Chương 20: 20. Meet Again
The wedding between Prince Aaron Wright Vern Dupont and Ms Emelia Jones was scheduled to take place in the following month. Amongst the guests invited were members of the royal families, dignitaries, noble families, respected scholars and famous celebrities of Northernlands. Highly respected guests from the neighbouring countries were also invited. Given the fact that the current King of Northernlands was Prince Aaron's uncle and Prince Aaron himself was one of the favoured grandsons of the old King, this affair was highly anticipated as one of the biggest events of the year.
The Old King had given instructions that no expense should be restricted and he wanted this wedding to be a grand one. Once the news that the royal family of Vern Dupont had formed a marriage alliance with Admiral Frederick Jones, everyone had cheered the couple and offered their utmost blessings to the highly respected couple. Although Prince Aaron was regarded as one of the most accomplished bachelors, excelled both in personal qualities and in the business world, Captain Emelia Jones held her own merits and awards as well, and was one of the highly valued air force officer in Northernlands. Therefore everyone applauded this match made in heaven and wished them a happy and fruitful marriage.
As one of the close associates of Prince Aaron, Zachary Croft and his fiancee were also invited to the wedding. Zachary Croft was in dilemma as the image of Benjamin Wright at the hospital kept haunting him. He now knew that Benjamin was working for the royal family, and if he brought Alexandra to the wedding, they might crossed path. He was afraid that Alexandra would be hurt if she saw him. However, the invitation were extended to Alexandra as well and Prince Aaron had specifically called to make sure Zachary come with his fiancee. Aaron had expressly stated that he wanted to introduce the both of them to his wife, Emelia.
"Alex, we will be attending a royal wedding in Northernlands next month. Do you think you can take off for about a week? I plan to bring you around the country after the wedding." Zachary Croft finally made up his mind. He would make sure Alexandra didn't cross path with Benjamin.
"A royal wedding? Oh, is that your business associate, Prince Aaron?" Alexandra asked.
"Yes, that's him. He insisted that we both attend. And don't forget, your fiancé lived in Northernlands for so many years. I want to show you around!" Zachary Croft said with a smile on his face. He couldn't wait to bring Alexandra around.
"Sure, I think I can take a week off. Let me inform the hospital tomorrow." Alexandra replied. She did need a vacation after all. With everything that's going on, maybe this short holidays would take her mind off things for a bit.
When they landed at the Northern airport, a black Maybach was waiting for them. Prince Aaron had prepared a ride to bring them to the hotel which was also booked for them. Zachary Croft was praying hard that it wasn't Benjamin who had driven the car and thankfully, when the driver emerged to take their suitcases, Zachary Croft was relieved it wasn't him. Alexandra was excited to see the beautiful scenery surrounding the city as it was filled with greenery and flowers everywhere. Apparently it was rumoured that the younger prince of the royal family had proposed for such changes and given the positive feedbacks of the public, the city's beautification measures were carried out smoothly and promptly. Alexandra could already imagine herself living in Northernlands simply because of this reason!
The wedding celebration took place the next evening. Due to strict protocol, only immediate family members attended the exchange of vows between the couple during the church ceremony in the morning. However, the guests were all invited to attend the wedding celebration held at the banquet hall located at the secondary palace of the King. Alexandra had decided to adorn a rose gold off shoulder dress by her favourite designer, Zuhair Murad. She had simply braided her long hair intertwined with rose gold leaves. Her make up was minimal, enhanced by her own natural beauty. In short, she looked stunning.
Zachary Croft couldn't help but to lean down and gave her a quick kiss when he saw her came out of the room. She was indeed breathtaking. As worried as he was of Alexandra meeting Benjamin, Zachary Croft also couldn't wait to show her off as his fiancée and soon to be Mrs Zachary Croft. Zachary Croft himself looked very handsome in his black tuxedo.
When they stepped into the banquet hall, the party had already started. Alexandra gasped in awe when she saw the grand ballroom.
The ballroom is expansive, with high ceilings furnished with crystal chandeliers that cast a soft, golden glow across the room. Along the walls, towering pillars wrapped in fine draperies of satin and velvet added a regal touch, their deep colours contrasting with the shimmering white marble floors below. Tables are beautifully arranged with white linens and adorned with centerpieces that were works of art themselves.
Female guests dressed in the most glamorous and beautiful evening gowns were seen mingling, laughing happily with one another. The male guests, with their tuxedos or dark suits, formed groups and chatting amongst themselves too. The moment Alexandra walked in with Zachary, the guests standing nearest to them gasped and fell silent. The rich and noble members of society had never seen Alexandra before and wondered which family daughter did she come from. On the other hand, many of them recognised Zachary Croft as the heir to the Croft Foundation. They quickly went over to chat with Zachary and once they knew who Alexandra was, the guests were surprised and praised Zachary for having such a good luck in finding a beautiful wife.
Benjamin Wright was restless. He didn't know why was he feeling this way. It's not like he was the one getting married today. But he couldn't help feeling uneasy, like something would happen tonight. The banquet hall was in full swing when he walked in earlier. Several young ladies whom he barely recognised suddenly swarmed around him, asking about his identity. Luckily his bodyguards were around and so they quickly protected him and escorted him to the main table where his seat was.
"Who's that handsome young man? I've never seen him before." One of the ladies present asked one another.
"He's heavily guarded and no one is allowed to be near him. He must be someone close to the royal family." Another one responded.
"Haha! Look at all those young girls trying their luck. And he didn't even spare them a glance. Silly young girls, is this the way to behave in such a prestigious gathering? Luckily my daughter isn't one of them." One lady who looked more dignified than the rest retorted, chastising the young girls without restraint. The group of women fell silent as some of the young girls whom she spoke of were their daughters.
At the main table, Benjamin walked over to where Prince Aaron and his sister-in-law, Emelia were seated and extended his congratulations once again. Prince Aaron's face was full of smiles and one could see how pleased he was with his bride. He had chosen to wear a white tuxedo, which enhanced his dark handsome looks, making all the young ladies blushed at the sight of this handsome groom.
Emelia, with her bridal dress, looked resplendent and was also smiling. She had chosen a simple off-white mermaid cut wedding gown, showing off all her curves at the right places. A dazzling tiara could be seen adorning her beautifully crafted hairdo. Her make up was minimal, and she looked charming and beautiful. Not one person could find fault with this well matched couple.
Admiral Frederic Jones looked majestic in his official attire, while making small talks with the other dignitaries and Archduke Vern Dupont. Both father of the bride and father of the groom looked harmonious chatting away and satisfaction could be seen in their faces.
While Benjamin was chatting with Prince Aaron and Emelia Jones, suddenly a voice interrupted them. Because his back was facing the person who approached them, Benjamin couldn't see who it was. However, in the next second he froze when he heard his brother called out, "Zachary Croft! You're finally here! Is this your fiancée?"
