Ruth Dawn put down the scissors in her hand, her cool demeanor returning. "What exactly are you trying to do?"
"Aren't you a smart woman? Can't you tell?"
A smile sat on Fujiwara Makuma's face, but under the moonlight, it was somewhat chilling.
"I need your blood, your bone marrow! Look at my current physical state, I wouldn't have lasted long. But your appearance gave me a new lease on life."
"And the child in your womb is even more amazing; it carries the legendary Kirin blood."
Ruth furrowed her brows. "What is Kirin blood?"
Fujiwara Makuma chuckled and shook his head. "You don't need to know that. Like the phoenix, the Kirin can be reborn from its ashes."
He looked up towards a corner of the sky where faint clouds were gathering.
"It seems a storm is brewing out at sea, miles away. It's unclear if he can survive it and cross the ocean to confront me. Is he really the one who made it out?"
Fujiwara Makuma's musings remained ambiguous.
