Chương 401: Chapter 401: Investigating the Orcs

With just this impressive transformation technique, Alaric had already captured the attention of Lothar and Llane.

Initially curious about Alaric's young age and his rise to the position of Archmage, the two now had a firsthand experience of his capabilities, leading them to view him in a new light.

Alaric began to use a small knife to gesture at the orc captive.

First, he lifted the orc's eyelids, then pried open its large mouth with the knife for observation.

He proceeded to pinch the muscles in the orc's arms and legs, carefully examining its hands and feet.

Finally, he used the knife to separate the orc's blood vessels, filling two bottles with its blood.

As he examined the orc, a notebook floated nearby, with a self-writing quill swiftly jotting down notes and sketches.

The entire process took half an hour before he concluded.

When Alaric left the prison and restored the cage to its original state, Llane and Lothar approached him.

"Archmage Sandor, what were you just doing?" Llane asked curiously.

Lothar also looked at Alaric.

"I was examining and recording the characteristics of the orc," Alaric explained as he walked.

"I want to understand the true origin of this creature and its relationship with the trolls; I believe this will help us comprehend and deal with them."

"And the conclusion?" Lothar asked eagerly.

"Right now, it's only a preliminary conclusion. I need to conduct further research. However, I can confirm that orcs are neither another kind of troll nor a relative of trolls," Alaric replied.

"Why do you say that?" Lothar asked, intrigued.

"Let's start with the language. According to the history recorded by the elves, when Azeroth was still a single continent, trolls once had a unified empire.

However, as the continent fractured, trolls split into various tribes across the world.

Because of this historical unity, the language of today's trolls largely derives from the language of the ancient troll empire.

Although I can't understand orcish, based on the tone, pauses, and interjections, their language has no relation whatsoever to that of trolls."

"Ah, I see," Llane and Lothar nodded, realization dawning on them.

"Next, let's talk about their characteristics," Alaric continued.

"While orcs and trolls share tall statures and large tusks, they differ significantly in many other features, such as tooth alignment, muscle structure, and the number and shape of bones.

You see, species undergo evolutionary changes… (a segment about biological evolution) … In summary, the physical structure of orcs differs in many ways from the various races on Azeroth, which is what surprised me the most."

Listening to Alaric's professional analysis, Llane and Lothar were left bewildered, only able to nod along with expressions that said, "I don't know what you're talking about, but it sounds impressive."

Once Alaric finished, Llane eagerly asked, "So? What's your final conclusion?"

"No, it's not a final conclusion but a preliminary one," Alaric said, furrowing his brow and speaking softly. "I suspect they are not a native species of Azeroth."

This conclusion was hard for Lothar and Llane to believe.

They exchanged glances, and eventually, Lothar spoke up, "Are you saying they come from another world?"

"Yes, that's a possibility," Alaric nodded. "However, I'll need to conduct further analysis."

Though Alaric had not fully confirmed this theory, Lothar began to believe it in his heart.

Based on his years of experience protecting the Kingdom of Stormwind, he recognized that the orcs' abilities and behavioral patterns were entirely different from any enemies he had encountered, whether trolls, worgen, murlocs, or green-skinned goblins; they all differed from the orcs.

What left the deepest impression on him was the orcs' deep-seated warlike nature and bloodthirst.

In the following days, Alaric repeatedly declined invitations to banquets from King Llane and the nobles, spending several weeks traversing the Kingdom of Stormwind and the battlefields of the Redridge Mountains under the guidance of several knights, observing the traces left by orcs.

He also examined many orc supplies confiscated by the Kingdom of Stormwind, including battle flags, weapons, armor, corpses of mounts, tents, and large artillery.

Later, he received permission from Llane to spend several days in the dungeon interrogating the orc captives, during which he utilized mental magic, including Mind Control.

Almost two months after arriving in the Kingdom of Stormwind, Alaric finally visited King Llane again.

At this point, King Llane had little hope for support from Dalaran. The envoy from Dalaran had been evasive about requests for aid and seemed more interested in the orcs themselves.

However, perhaps due to his naturally generous disposition, Llane satisfied the curiosity of the young Archmage.

As a result, after two months, King Llane unexpectedly received a formal visit request from the Archmage, which was quite different from the usual visits.

This formal request rekindled Llane's hopes for support.

The meeting took place in the king's study, accompanied by Anduin Lothar.

When Alaric stepped into the study, Llane noticed that this time Alaric was not empty-handed—though he could store items in a spatial bag—he was holding a notebook-like book.

After the palace maid served tea to the three, Alaric opened the conversation.

"Your Majesty," he said in a serious tone, "first, I must thank you for your full cooperation, which allowed me to conduct a series of investigations on this newly discovered orc race."

"Ah, that's the least I could do," Llane replied with a warm smile. "I'm glad to help you."

"Yes, you've indeed been a great help… and perhaps this has helped you as well," Alaric said, handing the notebook-like book to Llane.

"Now, allow me to show you the results of my work during this time."

Llane took the book, which was not thick and appeared unadorned, the cover elegantly inscribed with the words.

"Preliminary Analysis and Speculation on the Suspected Otherworldly Race of Orcs."

Flipping open the book, Llane found a comprehensive introduction to the orc race written in a professional tone, detailing their physiological characteristics, civilization, political system, technological level, the places they originally inhabited, portions of their history and customs.

Their basic language, major tribes and their descriptions, certain leaders, and speculations on their reasons for attacking the Kingdom of Stormwind, and so on—essentially an encyclopedia on orcs.

The information in this book was derived not only from some memories of Alaric's past life but also from the clues he gathered from the orcs and the interrogations of the captives during this time.

At the end of the book, he described the discovery of Fel energy components in the orc blood and analyzed the relationship between orcs and demons.
