Chương 35: Chapter 35

After eating the second leaf beetle, Lin had obtained enough nutrients to resurrect the round shield worm.

Lin came up with a 'streamlined' multicellular structure that was rounded at the front and pointed at the back. This structure could swim faster in the water. Lin called it a 'transporter'. Its main purpose was to transport a large number of fat cells back to the round shield worm's location because it did not want to go back. It wanted to continue eating more leaf-shaped worms.

Lin assembled ten transporters. Each transporter was made up of more than a hundred thousand cells. There was a circle of flat and long tentacles swimming in the middle of their bodies. After storing the fat cells in the hollow, they swam back to the ice cave.

Then, Lin set her eyes on a leaf beetle not far away.

The food that doesn't move is amazing.

Lin happily swung the carrier's tentacles. When she was about to swim, she suddenly felt that something was wrong. Some of the cells on her skin had disappeared, but Lin did not feel any pain.

She died without feeling any pain? How strange …

Lin released the Devourer from the carrier to investigate where the feeling disappeared. It was probably attacked. Lin only knew that it should be the back of the carrier near the water spout.

The carrier's body was too big. It contained hundreds of millions of cells. The two eyeball tentacles at the front could not fully observe the entire body. The hardening of the skin had also dulled the senses on the surface of the body. Although there were two small tentacles dedicated to sensing water flow, they could not observe the whole body like the eyes.

The Devourer swam along the carrier's skin to the back of the carrier and immediately saw the cause of the incident. On the skin near the water spout, there was a strange creature. The creature's body looked like a combination of five thick and flat tentacles. It was attached to the carrier's skin. Lin could feel that the skin cells it was attached to were disappearing.

'Starfish'.

Lin did not come up with this name. It came up in her mind. Lin felt that it was quite suitable for this creature.

Was this starfish eating the skin cells? But why didn't Lin feel any pain?

Perhaps this creature had a way to prevent her cells from feeling any pain, thus achieving its goal of 'stealing', but Lin could still feel her cells disappearing, so it could be said that this creature's plan had failed.

With that in mind, Lin released a large number of Devourers and ordered them to attack.

This' starfish 'was about ten times the size of a large Devourer. On the surface, it looked soft and had tentacles that could move freely. This meant that it did not have a hard shell and should be easy to deal with.

The Devourers bit onto the five tentacles of the starfish and retreated with all their might, hoping to pull the starfish off its skin.

However, the starfish stuck close to the aircraft carrier. No matter how hard the Devourers tried, they could not pull it down. The cone-shaped cells in the Devourers' mouths could not even scratch its skin.

The outer skin of the starfish looked soft and movable, but in fact, the surface of the skin was very hard. It seemed that the 'flexibility' of the starfish was very strong, and there were many small spikes on the skin, which undoubtedly increased the difficulty of the Devourer to bite it.

Such a troublesome thing.

If it weren't for the fact that Lin's hammer-shaped tentacles couldn't reach that spot, it would have been easy for her to smash it.

However, Lin had more than one type of Devourer. Originally, the cone-shaped cells in the Devourers' mouths were single cells and did not have many combinations, which allowed them to effectively crush other cells.

Ever since the round shield worm incident, Lin had increased the number of large Devourers in preparation to deal with other multicellular creatures. Some of the Devourers had also been specially modified. Lin had formed many curved, hardened structures in their mouths, which were called 'giant fangs'. The fangs in the Devourers' mouths were much larger than the previous ones, so they were not suitable for crushing single cells. However, they were very suitable for dealing with multicellular creatures.

Lin ordered the ordinary Devourers to step aside and let the Gigantfang Devourer attack the starfish. The Gigantfang Devourer bit down on the starfish's tentacles. Under the pressure of its muscles, the Gigantfang Devourer's huge fangs pierced into the starfish's tentacles. Lin immediately ordered the Gigantfang Devourer to loosen its bite. A large amount of the starfish's cells gushed out from the wound.

