Chương 132: This news caused a stir throughout the base once again

Hunter gave his wife a tug, sighing, "Let it go. We won't get them back. Tomorrow, I'll set up a canopy, and we'll live here from now on."

Darlene cursed for a few minutes, then stopped when she grew thirsty and tired. She noticed Alice resting nearby and stormed over aggressively.

"Did you steal our vegetables?" Darlene demanded.

Alice furrowed her brow and replied icily, "No."

"It must be you! Your vegetables didn't grow, but you saw ours thriving and got jealous!" Darlene accused, glaring at Alice. Suddenly, she reached out to grab Alice. "You're just a thief! I'll take you to see the Base Commander. This won't end until you compensate us. I'll make everyone see what a thief looks like."

Alice swiftly dodged her grasp, her eyes narrowing dangerously. "I'll say it again: it wasn't me."

Hunter stepped in to pull his wife back. "They have their own garden; they wouldn't need to steal two of our vegetables. Let it go."

He could sense that this girl was not someone to be trifled with. In this day and age, the world wasn't as safe as it used to be. Many people had guns and weapons, and provoking someone could lead to uncontrollable consequences, which would be disastrous for them.

Alice's expression softened slightly. "Your vegetables were stolen by two men. It has nothing to do with me."

Darlene exploded again, angrily shouting, "Why didn't you stop them when you saw it happening? If it weren't for you, our vegetables wouldn't have been stolen."

Alice found the logic amusing. "Auntie, your face is quite something. Please, do us all a favor and zip it. I have no reason to help you stop them. Now it seems that your stolen vegetables serve you right."

"You little slut! How dare you speak to me like that!" Darlene was bursting with anger but had nowhere to vent. She picked up the nearby shovel and swung it at Alice.

Hunter wanted to intervene but was too late. All he could do was shout, "Watch out!"

Alice stood her ground and caught the shovel as it came toward her.

Darlene tried to yank it back but found it immovable. She called out to her husband, "Why aren't you helping me?"

Hunter was at his wit's end. Just as he was about to pull her away, Alice suddenly let go.

Darlene, propelled by momentum, fell backward and landed on the ground.

"You..." Darlene's face flushed with embarrassment. She grabbed the shovel again and charged at Alice, but Hunter managed to restrain her.

Realizing she couldn't win, Darlene rushed to Alice's vegetable patch, grabbed a hoe, and started digging up and throwing away all of Alice's seeds.

Seeing this, Alice was filled with rage. She pulled out a knife she hadn't taken out for a long time. "Try touching my seeds again."

Hunter, witnessing this, hurried to apologize. "I'm sorry. My wife has a mental illness. It started after the natural disasters."

The blade of the knife gleamed in the sunlight, sending shivers down the spine. Darlene was startled, not knowing where Alice had pulled the knife from.Darlene's face was filled with fear as she watched Alice approach step by step, continuously retreating. "What... what do you want?"

"I want compensation for the seeds in my garden. How do you plan to compensate?" Alice stared at her coldly, a hint of a smirk playing at the corner of her lips.

Hunter protected his wife behind him at the critical moment. "Young lady, let's talk it out. How about this? You can take whatever vegetables you want from our garden."

Only then did Alice put away her knife. Without hesitation, she went to their vegetable patch and pulled out several vegetables.

Darlene couldn't bear to watch and kept complaining to her husband, "Why did you let her take our vegetables? Are you still a man? Go up and fight her. I don't believe she can beat you."

Hunter was almost driven to madness by her. "Next time, you deal with it yourself. Don't just talk and do nothing. If I can't win, am I just useless?"He was truly angry now. He had been protecting her, yet in her eyes, his life wasn't even worth mentioning.

Alice pulled out a dozen or so vegetables, walked towards them with a cold expression, and said, "I won't hold today against you, but if anyone dares to damage my garden again, I won't be so forgiving."

The couple dared not speak. Alice put the vegetables in the basket, ready to leave, when suddenly she remembered something. "And another thing, if my garden is ever damaged again, I'll assume it's you."

"Why should I?" Darlene was still afraid of her, protesting vehemently.

"Because your character is unreliable, and I can't trust you," Alice replied icily.

Hunter also felt aggrieved, but knowing he couldn't afford to provoke her, he continued to speak kindly. "Rest assured, we won't damage your land. We'll come every day to water it and keep an eye on it for you."

Alice didn't say anything more. She left with the basket.

Once she was gone, Hunter picked up the shovel and went to tidy up Alice's plot, replanting the seeds.

"What are you doing? She's already let it go, and you're still tending to her garden. Are you eyeing that vixen?" Darlene accused bitterly.Hunter couldn't stand it anymore and walked over to slap her. "Shut up! It's all because of your nonsense. If you hadn't falsely accused them, we wouldn't have lost over a dozen vegetables for nothing."

The couple had a big argument, and not far away, Alice saw it and turned to leave. She deliberately didn't go far, just to see if Darlene would damage her land.Damaging the land wasn't the main issue; the main concern was that she didn't have many seeds left. If she had to replant, she wouldn't have enough seeds.

Fortunately, Hunter was reasonable. Otherwise, she would have dealt with the couple properly.

Back at home, Blanche saw the fresh vegetables in her basket and asked in surprise, "Where did you buy these vegetables?"

The base's supermarket and market only sold dry goods, and fresh produce was rare. As for vegetables, she hadn't seen any since she arrived.

People in the base used to dislike farming because the land was too salty to yield anything, so they relied on fishing for a living. It wasn't until the seawater was polluted not long ago that they began to consider farming.

Alice recounted what had just happened. "These vegetables were taken from them."Seeds were also precious. She wouldn't be so foolish as to let them off without compensation.

"It's really something else nowadays," Blanche cursed.

More and more people were looking for unused land to farm and grow rice, dig ponds to raise fish fry.

You could see people carrying hoes and shovels not far from the door, and the occupied land was marked.

This caused dissatisfaction among many people, and land disputes erupted vigorously.

Ignatius had no choice but to issue an order: all land within the base's territory belonged to the base, and if anyone wanted to farm, they had to rent it. The rental fee would be determined by the fertility of the land and its size.

This news caused a stir throughout the base once again.
