Ayanokoji POV
Our class was getting somewhat better, people had started to come to class and attend it regularly and also worry about their behavior
The time for the break came as I walked over to Hirata as Horikita walked alongside me, he noticed us and smiled
"Ayanokoji and Horikita, I actually wanted to talk to you about something!" he said as I replied immediately
"Is it about a study group?" I said as he nodded, a little surprised at my guess
"Y-yea, how'd you know?" he said as I shrugged
"You're a smart guy and kind guy, if anyone, it would be you who would be the one to take initiative for something like this. Study groups are simply the most logical conclusion" I explained as Hirata nodded a little taken aback by my logic
Did I overdo it?
"Y-yeah, I had a few people ask around and they told me they were happy to join! I got basically everyone to agree except Kouenji, Sudo, Yamauchi and Ike" he explained as I nodded, I think I can piece together why they had refused
Sudo was too busy with his club activities and had no interest in studying, it hadn't seeped into his mind that he needed to pass the exams to continue pursuing his dreams of becoming a pro here
Yamauchi and Ike simply didn't like Hirata, maybe due to how favorably he is seen by everyone around and that would lead them to be jealous
As for Kouenji..... he is playing by the rhythm of his own drum. He is probably fine regardless
"Horikita, any ideas?" I asked as me and Hirata look at her as she gives out her suggestion
"We could simply divide all the people who had above 80% and give them a few students each, we can follow the materials given by Miss Chabashira and just work on everyone's weak areas." she suggested as Hirata nodded but I shook my head
"What's wrong with what I said? I believe I covered everything" Horikita said as I explained
"I agree with most of it except of the material that Miss Chabashira gave to us. The Mid terms according to the study planner provided by the school has entirely different topics and we haven't received an email or any notice by the school that our syllabus has changed. Miss Chabashira might have given us the wrong syllabus" I explained as Horikita and Hirata were surprised by the reveal
"Miss Chabashira gave us the wrong syllabus? B-but why would she do that? couldn't she double check?" Hirata asked logically as I shook my head
"It doesn't matter, what matters is that we do our syllabus well, I will also go and confirm the syllabus with Miss Chabashira" I said as the both of them nodded
"Also, I want to discuss the groups. I want me, Horikita, Ike, Yamauchi and Sudo in the same group. No matter what happens, do not put Kushida with Ike and Yamauchi." I said as Hirata looked at me confused
"Why? Kushida is friendly with those two" he said as I thought, I can't reveal Kushida's true feelings, it's for her to show and decide on
"They both have their heads in the air when its concerned with Kushida, so it's better to just not have them in the same group. Plus with Horikita we should be able to tutor them well enough" I explained as he nodded, it seemed my logic had earnt his favor and he is just going with what I am saying now
"Alright Ayanokoji, I'll make sure it's done that way. Any other requests?" he asked as I nodded
"The tutors and how the students are divided, I want one student which failed in each tutor's group with Horikita's exception as she has 3. That leaves 4 more. As I have 4 main people who will be tutoring, it should be fine." I explained as he nodded
"And who are they?" he asked as he took out a notepad
"You, Mei Yu-Wang, Kushida and Yukimura" I said as he scribbled the names in as he asked
"Which of the failing students should be in which group?" he asked as I thought about it and said as I nodded
"I want Sakura Airi with Kushida, she is a shy person and would need someone like Kushida to help her communicate, I would prefer if you took Hondou as he would be distracted with Mei and wouldn't be able to get along with Yukimura due to his stubborn personality" I explained as he nodded
"I reckon you add Shinohara with Mei and give Okitani to Yukimura, that should suffice for now right?" I asked as he nodded
"Thanks Ayanokoji! I reckon you study as well, it would benefit you to get more marks as well! maybe we can even get class points if we score well" he said as I nodded, it might be in my best interest to score full marks as well
"Yes, I will go to Miss Chabashira to see if we have the correct study material" I said as he nodded and I looked toward Horikita
"I reckon you ask Sudo, Ike and Yamauchi about the study group. We need them to join" I said as Horikita nodded
"Alright, I'll convince them while you get the syllabus" she agreed as I affirmed her with a nod and made my way to the teacher's lounge, asking for Miss Chabashira who was there
"Ayanokoji? what may you need?" she said as I asked back
"I wanted talk to you Miss Chabashira" I said as out of nowhere Miss Hoshinomiya popped up
"Oh~ was I right about your desires Sae chan~. The same handsome young man is back again? want to explain?" Miss Hoshinomiya teased her as she got a look of annoyance plastered on her face as she smacks Miss Hoshinomiya hard on the back of the head. Ouch.
If you told me Miss Hoshinomiya died due to a severed medulla in that moment, I would have believed you
"Miss Hoshinomiya, I have just came to discuss some class matters with Miss Chabashira" I explained as she nodded in tears
"I was just teasing a little, you didn't need to hit me that hard" Miss Hoshinomiya said with a few tears falling down her eyes in a comedic manner
"Your fault for being a dumbass, Chie. Ayanokoji, Get in the guidance room." she said sternly as I followed her command and walked in without a commotion, she followed suit a few seconds later, making her way inside as well
"Yes Ayanokoji, what did you need?" she asked as I nodded and asked
"Ma'am I noticed that our study planner and the syllabus you gave us differed, may I ask which is the correct one?" I asked as Miss Chabashira looked at the both and said
"The Study planner is correct, it seemed there was a mistake in distributing the syllabus for class D, I will hand out the correct planners tomorrow" she said as I raised my eyebrow
she was neither surprised nor did she mention it was a test for all the classes, just class D. Did she sabotage her own class?
