As Darius followed in her footsteps, Ashe, who was right in front of him, suddenly came to a halt.
"We're here," announced Ashe. "This is where the weakest monsters are, don't worry you can prepare yourself, I'll defend you."
Darius didn't lose any time as he immediately got ready and held the small knife Ashe had given him. He put himself in a position which he had already trained in his past life.
He was ready for any unexpected attack in that sort of position, as the knife in his hands could move where he wanted without any problem.
"I'm ready," said Darius, looking straight into Ashe's eyes.
Ashe gave him a subtle look and nodded.
"I'll go bring one of the nearby monsters here and, remember if at any point of the fight you want to give up, I'll come and save you," she added as she disappeared right in front of his eyes she had probably moved faster than what he could see.
It seemed that Ashe hadn't lied when saying that an Awakened surpassed a human's capabilities as easily as breathing.
Then, a couple of seconds later, as Darius kept himself in position patiently waiting for a monster to come his way, Ashe reappeared in front of him as if she had never left in the first place.
"It's coming, don't worry I took the weakest that I could find," said Ashe, as she looked into the forest in front of her.
Seeing her act in such a way, Darius also looked in the same direction, still in a fighting position.
Then as he kept looking straight in front of him, waiting for the monster to come his way. He started some slight noises coming from the forest.
It sounded like a laugh, but not so much.
"Kikiki!"
The monster that just came out of the forest kept making this noise over and over again.
When Darius saw what sort of monster that was coming toward him, he could only laugh a little as they were commonly known as the weakest monsters in pretty much every fantasy story which he had heard before.
It was a goblin!
Ashe had brought him a goblin to fight against.
There was now not an ounce of doubt in Darius's mind, he just couldn't lose against such a weak creature.
"Is that what you chose for me to awaken? You should have brought a stronger one," said Darius as he dashed toward the small goblin that kept advancing toward him.
Ashe simply scuffed as she knew that Darius didn't have any battle experience. In her mind, this battle was going to be a close one and there were good chances that she would have to interfere to save him.
However, she ignored that this wasn't Darius which she previously knew. It was a completely new one.
Seeing him, move up to the monster without being a little worried about its strength, Ashe could simply shake her head in disapproval.
However, her disapproval soon changed as something quite unexpected happened.
Darius who had just dashed in, put some power into the knife as he stabbed forward just like he had practiced in his past life.
He had just stabbed the goblin as blood seemed to be leaving its body at quite a rapid pace. Ashe couldn't help but be surprised by such an action.
Darius wasn't finished though as he knew that the goblin was in a weakened state. He needed to press on the advantage which he had just gotten as he continued attacking the goblin who parried some of his strikes with the small dagger which he held in one of his arms.
Then, as he kept attacking the goblin, some of his attacks started getting through and he could see more and more blood coming out of the little creature.
Ashe who was watching from far away was astonished. She had thought that he would have failed or that he might need another try or two, but this was simply incredible. Darius hadn't barely won, he had controlled the fight from the very beginning.
As attacks kept going through, Darius spotted an opportunity and took it as he slashed the goblin's head as soon as he could.
Then, the body of the goblin disappeared or was disappearing. Darius wasn't sure what was happening, however, he guessed that it was probably related to awakening.
"Darius what are you doing to the goblin's body, we need it for your awakening," said Ashe, as she quickly appeared right beside him.
"Uh, but I'm not doing anything though," responded Darius, not sure why she was accusing him of doing such a thing.
It seemed that this situation was unusual which clearly wasn't supposed to happen, however as the goblin's body completely disappeared.
A beeping sound resounded inside Darius's mind.
*BEEP*
[Life Stealing System Activated.]
[You have stolen Life Essence.]
Then, right after the beeping sound, some weird interface appeared in front of Darius with some messages written on them.
'Life Essence? Life Stealing System? What the hell is this?' thought Darius as he could feel a wave of youth course through his entire body making him feel refreshed or stronger, he still wasn't sure.
'Is this normal for an Awakened?'
Not knowing whether or not this interface was normal, he decided that he should ask someone who clearly knew a lot more than him regarding this.
"Hmm, Ashe, is it normal that I have some sort of interface in front of me?" asked Darius, not wanting to reveal the name of the system as it seemed rather unfriendly toward others.
"Wait, you awakened?" she exclaimed out of nowhere. "But how, you didn't even absorb the core energy of the monster," she, then, muttered in such a quiet tone that Darius didn't hear her.
"I awakened? Is this interface common amongst all Awakened?" asked Darius.
"Yeah, it is, the interface as you're calling it, should have a name right?"
"Uh, yeah it does, why?"
"Oh, what is it? The name of your interface or rather the system is an indication as to the types of skill which you'll be able to unlock," explained Ashe, excited to learn about the type of Awakened Darius was going to be.
'Does this mean that I'll be able to Steal Life from others?' thought Darius, confused as to what his future was going to be.
