Chapter 25 - The Heir

With her curiosity piqued by the commotion, Seraphina approached the group of servants. As she drew closer, she saw a figure standing at the gate, giving orders to a few others who were listening to them.

However, from the distance, and with the crowd blocking the person, she couldn't properly make out who it was.

"What's going on here?"

Seraphina asked one of the servants who stood nearby. The servant turned to her and quickly bowed before responding.

"Lady Seraphina, the Young Master has returned from his mission earlier than expected. He was supposed to be away for a few more weeks."

Hearing the servant's words, she realized who was causing all the commotion at the gate. It was her older brother, Davanai Omri Willows. Davanai was the eldest son and the heir to the House of Willows.

He was a tall, imposing figure with the short dark hair and piercing red eyes of his mother. He was usually dressed in a suit of armor, as he was already a proper knight of the third stage.

As she was about to turn and leave, not wanting to come in contact with another one of her siblings—one that may hate her as well—she heard a voice call out to her from behind.

"Seraphina."

Davanai called out, noticing the girl's presence amongst the crowd. He brushed away the others in his way and moved closer to her—his tall and imposing body stopping just before her.

Seraphina had to look up at the man due to his height and size—easily towering her at over six feet.

"It's good to see you up and about. I've heard about your training and your activity recently. How are you finding it?"

Seraphina found the man's tone surprising at first. She had expected him to be similar to Daisie and simply dislike her, however it seemed she had mistaken him.

He was after all much older than Daisie—it would be childish to act like that.

"It's challenging, but rewarding, brother. Sir Aldric has been an excellent teacher."

She replied, meeting the man's sharp red gaze.

Davanai nodded, a kindly smile covering his face as he spoke once more.

"That's good to hear. Training is never easy, but it's the path to strength and honor. Keep up the hard work and one day you'll be as strong as me."

Seraphina raised a brow at the man's words slightly, but she didn't make any comment. As they spoke, a sudden voice from the side interrupted them.

"Well, if it isn't the frail daughter. Come to try and suck up to big brother?"

Daisie sneered, approaching with a smug look on her face.

"What a touching family reunion."

She mocked.

Davanai's eyes narrowed at Daisie's words, his demeanor instantly shifting to one of cold authority as he spoke with a stern voice.

"Daisie, enough."

He commanded, his tone leaving no room for argument.

"Seraphina is making great strides in her training. You should be more supportive of your sister."

Daisie scowled but said nothing more, her frustration was evident enough on her face. She turned and walked away, leaving Seraphina there with just a confused look on her face.

"She never changes, does she?"

Seraphina sighed, watching her sister's retreating figure.

"Don't let her words get to you. Daisie has a hard time connecting to others."

Davanai said, turning back to Seraphina.

"Focus on your training and your goals. You'll prove your worth through your actions one day."

Seraphina nodded, she never took the words to heart, to begin with, and only thought of the girl as pitiful.

"Good. Now, there's something I want to ask since I ran into you. I'll be heading to the nearby city in a few days with some friends. I have some business to attend to, would you like to join us?"

Seraphina's eyes widened in surprise at the man's question. She had never been outside of the estate before, in fact, she had never even properly explored the estate.

Going to the nearby city would be something she would have never dreamt of being able to do in her previous state—now however she had that chance.

"Really? Would that be fine?"

She asked with a questioning tone, she didn't understand why the man would invite her.

"I thought it would be a good opportunity for you. You can see the city, experience something new, and meet new people. What do you think?"

"I'd love to go. But I should probably check with Father first."

Seraphina was naturally eager to go, but she knew that she was still weak. She had only recently begun to improve her body, and her father might not want her to go out yet.

At least not without protection.

"Of course. I'll speak to him as well, but it would be good for you to convince him. I'm sure he'll be fine with it, especially considering how well you've been doing recently."

Davanai agreed and said.

"Thank you, Brother. I'll talk to him when I get the chance and get back to you soon. When do you plan to leave for the city?"

"We will leave in 3 days, so you have until then to confirm it with Father."

Davanai replied and Seraphina nodded with understanding. After they spoke for a little while longer, simply catching up; they both parted ways and Seraphina returned to her room to rest.

Early the next morning, Seraphina wasted no time to meet her father. Quickly making her way to his office, she knocked on the door and entered the room.

"Father, may I speak with you for a moment?"

Davain looked up from his papers and smiled upon hearing her voice.

"Of course, Seraphina. What is it?"

"Davanai mentioned that he's going to the nearby city in a few days."

She began to explain, as she walked properly into the room and closer to the desk.

"He invited me to join him. I think it would be a good chance for me to see the city and experience something new. May I go?"

Davian raised an eyebrow at the girl's words, softly muttering to himself.

"Davanai did?"

The man seemed to pause for a moment and contemplate the question, finally, he nodded and spoke.

"You've been working very hard recently. I think a trip to the city would be good for you. It will give you a chance to see the world beyond the estate."

A smile instantly came to the girl's face as she heard the man's words and she nodded with excitement.

"Thank you, Father. I'll make sure to continue my training even while we're there."

"I'm sure you will. For your own safety as well, I'll assign two knights to follow you."

Davian replied with a chuckle, understandably concerned about his daughter's safety.

As much as he trusted Davanai's capabilities, he would never take the risk of the girl not having someone with her at all times.

Seraphina understood this and didn't mind. In fact, she was actually glad that she had knights to protect her because she knew just how weak she currently was.

With a satisfied answer, Seraphina left her father's office to inform Davanai about the news.
