Rumble …
A low rumble came from underground. Lin seemed to have heard it somewhere before, but she decided to ignore it for now. She was more interested in the Vine Fern Forest.
The Crushers used their cones to knock away the Vine Ferns as they slowly moved through the forest.
The forest was humid and humid, and the chirping of small creatures could be heard. The vine ferns were more than 30 centimeters thick, and they were very long. They grew more than 10 meters above the sand, and because they were quite dense, Lin used the Disintegrators to study them. They used their horns to break apart the dense ferns as they moved forward.
The Flyer flew above the Vine Fern Forest and led the way for the Crushers. The place Lin wanted to go was deeper in the desert, where the tallest Vine Ferns were around 15 meters tall. However, in this place that was closer to the Twisted Jungle, the Vine Ferns were only around 10 meters tall.
Lin speculated that there was something hidden under the desert. With the large amount of water, the Vine Ferns grew explosively. Their seeds might have been hidden here for a long time.
Speaking of which, seeds were a powerful evolution. Plants evolved to protect their young. Their outer shell was usually very hard, and the cells inside could be stored for a long time, usually hundreds of years.
Lin originally thought that only Twisted Trees had such tough seeds that could survive for a long time, but it turned out that ferns could have them too.
Although the Vine Ferns were brittle and fragile, they had a powerful characteristic. They would extend their appendages to wrap around the broken parts and then slowly decompose and absorb them without wasting any.
Compared to animals, plants had simpler cells and fewer types. However, they were very good at survival and competition. This made Lin feel that the more complex they were, the stronger they were. Even if they were simple, they could easily compete with complex ones.
The leader of the Disintegrators walked for a while before Lin reached a deeper part of the Vine Fern thicket. Large Vine Ferns grew here, and the Disintegrators began to dig at the roots of some of the largest Vine Ferns.
The roots of the Vine Ferns seemed to be buried quite deep. The Crushers dug quickly, but Lin had them dig more than five meters deep. It was still impossible to determine how deep the Vine Ferns were. Their roots were deeply embedded in the sand, and they seemed to be entangled.
Lin used a new method to have the Flyer inject some tiny explorers into the Vine Fern's skin to observe the activity of the Vine Fern's cells.
The Explorer swam inside the Vine Fern and observed the cells inside. As soon as it entered, it was attacked by a large number of immune reactions. Some of the cells produced a large amount of toxins, but this was useless against the Explorer. Lin could slowly study the cells inside.
… It seemed rather peculiar.
Lin noticed that the Vine Fern's cells were very strange. They were very different from the cells of normal animals and plants. However, the Vine Fern didn't look like a plant, but a part of it looked very much like an animal.
The speed at which it transported nutrients was quite fast, and the speed at which it split was also very fast. This was probably one of the reasons for its rapid growth.
However, although the Vine Fern's cells were strange, there were still as few types of cells as plants. It felt like the Vine Fern was a very special creature.
Perhaps further research was needed to see how they grew. For them to be able to grow so much in such a short period of time, there had to be some special method. Lin also wanted to grasp this method, as it would definitely be helpful in the future.
If that was the case, he would have to obtain the Vine Fern's seed in order to observe its growth.
It seemed that he still had to continue digging.
However, just as Lin was about to continue, she suddenly felt the ground shake again …
This feeling … was indeed very familiar.
Lin was about to listen carefully, but her hearing was quickly replaced by another sound.
It was a loud roar, as if it was the cry of a creature with a developed vocal sac.
These fast-growing Vine Ferns attracted many creatures, but most of them were small creatures less than half a meter long. However, this sound seemed to represent a large creature, and it was … approaching!
Lin saw from the vision of a Crusher that was digging at the edge of the group that the Vine Fern in front of it suddenly trembled. A pair of meter-long jaws full of sawtooth suddenly rushed out and clamped down on the Crusher's head in an instant.
Then, the jaws pulled the Crusher back, but at this time, the Crusher's horn had already popped out and hit the sawtooth on the inside of the jaws.
Crack!
Cracks appeared on the sawtooth, and the jaws immediately loosened and retracted back into the Vine Fern.
The Crushers continued their pursuit, and Lin ordered them to quickly break through the Vine Fern in front of them and charge towards the place where the jaws had retracted.
After running for about ten meters, Lin found that she had reached a relatively open area. The Vine Fern here had been cut flat, and in the center of the open area was the creature that had attacked her earlier.
Lin was quite familiar with this' Sawscythe Beetle '. She had seen it many times in the Twisted Jungle. It was a large beetle with a pair of long jaws, and its body was about three meters long. It seemed to have dug an open area for itself here, perhaps to occupy a territory or something.
