Chương 16: Chapter 15

Just when he thought things were finally going well. His brother had almost paid off the loans, he had gotten a new job, and Raiden had finally left him alone. Things were starting to go great and now, his sister had just one week to live.

How could they pay 5 million yen? Where would they get it from? That too in one week? It was impossible. And who was to say that she wouldn't get another heart attack before then? Doctor Gu said if that were to happen, she wouldn't survive it.

Memories from their childhood suddenly flooded his brain. The way he and Saika used to play together, the times they pulled pranks on Sora and their parents, the times they would go on vacations together, the happy times, the sad times, the times that they would fight and the times they would cry. The birthdays, the parties, how she had always been so supportive and caring.

He couldn't believe that she had just a week to live. Hiro didn't want to lose her.

"And this sir, is the ICU" Hiro heard someone say. "I would take you in but it seems like there's a patient in there. It would be best not to disturb their rest."

"That's fine. I can see it another time."

Hiro's heart trembled. He recognised that voice! He raised his head to find Yamato Raiden standing in front of the ICU with a middle-aged man in a lab coat.

Everything they were saying drowned out as Raiden's voice from a week ago suddenly echoed in his ears.

'Have you ever wondered how amazing life would have been for you if you had just accepted my help that day?'

A heart transplant for his sister would have been a piece of cake for Raiden. In fact, his entire family would be fine. Raiden was ready to do anything as long as Hiro accepted him.

Without thinking, Hiro rushed to his feet, shouting; "Raiden! Raiden!"

Raiden and the middle-aged man turned to see Hiro rushing towards them.

"Raiden, I need your help" Hiro begged. "Please, I need to talk to you."

He took a step closer but Raiden instantly took a step back, staring at him coldly, like he was a stranger.

"Do you know him, Mr Yamato?" the middle-aged man asked, looking at Hiro like he was some beggar. The boy was a mess. His eyes were red and tear marks stained his cheeks. His sandy brown hair was dishevelled and he looked like he had had the worst day ever. The man wondered who even let him into the hospital.

To Hiro's shock, Raiden gave him a single glance then turned away. "I do not know him."

Hiro felt like a bucket of ice was dumped over his head, chilling him to the bone.

Did Raiden just deny him?

He opened and closed his mouth, unsure of what to say. He stood there, staring at Raiden in disbelief. Did Raiden just deny knowing him? What was going on? Was it because he rejected him a week ago?

"Excuse us sir." the middle-aged man said with a polite smile to Hiro then faced Raiden again. "Let's move on to the private male wards then. We have a lot to cover and so little time."

"W-Wait!" Hiro blurted. He stepped closer to Raiden, giving him a pleading look. "I need to talk to you Raiden. It's important. Please, whatever I did, I'm sorry."

He reached out and clutched the sleeve of Raiden's suit. "I'm sorry Raiden" he sniffled, staring up at him as fresh tears bubbled up in his eyes. "Please, I'm sorry. I really need your help."

Hiro looked so pitiful, gazing up at Raiden, eyes wide like he was his only chance at saving Saika. Well, he was but Raiden wasn't moved at all.

"Let go" he growled, glaring down at Hiro. His voice was deep and cold, like a man with a lot of pent-up anger.

Hiro was startled. Raiden had never spoken to him in such a harsh manner. He suddenly didn't know what to do.

"Look here kid" The middle-aged man stepped up and grabbed Hiro by the back of his collar but before he could yank him away from Raiden, his wrist was tightly held.

"I'd appreciate it if you refrain from using any form of violence in my presence, Doctor Hatake," Raiden said, pulling the man's hand away from Hiro. "This makes me question your hospital ethics. Do you treat all your patients like this?"

Doctor Hatake began to sweat. Raiden was squeezing his hand and it hurt like hell. "O-Of course not, Mr Yamato." He chuckled nervously. "This boy was bothering you. I jus-"

"You treat him respectfully, Doctor Hatake," Raiden said, cutting him off as he let go of his hand. "He's still a human being."

The doctor was confused. Wasn't he the one being cold to the boy? He just wanted to help him get rid of him. He rubbed his sore wrist, gritting his teeth in pain.

Wait...to think of it, the boy was addressing him by his first name and he was even apologising. Could they be close and Raiden was pretending not to know him because he was angry with him?

Hiro's heart warmed from Raiden's actions. He wanted to thank Raiden but Raiden yanked his sleeve from Hiro's clutches.

"I believe you wanted to show me the private male wards?" Raiden asked Doctor Hatake.

The doctor nodded. "Ah, yes yes. This way, Mr Yamato." He gestured towards the wide corridor, wondering what the boy could have done to anger Yamato Raiden like this.

Without a single glance at Hiro, Raiden followed the man down the hall, leaving Hiro completely stunned.

Was this what it meant to be free from Yamato Raiden?

If it was, then Hiro didn't like it.

"What are you waiting for? Go over there!" Michi whisper-yelled, pushing Hiro towards a sleek black Chevrolet.

They were outside Raiden's company, waiting for him to come out. The building was a mega-tall skyscraper which had over 70 stories with clean heat-strengthened glasses from top to bottom.

"I can't" Hiro whined, hiding behind a pillar on the stairs leading to the entrance of the building. "What if he acts like he doesn't know me again?"

Michi smacked him on the head. "Hiro, your sister's life is at stake. Is this the time to be worried about that? You go over there right now and beg if you have to."

Hiro rubbed his head, pouting from the pain. "B-But what if he doesn't help me?"
