The moment Shiller's words fell, everyone was enveloped by the grey mist. The first to disappear was Gordon. After a moment of disorientation, he found himself in a strange place, with a floor of entwined black and gold beneath his feet and infinite stories above him.
There were two Shillers standing in front of him. One was the Shiller he knew, and the other was a Shiller with green hair. Standing next to the two men was another person with green hair wearing clown makeup.
"You're going to let him go first?" Joker Jack circled Gordon twice and chuckled, "Well, this man looks like the opposite of Batman, always sticking to his ridiculous kindness and hope..."
Ignoring Jack, Shiller explained to the somewhat dumbfounded Gordon, "At present, our collective consciousness is not enough to completely eradicate this monster."
"Part of it is because the laughing egg might have very special properties, and if your rank isn't high enough, it's hard to thoroughly eliminate it. Another reason is that Parallax, as one of the sources of the Yellow Lantern Ring's power, is very hard to eliminate."
"So what are you planning to do?" Gordon asked, looking around at their surroundings then back at Shiller. He said, "It seems like you already have an idea?"
"Yes, this High Tower you see is actually my Thought Palace. And just now, I slightly modified it to make it an 'Amplifier'."
"Amplifier? To amplify what?" Gordon asked, puzzled.
"Emotions." Shiller gave a definite answer. He said, "Various Emotional Spectrums exist in the cosmos. When one of those emotions reaches its peak, it will attract a mysterious power, that is, the Lantern ring."
"I will use this High Tower to infinitely amplify your emotions and then send them into the cosmos, deliberately attracting the Lantern ring. In this way, you all can fight with the power of the Lantern ring."
"Alright, but why am I the first?"
"Each Lantern ring represents a different emotion, and only those with specific emotional characteristics can attract the Lantern ring."
"While my Thought Palace can greatly amplify a certain emotion, it's easier for those who naturally possess a strong emotion to succeed."
"And you, Detective Gordon, please concentrate now and recall those moments full of light and hope..."
Although still somewhat puzzled, Gordon did as told. One scene after another began to appear in his mind.
He was working day after day in this City of Despair, returning home tired after dusk, being driven away, insulted, even hunted down.
He recalled a scene where he was being hunted down. On that rainy night, he was running for his life. Pain and the smell of blood surged up, and he did everything he could to escape the killer, jumping out of a window and landing in a pile of rubbish, cold rain hammering his face.
Yet, an intense determination sprung up within him. Even if he were the last person truly desiring to save this city, it would undoubtedly be him, it would be Gordon.
With intense hope-filled emotions, Gordon's resolve shot straight onto the Tower of Thought and into the cosmos. Soon, a faint voice echoed near Gordon's ear, it was indistinct and unclear as if muffled by a thick wall.
"In fearful day, in raging night,
With strong hearts full, our souls ignite,
When all seems lost in the War of Light,
Look to the stars—
For hope burns bright!"
"Lifeform identified: James Gordon of Earth. You possess the ability to inspire others with unwavering hope. Welcome to the—Blue Lantern Corps!"
Shiller turned his eyes to the wall of the Thought Palace, his gaze piercing through the wall as if looking at reality.
In reality, a ring radiating blue light was hovering quietly above the sleeping Gordon's head.
The Blue Lantern ring, a symbol of hope, was summoned by the amplified hopeful emotions. But as soon as it arrived, it felt somewhat bewildered.
It could feel that its future host was immersed in a dream. However, if the host does not wake up, how can he accept the ring?
If the host doesn't actively accept the ring's power, the ring cannot recognize a master. Like in the original comics, Batman steadfastly refused to take a ring, and there was nothing the ring could do.
But now that the ring was here, could it really just leave? The blue-lit ring hesitated for a moment, then decided to get closer to the host's consciousness.
However, since the ring was a corporeal object, it couldn't enter Gordon's body. Hence, the blue light gradually separated from the ring and entered Gordon's forehead. The depleted ring dropped onto the floor with a 'clink.'
The blue lantern energy had entered Gordon's body, but the actual ring did not as it had been drained of energy and had gone into standby.
As the "clink" echoed in the Consciousness space, a blue Lantern ring appeared in front of Gordon. Gordon looked at the ring and asked, "Is this the ring you mentioned? Should I wear it?"
"Sure, Detective Gordon, but don't let this power control you."
"Don't worry, I understand. I have never liked relying too much on external things." After speaking, Gordon stretched out his hand. The blue light flew onto his finger.
By the time Gordon exited the Tower of Heaven, he was totally transformed. His whole body was shimmering with blue light. Hal stared at him, dumbfounded, and said, "That's the power of the Lantern ring? The Blue Lantern ring?? How do you have the power of the Blue Lantern ring???"