Facing so many Crushers, the Sawscythe Beetle seemed to be afraid. It retreated while opening its hard shell, revealing four wings below, and then began to flee into the sky.
Forget it, forget about it.
Lin was about to order the Crushers to turn around and leave when another 'boom' came from the ground! This time, the sound was very close!
Right, this is …
The ground in the open area instantly cracked open, and an incomparably large creature rushed out from the ground, bringing along sand and broken Vine Fern. It bit the Sawscythe Beetle in the air and dragged it back to the ground.
This trembling sound was indeed … the Deepsand Bus!
After a period of time during winter, the few Aztecs that were observing the Aztecs froze to death. The same went for the ones inside the Deepsand Bastille. Therefore, Lin hadn't been paying attention to the Aztecs for a long time.
Only half of the Deepsand Bus' body was above the ground, and it was about seventeen meters long. Its scorpion body was seven meters wide, and Lin estimated that its overall length was more than twenty-six meters.
It might not be the one that had attacked Bechymos …
The Deepsand Bus bit the Sawscythe Beetle in its mouth and chewed it. After a series of crisp sounds of cracking shells, it swallowed the Sawscythe Beetle. Then, it turned its gaze towards the Crushers.
It seemed a little difficult. The Deepsand Bus was a very troublesome creature. It was large in size, extremely fast in movement, and could burrow underground. It would be difficult for the Crushers to defeat such an opponent.
But even so, Lin did not intend to order the Crushers to retreat. Instead, she ordered them to stand in a line and charge at the target directly.
Seeing this, the Deepsand Bus let out a roar, but it retracted back into the ground, leaving only a big hole in the ground.
Should I go into the hole and chase after it? Lin hesitated for a moment. Then, the sound of an earthquake was heard again.
Boom!
The Deepsand Bus suddenly burrowed out from the ground amidst the Crushers. The impact of its burrowing sent more than ten Crushers flying more than ten meters into the air, before they fell heavily to the ground.
Then, the Deepsand Bus quickly retreated back into the ground, as though it had burrowed deep into the ground. Lin could not even sense its movements …
What a troublesome opponent.
The Crushers that fell to the ground had their internal cells severely damaged. Lin needed to quickly restore their internal structures. Then, she ordered the Crushers to disperse and retreat within the Vine Fern Forest.
Lin could only hear the Deepsand Bus when it was close enough to launch a sneak attack. She did not know why. Could it be that it had some method of silencing its sound?
Lin was also curious about the origin of the Deepsand Bus. Was it here to hunt? Or to attack? It was daytime, but it did not seem to be afraid. But it was true that it did not release any Aztec worms to attack.
Could it be that only Aztec worms were afraid of light, while the Deepsand Bus was not?
No matter what, Lin had to catch one to study.
Bechymos was flying towards here. Bechymos usually flew at a height of a thousand meters above the Flickering Woodland. It would take a long time to reach here.
The Deepsand Bus began to vibrate again. It seemed to be following one of the Disintegrators. Since the Disintegrators had split up, the Deepsand Bus could only chase after one of them. Coincidentally, the Disintegrator was running back to the Shining Forest.
Was it going to follow them to the Flickering Woodland?
With that thought in mind, Lin immediately ordered the Crusher to stop. The moment it stopped, the ground in front of the Crusher suddenly cracked open. A pair of huge jaws came biting down on the Deepsand Bus.
But just as the Deepsand Bus bit down on the Crusher, a huge shadow suddenly appeared in the sky. Bechymos had finally arrived.
The Deepsand Bus bit down on the Crusher and quickly retreated. But Bechymos shot out a long string with a barb from its head at an even faster speed. Before the Deepsand Bus could escape into the ground, the string hooked onto the scales on the back of the Deepsand Bus.
This' string 'that was pulling the Deepsand Bus was a mixture of various strong and resilient cells and a small amount of chitin. It had an extremely strong pulling force. Lin had researched this thing a long time ago to use it to grab the Deepsand Bus.
The Deepsand Bus dived into the sand. When it discovered that it could no longer sink any further, it began to twist its body and struggle. Meanwhile, Bechymos stretched out even more tentacles to tighten the string, then began to ascend with all its might into the air!
The ground below was constantly trembling. This Deepsand Bus was smaller than the previous one, so its strength was also much weaker than Bechymos'. But it still used all its strength to drill down, not wanting to be pulled out of the sand.
Bechymos exerted all its propulsion force and began to swell its body to increase its buoyancy. Under the powerful pulling force, countless cracks appeared on the ground. Finally, with a loud boom, the huge sand monster was finally pulled into the air by Lin! (To be continued.) Mobile users, please click here to read.)
