The images that General Raj and George were seeing through the satellite were also being transmitted directly to Marilyn. There was a small box on the bottom right side of the television that showed the current estimated death toll, and Marilyn felt her heart squeeze at the unbelievable number of people who had died already. If this many people were already dead, then just how many more would die soon?
[~1.5 million dead]
Marilyn rubbed her hand through her face and took a deep breath. She couldn't allow this to affect her too much. She was the president, and she needed to stand strong. What would happen if they needed her to make a public announcement or something? She couldn't do it when she was acting like this.
I feel a little bad about going off on a tangent like this. I really want to just get ot Mark's battles right away, but I also feel like it's necessary to build these parts of the story up for the sake of the plot later in the book. I hope you guys are enjoying it.
