"Huh?"
Rozen was slightly startled and turned his head toward his back.
The next second, he saw it.
"You're a new player, right?"
The words were spoken by a sylph girl, her voice light and delicate like the sound of wind chimes, resonating in Rozen's ears.
The girl had a figure she could be proud of—although only reaching Rozen's shoulder, her body was voluptuous and graceful. Her dress, resembling a tight, high-waisted corset, perfectly outlined her nearly flawless silhouette. Combined with thigh-high socks, knee-high boots, and golden hair tied into a waist-length ponytail adorned with petal-like accessories, she embodied a charming mix of elegance and playfulness.
Her facial features were strikingly beautiful, accompanied by a pair of pointed ears, making her the perfect example of a lovely elven girl.
This enchanting sylph girl was now floating behind Rozen, fluttering four thin, translucent wings on her back. She hovered in mid-air with a sweet, but subtly hesitant, smile mixed with anticipation.
"And you are…?"
Rozen raised an eyebrow, asking curiously.
In response, the sylph girl smiled, pressing her lips together.
"My name is Leafa."
After introducing herself, she asked him eagerly, "What's your name?"
Her voice carried a mix of nervousness and impatience that only someone very perceptive could notice.
"Me?" Rozen smiled slightly and replied, "I'm Rozen."
That simple answer made Leafa's eyes brighten with delight.
In that instant, her anxiety and hesitation vanished, replaced only by an unreadable joy.
"Welcome to the capital of the Sylph Territory—Swilvane."
Leafa gracefully landed in front of Rozen, folding her wings behind her back, and smiled warmly at him.
"This is your first time playing ALO, right?"
Leafa showed Rozen unusual kindness and concern.
However, Rozen didn't seem surprised at all. Instead, he smiled knowingly and nodded.
"Yes, this is indeed my first time in ALO."
"How is it? Pretty nice being a Sylph, right?"
Leafa puffed out her chest proudly, displaying her confidence.
"It's definitely nice," Rozen replied, his gaze briefly flickering over her impressive figure before shifting to their surroundings. "At the very least, the environment is worth exploring. Looks like I made the right choice."
"Hehe," Leafa giggled happily, as if delighted by his answer. She clasped her hands behind her back and playfully skipped to his side.
"Swilvane is known as the Emerald City, not just because it's greenish in tone, but because it sparkles like an emerald in the eyes of returning Sylphs. When you fly back from a mission someday and look down from above, you'll see what I mean."
Leafa gestured toward a tall tower in the distance.
"See that? That's the Tower of the Wind, the symbol of the Sylphs."
Like a lighthouse at sea, this tower not only represents Swilvane but also serves as a guiding beacon. If you follow the light emitted from the tower, you can always find your way back to the Sylphs' territory.
"And behind the tower is the grand Lord's Manor—the residence of our faction's leader."
Leafa pointed to the most luxurious and magnificent building in the city.
As she described, it was indeed the Lord's official residence.
In ALO, every faction elects a leader once a month. This leader has special administrative powers, such as deciding how taxes are used, issuing commands to players within the faction, and even exiling traitors from their territory. The Lord's Manor functions like a guild hall, serving as the leader's office and base of operations.
"The current Lord and I are on good terms. If you need any help, I can introduce you to her."
Leafa enthusiastically shared everything about Swilvane and the Sylphs.
If this were any other player, they would likely have been enchanted by Leafa's friendliness and charm.
After all, it's hard not to be moved when such a cute elven girl takes the initiative to approach and talk to you.
Unless...
Unless the beauty is only skin-deep.
This isn't SAO, where avatars match the players' real appearances. Here, avatars are randomly generated, meaning that a cute girl in the game could turn out to be, well, far less appealing in reality.
Worse still, gender settings can be changed. The adorable girl warmly smiling at you right now could, in reality, be an unkempt man scratching his feet.
And if you let your guard down, it could result in a broken heart and lifelong trauma.
Moreover, it's inherently suspicious for a beautiful girl to approach you so enthusiastically.
Maybe she's trying to scam you.
Maybe she's eyeing the items in your inventory.
Maybe she wants you to spend your gold on rare equipment.
Or perhaps she's trying to extract personal information from you with ill intentions.
These kinds of situations are all too common in today's gaming environment.
It's not for nothing that the Ministry of Internal Affairs established a virtual crime division, and agents like Kikuoka Seijirou were appointed to handle incidents related to online games.
Being cautious and vigilant is the wisest approach when dealing with these scenarios.
With Rozen's sharp mind, though, who could possibly deceive him?
Yet, he showed no trace of suspicion toward Leafa.
"You seem to know this place well," Rozen remarked with a friendly smile, as if talking to an old acquaintance. "How long have you been playing this game?"
Leafa responded without hesitation.
"I've been playing for a year now," she said with a cheerful grin. "I've been here since the game's early days, and believe it or not, I'm quite skilled."
Out of everything she said, one particular detail caught Rozen's attention.
"A year?" Rozen asked, a little surprised. "You've been playing that long?"
"Yep." Leafa tilted her head, looking curiously at Rozen's surprised expression. "Why? Is there a problem?"
Is there a problem?
Well, in a way, yes.
Rozen simply hadn't expected that Leafa had been playing for such a long time.
"Quite surprising..."
Rozen muttered softly as he reached out and gently patted Leafa's head.
The way he did it—so naturally—was almost unsettling.
