. Sophia no longer cleaned or tend to her Mistress, as all her daily tasks were taken over by Benjamin himself. He wanted to be there when she wakes up.
One morning, Alexandra finally regained her consciousness. Benjamin, who was sleeping next to her, was awaken by a movement in her hand. He immediately sat up and looked intently at her, trying to see which part of her body had also moved besides her hand.
Alexandra's eyelids moved and after a few seconds, she slowly opened her eyes. She felt so sore all over as if she had undergone a strenuous military training. She was in her own room and somehow the designs had been changed. Did her father do this? But when? However, her senses became alert and she felt the presence of a person next to her. She slowly turned her head and saw a very, very good looking man sitting on her bed, looking at her intently. What was more interesting was the fact that this man was shirtless! His body looks amazing though. Wait, why was there a man in my bed? Haha, this must be a dream.
With that in mind, Alexandra brought up her hand, which was also so sore and felt like she hasn't use it in a while, and started slapping her face gently, trying to wake up from the dream. After a few slaps, she turned again and that handsome man was still there! Alexandra slowly reached over to try and touch this man. Before she could do that, the man grasped her hand and started kissing it.
Alarmed, Alexandra's mind gone blank as she couldn't understand what the hell was happening?? Her next action however, startled both the man and also herself.
"Aaaarrrrrgggghhhhh!!!!!!!!" She started screaming at the top of her lungs.
Seeing the man didn't move from her bed, but merely letting her hand go and staring foolishly at her, Alexandra scrambled out of the bed in order to get away from this stranger. However, since she had been asleep for so long, her legs gave way and she fell down on the floor.
"Alex!!" Benjamin finally found his voice. He didn't know why Alex was screaming and running away from him. But he instantly went to help her up, which obviously was not appreciated as the girl started struggling to get away from him.
"Who the hell are you??? What are you doing in my room?? And why are you half-naked?? Dadddyyyyyy!!!!!!!!" Alex began screaming and throwing questions at Benjamin.
Benjamin had a bad feeling in his heart after he saw Alexandra's violent reaction towards him. He quickly went to get his shirt and wore it. The door swung open and Sir Dominic Zane rushed in.
"Alex!!! You're awake?? Oh thank God!" Sir Dominic went over to hug his daughter tightly.
"What? Yes, I just woke up. Daddy, who the hell is that? Why is he in my room??" Alexandra was slightly puzzled but looking at the dazed stranger in her room, she quickly asked her father.
Sir Dominic looked at where she was pointing and realized she's talking about Benjamin. He widened his eyes in surprise and looked back at his daughter.
"Alex, that's Benjamin, don't you remember him?"
"No, I don't know him, Daddy." Alexandra replied.
Sir Dominic Zane quickly instructed the maid to call the doctors over. Meanwhile, he assisted Alexandra and put her back in her bed.
"Alexandra, what was the last thing you remember, honey?" Sir Dominic tactfully asked her. Benjamin was silent while standing by the bed, the expression on his face grim.
"I accepted the offer for internship at the National Hospital. Why daddy? Oh my God, did they reject me?" Alexandra asked, alarmed.
"No, no, don't be ridiculous, who could reject such an intelligent person like you? It's ok honey, we'll talk later. You rest first, alright?" Sir Dominic assured his daughter.
"Daddy." Alexandra motioned for her father to come closer to her. Puzzled, Sir Dominic leaned over.
"Can you please ask that man to leave my room? He's staring at me." Although she whispered, it was still loud enough for Benjamin to hear. He wanted to go over to her, but Sir Dominic turned and signalled him to leave together. Benjamin sighed and walked out of the room with Sir Dominic. Before he left the room, he turned and looked at Alexandra. The girl however, averted her eyes.
