His passive skill, [Intermediate Poison Resistance], was sufficient to neutralize the poison's effects.

While it allowed Reginald to create some distance, it failed to achieve its main purpose of weakening Shye. 

Reginald, oblivious to the poison's failure, believed that as long as he continued fending off Shye's attacks, his opportunity would eventually present itself.
