Blanc entered the Resonance chamber of commerce's temporary headquarters.
Adelaine was currently checking the products that they bought from the Petaldream chamber of commerce.
"Adelaine, how's your trip this time?"
Blanc inquired.
"Hmm? Oh! Big bro! Sorry I didn't notice you there."
"The journey back here was a nightmare! The smelting furnaces were so heavy and we got delayed for over 2 weeks because of it!
Adelaine complained.
"Is that so? It must have been hard for you. Sorry for making you go through that trouble. Thank you, you did a great job."
"Hehehe no problem big bro!"
"Oh by the way, I managed to buy around 400 new books for you. I stacked them all on two large horse carts parked at the back. You can check them later.
"I also bought lots of cement. I took half of my orders back with me and the other half will be delivered here in a month and a half.
Adelaine said.
"I see…Great job! Now we can start the construction of stone buildings. In addition, we can research this cement and start to produce our own since carrying heavy sacks of cement back and forth is too inconvenient."
"How about papers?"
Blanc asked.
"Oh! I managed to buy a looooot! I had three large horse carts full of writing paper."
"Other than those three, I also got the other stuff that you needed. They're all in the large horse carts in the back."
Adelaine replied.
"I see…I'll check the other items later. Did you encounter any bandit attacks on the way?"
"Nope! But there were some strange people who started following us.
We met them when we were passing by at a village in the Kingdom of Terravalle."
"They stopped following us though once we were near the Forest of Echoes."
"Hmm… I see… Good thing you observed them diligently! Seems like there will be some more "visitors" in the next coming months."
"You should rest early today since tomorrow will most likely be a busy day."
"Okay! I will rest early today. Thanks big bro!"
After the conversation with Adelaine, Blanc exited the temporary headquarters and headed at the back to check the contents of the horse carts.
Upon confirming that they now have everything they needed for the next phase of their plan, Blanc left happily and went back to his own hut to rest early.
This night was particularly lively.
Laughter and words of gratitude can be heard from the new citizens as new clothes were distributed to everyone.
After properly settling down, they were all invited to the town kitchen to claim their food.
Delicious!
All the recruiters' promises were indeed true. The new settlers were happy to have made the right decision.
In their past settlements, they were worried if they would be able to eat each day.
In addition, although they had huts similar to the ones they have here, they were mostly full of holes and weren't very effective in blocking the wind and rain.
Tonight, they will be able to sleep in a warm bed with pillows and blankets.
A few more hours passed and everyone fell asleep.
Tomorrow is a big day for all of them.
Time quickly passed and morning came.
The area in front of the town hall is bustling.
There are long queues in front of the town hall because the new citizens queued up to register their names in the town hall registry.
"Damn! I underestimated the workload!"
Blanc cursed as he continued writing citizen credentials along with Adelaine and three of her staff members.
With just the five of them, they were trying to register 600 new individuals.
"Tsk! We won't be able to finish like this!"
"Adelaine, can you please go out and occupy a table outside? Although the process is backwards, we need to recruit town hall staff first to help us out."
Adelaine quickly complied and started her recruitment outside.
Beside her, there were other tables with representatives for other occupations such as the carpenters, the farmers, the chefs, the warriors, the alchemists, and the craftsmen.
Those who were already done with their citizenship registration are now checking the benefits of choosing each of the career paths.
Most men tried to apply as warriors.
Helena has a strict requirement though, so not all of them passed.
You have to be at least 5 foot 9 inches tall and around 70 to 80 kilograms before being chosen.
The warriors had the highest pay out of all the jobs.
That is also part of the reason why most able bodied men chose to be warriors.
On the other hand, others chose their jobs based on their specialty.
Out of all the jobs, the alchemists had the least number of applicants since there is still an entrance exam before qualifying as an apprentice.
It doesn't mean there are no applicants though as there are quite a few nerdy looking citizens who were applying.
After a while, a few applicants applied to be town hall staff.
Although the town hall is severely understaffed, Adelaine still did a pretty strict screening of the applicants.
Some people were too illiterate to be accepted for the job but most of them passed.
Time passed by and the number of accepted employees increased.
Blanc's workload lightened by quite a lot as 30 new members started helping him as soon as they were hired.
By the end of the day, all 600 citizens were registered and 520 of them were part of the workforce.
The 520 individuals who were part of the workforce has successfully chosen their own professions.
It was pretty close to evening when everyone finished registration and job application so Blanc announced that everyone should rest early for today.
Everyone will start their job tomorrow and they shall be paid in silver coins after every 15 days.