"May I ask why you did so?" I asked as Miss Chabashira sent a response at me right back
"I am not sure what you are referring to" she said as I shook my head at her denial
"You know what I am referring to Miss Chabashira, you did this on purpose. You weren't surprised at all nor concerned. So I am to ask you, why?" I asked her as she replied
"I can't exactly explain but I believe it's in Class D's best interest to be forced back into a corner and have to find other ways to make a surefire victory instead of such a boring method" she said as I sighed
"You really think that's the right way? and for what did you do it? to get me involved?" I asked her as just for a brief moment, she flashed me a look of surprise
"Oh? what do you mean by that?" she said as I responded right back
"You deliberately called me to the office at the time when Horikita would come to allow her to see my capability, what it is to you is the best chance to reach class A isn't it? then you give the class the wrong syllabus to force Horikita to rely on me as you knew it was a small chance that any normal class D student would notice but you failed to consider one variable in this equation" I called her out as she smiled her iconic sadistic smile the whole time
"Oh?~ and what exactly is that Ayanokoji?" she asked as I shrugged
"I am already doing it willingly" I said as she gave me a confused look, doubting my words
"Why? you seem to be the type of not want to involve in things such as this unless you are forced to" she explained as I nodded
"You are correct, I don't want to do this for myself" I said as she narrowed her eyes
"Then for what? Horikita? don't tell me you are some lovesick idiot who will do anything for her" Miss Chabashira said as I shook my head at her accusation
"Class D has people with dreams and aspirations, they are dumb and have many flaws yet I feel like most of them deserve a chance to grow and learn. Horikita is a big part, she is my friend I want to support her but I really just want to help them get better" I explained as she asked me confused
"So what is your true intention? to be the leader and lead them to victory?" she asked me as I simply said back
"No, I am not a leader. I am more so someone who can push others to be better and lead better. I will do my best to help my friends and the class because I wish to do so." I explained as she nodded, a little hesitant
"I didn't imagine you would be as sappy as this" she said as I shrugged
"I didn't either, just as I didn't expect you to be so desperate to reach class A" I said as she sighed at me calling her out
"Hah.... I reckon it would be surprising. I just could never let go of that dream" she said as I raised an eyebrow
"Do you wish to talk about it?" I asked as she chuckled
"No, that's a story for another time. Inform your classmates about the developments and the study groups. And I wanted to ask, do you have a backup?" she asked as I nodded
"I have a hunch that which if it is right, Class D might be able to get the highest marks all around" I explained as she smiles
"Well, I will be looking forward to it" she said as I nodded
"Thank you for your time Miss Chabashira, I will be leaving" I said as she said before I closed to door
"No, Thank you Ayanokoji. You just gave this woman some hope" she said with a genuine smile. that smile made me feel better
I made my way back to the class as I see a Horikita who was fuming with anger, I made my way towards her
"What happened? did it not go well" I asked as she exploded in anger
"THOSE THREE! THEY ARE UNBEARABLE!" she exclaimed angrily. That isn't good but I suppose that is to be expected, her social skills simply aren't at that level. I have a plan though.
"Come, let's talk to them again" I said as Horikita slowly nodded and followed me as I made my way to Ike
"Hello Ike, what's your plan for the exams?" I asked as he groaned
"Horikita asked me the same thing, I am not joining your stupid study session! I am gonna be fine with cramming!" he said as I raised my eyebrow
"Cram with what notes? you made none. You haven't bothered to learn anything and now expect to teach yourself everything?" I asked him as he stammered a little
"W-well I can certainly manage, I am a highschooler! Studying isn't my main concern! it's getting the girls!" he exclaimed as Horikita gave him a look of disgust
"And what girl would like a guy who can't even get good marks?" I asked as he looked at me, confused
"What do you mean?" he asked as I shrugged
"I don't know, as far as I know girls like super smart guys who are reliable. I know that Kikyou does atleast" I said as his eyes bulged outwards at the revelation
"S-she does!?" he said as I nodded
"Well yeah, but if you don't want any help with the mid terms, it's alright. You and your friend Yamauchi can manage right?" I said as he shook his head vigorously
"No! let me join! I'll get Haruki to join to! When do we start!?" he said as I exchanged contacts with him, telling him that I will give him the time and place later
"Alright, that's those two. If Ike agreed then Yamauchi is sure to follow. Now let's go to Sudo" I said as Horikita slowly nodded, surprised at me being able to convince Ike
"How... how did you do that? I thought communication was your weak point?" she asked in utter shock, seeing how I had developed in this way
i shrugged at her question and simply said
"Well, I guess I got enough practice to talk to people better now" I said as Horikita remained quiet, looking down at her inability to help
Don't worry Horikita, your time will come for growth. Just remain patient and fail handedly now. This way you can understand your flaws and grow up.
