Chương 61: Exploring Deep into the Forest of Echoes

The Forest of Echoes is an undeniably dangerous forest. However, the forest also gave Blanc a chance to forge his own destiny.

Without the advantages that they got from exploring the Forest of Echoes, there was no way they could have made it through the battle against the northern nobles of the Terravalle Kingdom.

In just two years, they could barely be even called a town. The military strength, the population, the economy.

Every aspect of their town is almost identical to those of a city.

All of this is because even though there is death in the Forest of Echoes, there is also life.

This forest has given them everything they needed to survive and flourish.

If they want to keep growing, they have to continuously brave the dangers of the forest and seek out opportunities for themselves.

Today, Blanc and Helena are making the final preparations for a deep exploration of the Forest of Echoes.

Their town is slowly capturing the attention of other kingdoms. They had to grow faster because eventually, these kingdoms would send their envoys to scout out their town.

This is also the reason why Blanc still doesn't want to call their town a city yet even though it has the qualifications to be one.

After knowing that a "city" has emerged in the gloomy plains, the kingdoms will surely start to notice his ambitions and the greedy ones will start to make a move on them.

The men who were handpicked by Helena to join the expedition numbered around seven hundred.

There were around five hundred infantry elites together with around two hundred of their most elite archers.

A force this strong is enough to wipe out the territory of a low-ranking noble from another kingdom.

But today, these seven hundred elites will accompany Helena and the battalion commanders deep inside the Forest of Echoes.

Everyone knows that the Forest is dangerous. Although they were elites, they still had a high chance of dying inside the forest.

But they are prepared, they have resolved themselves to die in exchange for advantages that will let their loved ones have a peaceful life.

They know that if they refuse to do this, the town will eventually get destroyed by invaders.

They wouldn't let that happen.

After a few more hours, all preparations were finally done.

It was almost nighttime, but this shouldn't affect their plans at all.

They know the outskirts of the forest like the back of their hand and the real challenge will only begin once they've arrived at the unexplored areas.

"Helena, again, please prioritize yourselves. If you think that it is too dangerous to continue, do not force it okay?"

"Okay! Don't worry! Leave this to me!"

Blanc reminded Helena repeatedly. He knows Helena and she can go a bit overboard sometimes.

Still, after a few more reminders, Blanc sent them off and wished them good luck.

Their seven-hundred elite army looked majestic as they marched deeper into the forest.

None of these elites are pushovers, these guys are all veterans and they're all not scared of death. They know what they're fighting for and they're ready to exchange their lives for it.

After a few days of marching, they finally reached an unexplored area.

"Men! Stay vigilant! We are now in unexplored territory. Keep your guard up and be ready for battle at all times."

"Yes!...General!"

Although they weren't nervous, they were on alert. They were feeling ominous vibes from the current area that they were exploring.

*HAAARRRGHH! HARRRGHH!*

After two hours of vigilant marching, they finally encountered another group of weird creatures.

They looked like savage wolves but the difference is, they were standing on two legs.

Although they were a bit shorter than humans, they had decent physiques and they seemed to be intelligent. In fact, they looked more intelligent than goblins.

These "standing wolves" used spears as weapons and although a bit crude, they were wearing a complete set of leather armor.

Kobolds!

"What the hell are these little shits?" Helena muttered to herself.

Her eyes narrowed into slits as she observed the creatures.

She was shocked upon seeing the kobolds communicating and they were assuming some sort of formation to corner all of them.

Initially, there were only around three hundred kobolds. But now, there were at least 2500 of them.

"Men! Calm down, these guys look weak. They will probably try to overwhelm us with numbers but they shouldn't be able to fight us in a one-on-one battle."

"As long as we take them down one at a time while retreating, I expect these little fuckers to give up on us."

"There's no need to waste our energies fighting these guys, they look so poor so I don't think we're going to get anything from these guys anyway."

Helena's men started retreating from the creatures in an orderly manner.

After slaying a few kobolds, it seemed that the retreat was going smoothly. A little while later, they realized that they were wrong.

These kobolds are actually letting them retreat in the direction where another large group of kobolds are stationed.

"Fuck! Why are these mutts so smart?!"

Helena cursed as she realized that they were now cornered in the middle of at least four thousand kobolds.

Left with no choice, Helena tried to negotiate with the kobolds.

"Mutts! Where is your leader? We do not wish to fight you! Just let us go and I shall not slaughter all of you! We apologize if we somehow trespassed into your territory."

Helena's men almost laughed at her words. How would these kobolds talk peace with Helena if she insults them while requesting for peace?!

Unfortunately for her, these kobolds only see them as a food source so they were not planning on negotiating at all. Furthermore, they couldn't even understand each other.

A few moments later, a kobold who was visibly taller than the others started barking wildly. It seems to be giving out orders.

This tall kobold seems to be the leader.

A little while later, all of the kobolds started howling as they charged at Helena and her seven hundred men.

Helena gritted her teeth in anger.

"You! Why don't you understand? How stupid can you be! You guys better not regret this! I'll slaughter all of you!"

"Men! Formations! Infantry, form a defensive circle! Archers, shoot these little bastards from inside the defensive circle!"

"Battalion commanders! Come with me! We'll slaughter these arrogant little fucks!"
