Artazon gym, Artazon city, Paldea region.
Daniel was understandably excided today. He hoped to have a huge power up and a proper direction to train his pokemon after leaving this place.
Golduck wasn't with him this time as he wouldn't need any additional protection while visiting a gym. The gym leader could take care of his security better than both his parents pokemon combined.
After entering he was greeted by Brassius, the Artazon gym leader and was immediately taken to a battle court.
"Welcome to the Artazon gym, before we discuss any training, I would like to see you in action."
Brassius did not waste any time. He immediately summoned a sudowoodo on his side.
"Use can use both your pokemon, one at a time to try and defeat my friend here."
Daniel and his pokemon had been growing stronger. His progress had been slow but significant.
Pokemon: Rowlet
Ability: Overgrow
Stage: Rookie
Moves: Tackle, Growl, Leafage, Astonish, Peck, Razor leaf, Foresight
Mastery: Grass 19%, Flying 9%, Normal 10%, Ghost 1%
Pokemon: Rockruff
Ability: Keen eye
Stage: Rookie
Moves: Tackle, Leer, Sand attack, Bite, Howl, Rock throw, Odor sleuth
Mastery: Rock 16%, Normal 12%, Ground 1%, Dark 1%
Both of them had learnt ghost detection moves. These moves were learnt by themselves as they grew stronger. Rowlet has learnt razor leaf which came with a small increase in grass mastery.
He checked out his opponent.
Pokemon: Sudowoodo
Ability: Sturdy
Tera type: Grass
Stage: Rookie
Mastery: Rock 28%, Grass 26%, Normal 13%, Fighting 10%
Daniel was shocked that he was facing a rookie pokemon a 2v1. He was vigilant since he did not want to underestimate a gym leaders pokemon. The new tera type entry was surprising but he was aware of the terastal phenomenon of Paldea.
He sent out rockruff first, hoping to weaken it enough for rowlet to finish it off.
"Rock throw." Daniel took initiative to start off the battle.
"Rock smash."
Sudwoodo gathered fighting energy in its hand it started destroying any rock flying towards it.
"Keep going." Daniel hoped that sudowoodo consumed a lot of energy to make things easier for rowlet.
Brassius simply smiled at the tactic. "It's time for you to see some art, this piece is one of my personal favorites." He revealed an object that looked like a black colored pokeball with a black gem in place of its button. "I call it 'trulewoodo'." He threw the tera orb over sudowoodo who was suddenly covered in white crystals that broke to reveal a crystalized sudowoodo with a hat with crystalized flowers on it. "Trailblaze."
Sudowoodo's hand was covered in grass energy and it started running towards rockruff. Rockruff used rock throw again but sudowoodo's body suddenly bent, avoiding the rocks. He then attacked rockruff who was almost instantly knocked out.
Daniel was shocked by Brassius's use of terastalization. "Leer"
"Trailblaze."
Rockruff lowered sudowoodo's defence before getting knocked out.
Daniel called rowlet next.
"Peck" Daniel called for the now supereffective move.
"Dodge it and use rock tomb"
Rowlet charged at sudowoodo with his beak coated in flying energy. Peck almost landed on sudowoodo but he simply retreated and used its move. As rowlet persued he found himself surrounded with rocks. The rocks closed into rowlet dealing massive damage.
Daniel knew rowlet wouldn't last long now so he called for razor leaf, hoping to chip away sudowoodo's health to a point where it would be enough damage to knock sudowoodo out. However, Brassius had different plans.
"Trailbalze"
Sudowoodo sidestepped, avoiding the attack and closing distance with its increased speed.
"Follow up with peck"
Sudowoodo bent its body, easily avoiding the slowed down rowlet with its improved speed. It then attacked rowlet with the grass move that didn't damage rowlet much, but was enough to deplete rowlet's remaining health.
Daniel had lost the 2v1 and his first trainer battle.