We made our way to Sudo who was playing basketball on the court as he looked at Horikita angrily
"Oi! didn't I say I am not joining your study group! Ayanokoji I really recommend you find better friends in contrast to that psycho standing beside you" He said as I shook my head
"Horikita isn't a psycho and I wanted to talk about the study group" I asked as he looked me in frustration
"I don't need to study! besides I can't come cuz of practice after school!" he said as I sighed, walking onto the court and making my way to him, removing my jacket and handing it to Horikita
"Hold this please" I told her as she gave me a questioning look
"Sudo, you like playing basketball right? Let's do a 1v1 as we talk to make it more fun for you" I said as Sudo looked at me in confusion but a glad smile
"Really? well I don't mind if you are that much of a fan of being destroyed!" he said as I nodded, loosening my tie
He threw the ball to me to check as I threw it back, the 1v1 started
"First to 3 baskets should be fine. Answer me Sudo, why do you think that studying isn't important" I said as he answered back, doing a behind the back crossover, flying past me
"Because I simply don't need that shit for my career!" he said as he jumped up high to Dunk the ball into the basket but I had reached before him, blocking the ball mid air before he could reach the rim
"False. If you ever dream of reaching the big leagues you need good English for communication and a basic highschool degree to even qualify to play pro" I explained as his attempt for a basket was foiled
He looked at me in surprise and anger as he yelled at me
"Well what then!? I suck at studying and I don't want to! I will make the NBA with my talent alone!" he yelled at me as I check him the ball, he sends it flying back at me as I grab it and begin to dribble
"You don't suck at studying, you just don't like it. Another reason the current you can't be a pro. Your attitude, are you familiar with Kobe Bryant?" I asked him as he nodded, trying to block me as I cross into the line and do a fadeaway shot
"He was famous for his 'Mamba Mentality' and how he couldn't be fazed at all, if you can't keep your head cool in high intensity situations, you could never be the greatest" I said as he gritted his teeth in frustration
"And what can I do about that huh!? since you know everything answer me that!" he yelled in anger as I got the ball again, I dribble the ball standing still outside the 3 point line
"I don't know everything obviously, but I do know that you need to understand that people's words are just that. Words. The only one's that should matter to you are facts and positive ones. Don't let people's negative opinions come because they are worthless" I said as he staggered for a moment at my explanation before returning the intensity again
"Well So what!? What do you reckon I do!?" he yelled at me again, trying to guard me from shooting the ball as I do a step back and shoot a 3 pointer. I had 2 baskets while he had none
"You need to rework your mindset, studying is important and the school's facilities provided are going to help you reach the highest level. You know that as well as I do." I explained as he nodded, as I had the ball in my hands again
"Well Damnit! fuck me for being dumb then huh! guess I'll never be great!" he said as I shook my head
"False. You have a lot of potential. You have an amazing drive and the ambition to do it. You just need to stop letting yourself be affected by shallow words. Because personally? I believe you can do it. You can join our study group, work on passing the exam and then do your best to hone your skills at basketball, what do you say?" I said as he Sudo looked like his eyes had been opened
Someone had looked beyond his appearance and his words for once and had peered deep inside him, supporting him and encouraging him. Showing him a path to reach his dream. How could he ever say no?
"Well Godddamnit, I guess I will have join won't I!" he exclaimed as I crossed the ball as I moved to the rim, Sudo right behind, Sudo tried to block the ball as I was about to jump but I simply didn't care. Powering through and dunking the ball
"Well damn..... didn't you say you hadn't played basketball before? how did you get so good" he asked as I shrugged
"I had watched videos on it before and I am decently athletic, I suppose that gave me the edge" I said as he laughed a little melancholically
I wasn't lying, I had watched the clips of basketball legends on repeat yesterday, engraving each move into my brain as I knew what I had to do to get Sudo to listen, it was only a matter of execution
"I was bested in every part heh... I will join Ayanokoji, please help me reach my dream the both of you!" Sudo earnestly requested as I nodded
"It's a pleasure to have you, tomorrow 6pm meet up with us at the library, you will still be able to practice for about an hour. Try to not be late okay?" I told him as he nodded, with a small smile.
Sudo was sad about how he was bested in his own game but it was the only way to open his eyes, but I was right about his drive. It seems that it made him a lot more motivated and almost excited
"Well we are done with that, let's go Horikita" I said as she nodded, slowly and hesitantly. It seemed she was sad about her failure
"It's alright partner, this isn't your strong suit. We have a lot more challenges ahead and I will need you to focus up and look ahead instead of behind. Alright Horikita?" I said as she looked at me and smiled a little at the consolation
"I suppose so.... let's hope I am able to do well in tomorrow's study session" she said, giving me a hopeful smile. A complete contrast to how she was with Ike and Sudo
"Ofcourse, don't worry too much, ok partner?" I said as Horikita smiled a little
We talked a little more as we both went to our own dorms and slept for the day, plan- convincing the three idiots? was a success!