Lin ordered the Devourers to quickly clean up the cells, then rushed towards the starfish's wound and tore apart its exposed soft internal structure.

The starfish no longer clung to the aircraft carrier and remained motionless. Its injured tentacle had been severed from its body. The starfish, which only had four tentacles left, shook its body and detached itself from the aircraft carrier's skin. It then swam away on a stream of water.

Severed part of its body and ran away with its main body? That's too naive.

What is naive? Although the term was inexplicable, it did not stop Lin from ordering the Devourers to chase after the starfish and tear it into pieces.

After the starfish left, Lin looked at her injured skin. The part where the starfish was clinging to was missing a large piece, as if it had been bitten off. How was it able to create such a wound without causing the starfish to feel any pain? It seems that there is a need to study this starfish.

Although it was torn apart, its key parts were still intact, so it could still be studied. Lin noticed that there were a large number of small tentacles under the creature's tentacles. The ends of these tentacles were hollow semi-circles. It seemed that it used these things to stick to the aircraft carrier's skin.

Are these the suction cups? They seem to be able to produce a lot of force, so much so that Lin's group of Devourers could not tear it off its skin.

There was a layer of hard shell under the starfish's skin. It was a non-cellular structure similar to the shell of the round shield worm, but it was softer.

However, what Lin was most concerned about was the starfish's mouth. It should be a hole in the center of its five tentacles. There were spike-like structures around the hole, similar to the round shield worm's mouth. But most importantly, there was a small hole at the end of these spikes. Lin squeezed her cells into the small hole to explore and found that the hole was connected to an area inside the starfish's body that looked like a pouch.

This pouch was made up of yellow cells that secreted a liquid. When this liquid came into contact with the cells, it would cause the cells to enter a strange state. They would become immobile and lose all sensation.

Not all of the starfish's teeth had holes connected to the pouch. Some of the teeth did not have any holes. They were probably used purely to dig out the senseless cells for consumption.

This was a rather powerful structure. Using spikes to poke open an opponent's skin and then injecting a destructive liquid? Lin seemed to have seen some cells with this ability before, but why didn't she think of making a similar multi-cell combination?

Although the acid-injector evolved from cone-shaped cells, its spout was not hard or sharp, so Lin might not have thought of this ability.

But now Lin understood that she could make a similar combination.

Besides, the starfish's body also had a blood vessel structure, but Lin could not find the heart. Perhaps it was chewed up by the Devourers. The blood vessels themselves and the cells inside did not have the ability to carry water. The starfish should have a heart.

However, Lin found something very similar to a heart. It was made up of a bunch of different cells. These cells were elongated and had many tentacles on them. These cells gathered together to form a small oval object that was connected by tubes that covered the entire body like blood vessels.

However, these tubes did not carry nutrients, there was nothing in them, and the oval object in the center did not move at all. What was it for?

'Ganglion'? This word popped up in Lin's mind. Although she did not understand it, Lin had a feeling that this was something useless to her.

Other than that, there were also some strange combinations. For example, there was a pouch that contained a large number of round white cells. This pouch had a hollow tentacle connected to the outside of the skin, which seemed to be used to eject these cells. There were also some net-like structures that consisted of a large number of small tentacles combined together. The structure of the thick hollow tentacles was very complicated.

Lin did not know what most of the structures were used for. She did not expect this small starfish to be so much more complicated than the large leaf-shaped worms. Lin guessed that the round-shield worm was also a very complicated creature, but unfortunately, it was destroyed by the virus.

However, Lin did not care that much. The most important thing was that she could defeat them.

Lin only absorbed useful knowledge. She did not care about the things that she did not understand and just ate them all.

While Lin was studying the starfish, the 'transporters' had already transported the fat cells to the round-shield worm's location and were now beginning the resurrection work.

Lin believed that it would not take long for it to evolve to the top again.
