The air in Chen Xu's car was suffocating.

Rui Li sat stiffly, his back pressed against the seat as though it might swallow him whole.

Chen Xu's sharp breathing was the only sound in the car, slicing through the silence like a blade.

Rui Li shifted slightly, the leather seat creaking under him. Chen Xu shot him a glare. He immediately froze.

Even though he was used to her temper, it never made it easier to endure.

She crossed her arms tightly over her chest, her nails digging into her sleeves. "Do you know how humiliating that was?"

Rui Li kept his gaze fixed forward. Experience had taught him that responding would only make things worse.

"Mo Zi Lin had the audacity to ask me that question in front of everyone!" she hissed. "Does he think I'm some nobody he can humiliate like that?"

Her voice trembled with fury.
