Chương 16: Chapter 16

Lin's plan was to continue occupying this rock and monopolize all of the food crevices, but the sudden flow of water had cut off that thought.

Water, Lin's understanding of it was that it was something that could be found all over the world. Only with water could her cells move. Water had always been very peaceful, but sometimes it would turn into deadly ice crystals in an instant, sometimes it would become violent and terrifying like this.

A torrent swept past at high speed, sweeping across the entire rock area. Countless cells were instantly swept up by this torrent, disappearing without a trace in the blink of an eye.

Lin had most of the cells hide behind a few taller rocks. The Diggers and Cone Cells also used their serrated teeth to secure themselves in the crevices, but even this couldn't stop the colony from losing a lot of members.

Another rapid flow of water swept past, sweeping away a large number of cells and instantly out of Lin's sight.

She had lost over 3,000 cells.

Lin silently counted the number. The cells that were swept away hadn't actually left Lin's thoughts, Lin could still sense them, but whenever Lin had them swim back, they would be swept further and further away by the current. After a few times, Lin felt that there was almost no hope for them to swim back.

Lin didn't know why the flow of water had become like this, just like she didn't know why the water suddenly froze. Even though the colony had grown a lot, Lin still didn't understand many things. Facing the violent flow of water, Lin didn't even have a chance to resist and could only endure.

This rapid flow of water wasn't continuous, but rather intermittent, one wave after another without any pattern, making it very difficult for Lin to accurately calculate the timing.

Another wave of water swept away a large number of cells, Lin didn't want to stay here and wait for death. Who knew how long this flow of water would last? If this continued, Lin would lose at least 90% of her colony, leaving the rest to hide behind rocks.

The few remaining cells at the back wouldn't die if they were swept away, but once they were scattered, they would easily be attacked by viruses or other cells. Even with Lin's thoughts, they wouldn't get lost, but Lin didn't know how long it would take for them to swim back.

Come.

And so, Lin began to move. However, she didn't want to fight against the flow of water, instead, she wanted to go deeper, to a place where the flow of water couldn't affect her.

Lin needed to hide behind a rock.

But no matter what kind of cell it was, they couldn't dig through solid rock, so Lin had only one way to hide behind a rock.

It was through the opening where the hot water was spraying out.

The crack was large enough to hold dozens of cells. Lin had observed it before and found that the crack in the hot spring was wider the further down it went. Lin estimated that there might be a huge space inside.

The hot spring actually came from some small cracks on the walls of the Xiekou acupoint. As long as it went deeper, the water would definitely not be as hot anymore.

In this way, the only problem left was how to get through the hot spring at the beginning.

As soon as the next wave of water flowed through, Lin immediately gathered a large number of cells and swam towards the opening of the hot spring, trying to enter before the next wave of water flowed through. Lin had already taken precautions against this opening of the hot spring.

Lin had the large Storages form a shield in front of her to block the hot spring that was rushing up, while she led the cells behind her into the depths.

The impact of the hot spring was much smaller than the flow of water outside. Even with the hot spring, they could easily move forward, not to mention that the hot spring was intermittent.

Lin had already trained these Storages' resistance to high heat. Although they would still die after being washed away for a long time, even if they did die from the heat, Lin would have the cone-shaped cells pick up their corpses and continue to use them as a heat-resistant shield. Using this method, Lin successfully led a large number of cells into the hot spring.

The deeper they went, just as Lin expected, the more spacious the space became. From the beginning, it could only hold a few dozen cells, but now it could hold over several thousand. Lin felt that once she reached the bottom, she would have no problem letting her entire community in.

Furthermore, at this depth, there were no longer any cracks in the cave walls that were spraying out the hot spring, and the water temperature here had also returned to normal.

Lin seemed to be particularly lucky. Ever since she entered the crack, the next wave of water had yet to pass through, so most of her cells were safe.

While Lin was thinking that, a violent flow of water suddenly washed over the rocks again, washing away many of Lin's cells that were still outside the crack.

However, Lin had now entered over 70% of her community, so there weren't many left outside.

Lin noticed that her community had also begun to approach the bottom of the crack. This place was very spacious, probably like a large cave.

But there was a problem …

It was very dark.

Lin attempted to rely on the sparse amount of light shining down from the entrance to determine how spacious this place was, but she was unable to get any more detailed information.

If she left the bottom of the crack where the light shone down, she would only find herself in endless darkness.

Should she venture into the darkness? Or should she wait here until the flow of water outside stopped?

Regardless, Lin felt that it was not a good idea.

… Hmm?

Lin suddenly saw a flash of light within the dark cave.

What is that?

Blue dots of light flashed within Lin's field of vision. They were hidden within the darkness, extinguishing in an instant, then lighting up again in an instant. This piqued Lin's curiosity.

Lin had never seen light within the darkness before. She wanted to know what it was, but she was more concerned about whether it was a threat or a safety measure.

Thus, Lin had several of the diggers swim towards the dots of light.

She felt it. From the diggers' sense of touch, Lin found out that the dots of light were emitting fluctuations in the water … are those … living creatures?

However, as the diggers approached the dots of light, the entire cave suddenly lit up!

Light …

Countless dots of light lit up one after another in Lin's field of vision, forming a sea of light as bright as the starry sky, dispelling all the darkness in this place.

Starry sky?

Lin noticed that when she saw this sea of light, she had acquired a new term. It seemed to be a term used to refer to something vast and boundless.

Lin noticed that the sea of light was actually made up of countless dots. These dots were oval-shaped cells. They were only one-fifth the size of Lin's cells, but their bodies were glowing with a wondrous blue light.

With the help of the light, Lin was able to see the entirety of this cave. It was indeed vast and spacious, the size of which was comparable to Lin's territory outside. More importantly, this place was also filled with soft, white food.

However, the food here was not coming from the cracks. Instead, it was like a layer of white paste sticking to the rocks, covering the walls of the cave. There were so many of them throughout the cave.

White paste? That's right, let's call this food white paste.

These glowing cells were all eating the white paste. Due to the abundance of food, they filled almost the entire cave. But even with such a large number, they seemed to be very afraid of Lin. Lin noticed that whenever the diggers approached, the glowing cells around them would immediately run away.

Seems like I've found a decent place. Furthermore, it doesn't seem like there are any powerful enemies here, nor will it be affected by the flow of water. What better place to develop a community than here?

That's right, as long as I kill all these weak things …

Lin turned her gaze towards the large group of glowing cells. With just a thought, a large number of diggers, cone-shaped cells, and acid-injectors would be able to easily destroy these weak cells.

But Lin didn't do anything.

Although they were glowing, if I kill them all, I'll be able to obtain a larger community and a safer territory. Furthermore, Lin might also evolve the ability to glow in this environment, so there's no point in keeping them alive …

Despite thinking that, Lin still didn't do anything as she watched the glowing cells.

… This feeling …
