"Then perhaps…They are planning to heavily defend this city!" Leif said with a serious expression on his face.
As for Helena, her eyes narrowed into slits after hearing Leif's words.
Indeed! If the moat was recently built, then it means that the Kairuku Kingdom was planning to heavily defend the city!
While Helena was thinking about the best course of action to take, the gates of Gonad City suddenly opened and the Kairuku noble in charge of governing the city walked out of the gates with a few subordinates behind him.
"F-Friends from Rougenfort Kingdom! The Kairuku Kingdom has abandoned us! We are willing to hand the city over with no resistance!"
The poor noble stuttered as he willingly surrendered himself and the city to Helena claiming that they were abandoned by the Kairuku Kingdom.
If Leif didn't warn her, Helena might've fallen for this guy's trap. Fortunately, Leif has already been here before and noticed the recently created moat that covered the entire Gonad City.
Thus, Helena decided to have a quick huddle with her four generals, Alex, Leif, Eden, and Emille.
"I don't believe this guy one bit! Here's the plan…"
*WHISPER* *WHISPER*
The noble felt uneasy as Helena and her generals discussed the course of action that they would take.
'Do they know our plan? There should be no chance for them to know…right?' The noble tried his best to maintain a straight face as he waited for Helena's decision.
Fortunately, Helena didn't make him wait for long as she faced him with a wide smile on his face.
"A wise decision! May I know this wise noble's name?" Helena said with a smile on her face, looking extremely pleased.
As for the noble, his worries were swept away after seeing Helena's smiling face. He then looked at her with a smiling face of his own and said:
"T-This lowly one's name is Koler, and please stop calling me a noble. I was a noble in the past but not anymore…"
Koler said as his facial expression switched from happy to betrayed.
'Hmmm…This guy's good at acting huh? Let's see if you can keep acting once we execute our plan…' Helena thought to herself.
"Fret not, Koler, the Rougenfort Kingdom will not mistreat you! Why don't you and your subordinates lead the way toward the castle?" Helena said as she urged Koler to start leading the way.
A dangerous glint temporarily flashed in Koler's eyes as he turned around and led the way enthusiastically.
Naturally, Helena signaled her men to execute their plan as she followed closely behind Koler.
*BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG*
Helena's men easily attached the bridgeways of the seven siege towers they brought with them to the walls of Gonad City.
As for Koler, he was startled by the loud sound of the bridgeways connecting to the city walls so he couldn't help but turn his head to look.
"G-G-Grand Marshal, what is the meaning of this?! Didn't we already surrender?" Koler said with an "alarmed and worried" expression on his face, perfectly continuing his act.
Helena simply looked at him with the same wide smile and replied :
"Hmm? What? The city is ours already, isn't it? So attaching a few siege towers on the city walls should be of no concern to you…"
"Even if I do, this!" *BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!* "It should be of no concern to you, right?"
Helena said as she destroyed the city gates with three full-powered attacks from her enchanted greatsword.
*FWOOSH*
The reinforced wooden city gates started to burn to a crisp and slowly fell as Koler started to panic.
"G-Grand Marshal?! What are you doing? Didn't we already surrender?! Why are you destroying the city walls?!" Koler said with an indignant expression on his face.
Naturally, Helena couldn't care less about his act and simply urged him to continue leading the way.
"Why? What are you gonna do? The city is ours already and we wanted to replace this fragile reinforced wooden gate with something better so of course I had to destroy it."
"Now, just continue to lead the way to the castle, Koler…" Helena said, with a wide smile still plastered on her face.
Her smile suddenly became the smile of a demon in Koler's eyes upon realizing that Helena was just pretending to fall for his trap.
'Shit! At this rate, they will easily conquer the city! The plan backfired!' Koler thought to himself, extremely anxious and panicked.
They planned to lure Helena and a few other military leaders inside the city and close the gates, then, the Swordmasters of the Timberwolf Mercenary Group would gang up on Helena and the others while her soldiers struggle to break through the moat, climb the walls, and breach the city walls in an attempt to save them.
In their minds, the soldiers would try to force their attacks in a panic to try and save their military leaders resulting in devastating losses.
Unfortunately for them, Helena and the other generals easily saw through their trap so she immediately ordered her men to attach the bridgeways of the siege towers on the city walls.
She then personally destroyed the city gates so that even if the opponents tried anything funny while she and the other military leaders were inside the city, the soldiers could easily swarm the city and help them.
Now, it's too late for them to try and defend the city heavily even if they wanted to since the soldiers were already inside the siege towers ready to swarm the city at the first sign of hostility.
