Mark's hand tightened when he heard this. Mildred spoke with such certainty and ease that it was obvious this was just the way they lived. Mark felt foolish at that moment. He should have realized that something like this would be the case right from the start. These were demons, not humans. They weren't going to abide by the rules that the people in his world lived by, and they weren't going to just allow the survivors to have an easy death after a war.
