Chương 5: Darkness Descends

Ali, who was just about to shoot Kevin in the head felt a jolt of shock in his wrists as the gun dropped from his hands. He clenched to control the stinging pain.

But just then someone grabbed his hand and pulled him away.

"Mr Arya, you're under arrest for disturbing the public order and open assault charges. You have the right to remain silent and call for a lawyer, but it would be good for you to cooperate with us and follow us back to the station now."

Hearing the long standing speech of justice and law along with that familiar tone Ali didn't have to guess the identity of this girl. Sophia Singh, a girl who just happened to have some prejudice against him for years now. For reasons unknown.

"Not now, lady." Ali said as he shook her hands away and bent down to pick the gun back. But the lady officer probably didn't take lightly to his actions and directly pointed her gun at his head.

"Any actions against my orders now would be considered you refusing arrest and the investigation. So I'd think twice before moving a finger. You too, leave him alone." Sophia said without any emotions and signaled the constables behind her to come and take Ali and his guards away.

Ignoring the little struggle from Ali and glaring eyes from his guards when she pulled a gun on their master, Sophia just turned her head to look at the 'victim' on the road, Kevin. Who was just staring at her awestruck with a lousy smile and lost eyes.

After all, why wouldn't he be. In front of him stood the famous police flower of their southside bureau. Someone whose face and figure could easily rival that of famous actresses and models on the TV.

Wearing the official khaki (dull brown) uniform with a tight fitting size that highlighted her perfect figure perfectly. Be it the modest chest or her slim waist, that average short height or the clear skin on her face and hands - everything about her looked so beautiful in Kevin's eyes, that he couldn't help but not take his eyes away from her.

Just moments ago he thought he saw death face to face, and just then to save him God sent a pretty angel.

He remembered about his ex-girlfriend who left him, and felt ashamed when he compared both of these girls in his head.

'It's destiny. Isn't it? Just after my break up _' Kevin couldn't help but wonder as his brain pulled various fantasy stories and scenes from various tv dramas and cliche movies for him to enjoy and dream.

"Oyee, You're free now. Get up from the ground already." Sophia said with a little impatience noticing the unscrupulous gaze from this stranger.

Kevin raised his hand, hoping she'd grab it and pull him up, but Sophia just stared at him like looking at a fool. Noticing his blunder, Kevin pulled his hand back and coughed to hide his embarrassment, as he stood up.

"You came just in time, otherwise that guy would've really killed me. Thank you so much." Kevin said, dusting his clothes and giving Ali a final look, before turning back at the pretty angel.

"Sophia," Kevin muttered as he read her name on her badge and remembered it.

"You need to come with us to the station too?" Sophia said and turned around to leave.

Though Kevin's eyes habitually darted down to stare at her ass for a second, but then hearing her command he came to his senses and asked hurriedly "Me, but why? I'm the victim here. You can ask anyone standing there."

"We've seen the clips, mr.victim. You just need to give your statement so we can officially file a report against him." She informed him and moved towards the accident site where her comrades had sealed the area and were asking questions with passerbys.

Someone was taking photos from various angles for the scene study, while the doctors were cleaning the scene and taking the dead body and all the possible samples back to the hospital for further investigation.

"Did you know about this accident? Seen anything?" Sophia asked as she noticed Kevin looking at Shiva's dead body and halting his steps.

"N_no, nothing. I was just walking there when his guards grabbed me and started beating _ I mean fighting with me. I don't know anything about it." Kevin said changing his words and strategy after some thought. He didn't want to commit to murder out in the open.

At Least deny it till you can to avoid responsibility.

'If this pretty officer thinks I'm the killer, she'd be angry, right?' Kevin thought and decided to wait. He can always change his statement later, if there's any reward on this psycho's head.

Sophia didn't notice his expression and continued looking around the scene and direction of the truck and their collision.

As fate would have it, she didn't notice any cameras or recording devices nearby through which she could see what exactly happened. So she could just think of it as either an accident or a drunk driving case. Since the truck driver was missing. And they found a half drunk bottle of whiskey inside the truck.

Even Kevin, who followed behind her, heard some basic information about Shiva from the talks happening nearby. About where he worked and how he always looked a little depressed.

Hearing these bits of pieces of information, Kevin sighed to himself that he lost his reward, but also felt grateful that no one saw him pushing Shiva and he didn't agree to it earlier.

'Police shouldn't listen to the psycho who's carrying guns and shooting people on open roads over me , so I should be safe.' Kevin prayed in his heart and thanked the gods and heavens for his smart brain and their mercy.

'I'll go to your temple and light an incense, God. Just keep looking after me.' Kevin thought and prayed as he looked at Shiva's body and then at the sky above with his eyes closed.

Sophia glanced at him and thought he was praying for Shiva's soul and nodded her head, thinking Kevin's a good man and she was right to capture that rich second generation first.

Ali, who was getting pushed to sit in the police car clenched his fists seeing the killer of his friend acting righteous over his dead body. But before he could struggle further Daniel, his bodyguard, grabbed his hands and told him to calm down.

"I've informed Emily, young master. She'll handle all the formalities and legal problems. But please you got to control yourself. I will personally bring him to you before day's end. Just please calm yourself for now." Daniel said, hoping to stop this issue from being any more prolific.

Ali closed his eyes as a tear trickled down his eyes. "I'm sorry, brother." He muttered and closed his eyes to stop his breakdown.

Yet just when his eyes turned dark, the entire world itself got shrouded in the darkness.

Not metaphorically, but quite literally.

As a veil of darkness suddenly appeared and started to spread everywhere. Covering the sky over their city in complete darkness in just the next few seconds.

The darkness descends.
