Alex was in his shack, sitting cross-legged. The night had fallen in this world, and he gazed up at the moon.
"It's much bigger than Earth's moon, but why does it still feel strange to me?" He shook his head, refocusing his thoughts on cultivating.
"Alright, now I need to figure out how to use my new technique." Being someone who had never cultivated before, Alex had no clear idea of how techniques worked. The only reason he had managed to use the attack techniques was that he felt some kind of aura inside him, like a peculiar cloud he could manipulate. He had simply directed it towards his body or released it as an aura.
However, the Divination Technique seemed to lack that cloud-like presence.
"Hmm?" Alex's attention was suddenly diverted. He felt that something was off.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
There was a knock on the door.
"What...?"
"GAH... GAH... GAH..." Alex suddenly opened his eyes, his expression changing.
"What was thaaaahhgggg... Wh-... What..." He glanced at his hands, which were trembling. He felt as if all his energy had been drained, as if someone had sucked the life out of him.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
The knocking continued.
Feeling extremely drowsy, Alex opened the door.
"Oh, it's Junior Brother Cha—" He was about to make a jest, but he immediately noticed Chang Li's condition. Even though they were servant disciples, Alex couldn't help but be concerned seeing Chang Li's bloodied state.
"Greetings, Senior Brother Li," Chang Li greeted, trying to maintain his usual smile despite his condition.
"Who did this to you, Junior Brother?" Alex's voice grew cold as he asked. While he didn't feel any strong bond with this Junior Brother, he had saved his life and hadn't received a proper thanks for it yet.
"Hahaha, I was just practicing, Senior Brother. I came to discuss which technique you're planning to choose. Can I come in?" Chang Li smiled and swiftly changed the subject.
Alex managed a smile and replied, "Yes, of course." He opened the door to let Chang Li in.

Three hours later.
"You... Kn...ow wha...t, Senior Brother? That Junior Sister is really... beautiful," Chang Li's speech was slurred as he drunkenly slumped onto the table.
Alex observed his condition while still somewhat sober. He shifted his body, intending to help Chang Li lie down on the bed. However, something caught his attention.
"These injuries... I see, I see, I see... They're from the Mountain Shatter Technique," Alex's gaze turned cold as he realized the technique used to injure Chang Li.
"No, this technique might be common among Outer Disciples. I need to investigate this further."
He gently placed Chang Li on the bed before lying down on the floor himself.

The next day.
Alex found himself in the technique library. This was an accessible place where everyone could enter. It resembled a regular library, except it was filled with techniques neatly arranged on shelves.
Servant disciples were allowed to browse and learn techniques from here. They could even redeem some of the most powerful techniques that core disciples were taught, as long as they had enough contribution points.
"I see..." Alex skimmed through the entire section for Outer Disciple techniques and noticed that the Mountain Shatter Fist was the most expensive one here.
"It's confirmed then..." He walked out of the library with a cold expression.
He was on his way to the blacksmith shop to buy a few things.

Night fell.
"Damn it!!! DO IT BETTER, WOMAN!!!" Shouts echoed from one of the buildings in the Outer Section of the sect.
Darkness had enveloped the area, and only a few buildings had lights. Most of them were unlit, casting shadows everywhere.
Liang Chen glared at a girl of around 15 or 16 years old who was kneeling before him. He kicked her in frustration.
"Fuck!!! YOU'RE SO USELESS!!!" He yelled, then turned to drown his frustration with alcohol.
"Please, I'm sorry, Master!!! I'll do better," the servant girl sobbed as she bowed.
"DAMN YOU, ZHI LI!!!" Liang Chen's life had been nothing but a living hell since the training. He had been disrespected everywhere, and even people who used to grovel at his feet now looked at him with disdain.
"And that bastard Wang Xinyi told me not to do anything!!! How can I endure this?!" He was furious, his mind tormented by the fact that he had been told to wait after doing all the dirty work for his inner disciple backer.
"I did all those underhanded tasks for him, but what do I get? NOTHING!!!"
BANG!!
He kicked the servant girl even harder.
Suddenly, a strange drowsiness overcame him...
"What's... happening? No, the poison!!!" His eyes widened in realization.
He rushed towards the exit of his building, but his foot got caught on something.
Ping!
"Wh... AGGHHGGGHHH!!!" Liang Chen attempted to scream, but his voice was weak and barely audible.
"What's... happening..." He looked down and saw an invisible wire-like metal around his foot. His speed caused his foot to fracture to the bone upon contact with the wire, which had already been severed.
"Water!!!" He felt his throat parched.
With bloodshot eyes, he looked toward a nearby forest where a small lake shimmered.
Long Chen crawled towards the lake.
"Water!!! Water!!!" He plunged his hands into the water to drink, but...
As soon as his hand touched the water's surface, he felt something tugging at it, it was a wire.
Pzzzst!!!
An arrow hurtled towards his head at tremendous speed.
Wide-eyed, Long Chen instinctively pulled himself up, evading the arrow. He attempted to flee northwards to escape the arrow.
Just as he evaded the arrow, he felt a wire beneath his feet.
"No!!!"
BANG!!!
The ground beneath him collapsed.
Liang Chen's life came to a tragic end.

"Well... that was easier than expected," Alex smiled, his surprise evident. He had set up a trap akin to what the military called an 'Underhanded Assassination Technique.' In just two hours, he had crafted it at lightning speed. He didn't anticipate that an actual cultivator would fall for it.
"It's fortunate they have these poisonous herbs here. Better yet, they possess instant-activation herbs. Looks like I'll need to explore poison techniques in the future. Good thing I was worried about resolved itself." In the military, they had used Ricinus Communis to create a powder that would be released as smoke.
Here, they had the required herbs available, even better versions that he could plant and use for their effects.
"Alright, time to skedaddle from this place." Alex swiftly left the area. He also made sure to retrieve all the wires he had set up. They would come in handy in the future.
