Chương 52: “Barrier”

"Shit, if they just want to follow us how will we escape? I see more than 20 ships" said Tesoro noticing more and more ships.

North, South, East and West. In all directions, ships were arriving, watching Yamamoto's ship and the others at a safe distance, creating a kind of spider web.

Before Yamamoto could speak, a den den mushi sounded, *It must be Olvia* thought Yamamoto as he attended.

"Yamamoto-sensei we've seen a large number of ships heading towards the Ilisia Kingdom!" shouted Olvia worriedly from the other side of the den den mushi.

"Don't worry about that. By the way, were you able to escape safely?" asked Yamamoto.

"Yes..." replied Olvia calmer, "So far no ship got to see us and if they did, they didn't make a big deal out of it" she added.

"That's good, keep heading for the island, I'll catch up" said Yamamoto.

"Ok. The only bad thing is Lego..." commented Olvia with concern in her tone.

"Lego? What happened to him?" asked Yamamoto after a few seconds.

Briefly Olvia told him how Lego wanted to buy them time so they could run away from the marines, but that it was useless as Duncan managed to catch up with them. And if it wasn't for Ivankov they would all be captured.

After that, she told him that a big, stout man saved Lego and took him to the ship with them. His name was Bartholomew Kuma and he was a friend of the big-headed transvestite named Ivankov. However, Lego was in critical condition and was still unconscious.

*Kuma is here too* thought Yamamoto, although he had seen the manga he didn't remember every detail. Not much was known about the Revolutionary Army in the first place either.

As for Lego, he was surprised that he would try to sacrifice himself so that Olvia and Roche could escape, it seems he had honor after all.

"Give him first aid, once he gets to the island I'll try to do something, but let him survive first," Yamamoto said and then said goodbye to Olvia.

"With Ivankov and Kuma you don't have to worry, they will get to the island without much trouble" said Dragon.

"Yes, that's good" nodded Yamamoto.

"That's a lot of ships, shall we try to destroy them all?" asked Dragon as if he wasn't talking about a big deal.

"That will take a long time and they have a lot of distance between them. I have a better idea" said Yamamoto as he made his way to the bow of the ship where two adults could sit quietly.

He sat in a lotus position, then closed his eyes and began to concentrate spiritual energy, giving it a solid form. This spiritual energy slowly started to spread throughout the entire ship.

Tesoro, Stella, Ramsés, and the others watched Yamamoto with strange expressions, not understanding what he was doing. The only one who had a look of surprise on his face was Dragon, although his face was concealed by his cloak. Unlike the others, Dragon could feel the change in the spiritual energy in the environment.

After a few seconds, the concentration of spiritual energy, now in a solid form, covered the entire ship, *First step complete* thought Yamamoto.

"What the hell?" exclaimed Komei, who was observing Yamamoto's ship.

Before his eyes, he saw how slowly Yamamoto's ship and everyone on it began to disappear. Until it disappeared completely, leaving only the ocean as if there had never been a ship there.

In addition to Komei, the other marines were in shock like him. They also saw how the ship disappeared in a couple of seconds. Discussions about where the ship had gone could be heard on all the marine ships.

"Vice Admiral Komei, what happened?" asked a subordinate of Komei beside him in shock.

"Calm down, everyone!" exclaimed Komei, noticing the murmurs on his ship. "They must have used a Devil Fruit ability to hide the ship; it must still be there" he continued.

Then Komei passed instructions to all the other ships to try to make a cage so that Yamamoto's ship could not escape, however, it was useless. There was no trace of the ship that once belonged to Pluming.

What Yamamoto made was a barrier through his spiritual power, to make the ship invisible, and not only that he also hid the spiritual energy residue so that someone possessing haki observation could not find it either.

This was another technique in the basic Spiritual Power manual. Barriers could be put in the Bakudō category as far as Kidō was concerned. Yamamoto's use of them is only one of the uses he can put them to. They can be used in defensive, restraining, or even offensive ways.

"What happened?" asked Tesoro in surprise as he watched the Marine ships break formation.

After a few minutes, they could all watch as their ship calmly passed by a pair of Marine ships, which seemed to see nothing.

*Did he make the ship invisible? How?" thought Dragon doubtfully.

Yamamoto said nothing, still sitting near the bow. He had to concentrate to make the barrier hold, for his low spiritual power this was an arduous task.

Furthermore, the way to use this barrier as provided in the manual wasn't very optimal, to say the least, as it required a constant spiritual energy supply to prevent it from disappearing. Typically, a good barrier doesn't need the user to constantly provide energy; it should stay activated for a specified duration with just a single activation, but this wasn't the case here.

Dragon quickly instructed the others not to bother Yamamoto and gave them a brief overview of what was happening.

One day passed.

"V-Vice Admiral Komei... we've lost him" reported Komei's subordinate.

"Damn it! How many tricks does that old man have up his sleeve?" Komei shouted furiously as he threw his spyglass to the ground, shattering it.

He tried everything possible to locate Yamamoto's invisible ship, but it was futile. Despite having more than 40 ships, no one could find it.

"T-The Headquarters has ordered us to return. It's serious; they found the corpse of Celestial Dragon Pluming, lying in the center of Ilisia Kingdom's city... and the Fire Demon killed King Lucas, and the royal castle is almost destroyed" the nervous marine spoke again.

"Fire Demon..." Komei growled furiously. It was the third time he had defeated the Marines and made them look foolish. However, this time was the most severe of all because he had killed Pluming, a Celestial Dragon.

"A-also..." said the marine hesitantly, he didn't know whether to report this issue to Komei right now.

"What's wrong?" asked Komei with a frown.

"There is... no news of Rear Admiral Boo Kong, the last time he was seen were his subordinates who are now all unconscious" replied the marine.

*That's right Boo Kong! I forgot* thought Komei having a bad feeling. Out of the fury of losing to Yamamoto, he had forgotten that his partner and friend was in the Kingdom of Ilisia when Yamamoto was there.

"Direct the ship to the port of the Kingdom!" ordered Komei to his subordinates. He had to find his friend at all costs.

Since they had found Boo Kong's subordinates alive, he was hopeful that Boo Kong was alive too, they just hadn't found him yet. Although it seemed strange to him that the Fire Demon had left the marines alive.

Arriving at the port, Komei directed all his subordinates to find his friend. First, they went to the city to find information, if anyone had seen a big guy with the marine cape.

They managed to find out that a guy who matched Boo Kong's characteristics had chased a hooded person through the city and into the forest.

Komei and all his subordinates began an exhaustive search through the forest. After about 30 minutes a marine found the traces of Yamamoto's battle with Boo Kong.

Following these clues Komei found a little further away footprints of a person and as if this guy was dragging something. Following the trail, they came to a cave that was very well hidden.

Seeing this, Komei had a bad feeling, but with his subordinates, they entered the cave. When they reached the bottom of the cave what he saw as made him feel a great fury, his eyes were about to pop out from rage.

"FIRE DEMON!" shouted Komei with anger and hatred. In front of him was the corpse of his friend Boo Kong.

The only thing he could recognize of his late friend was the body from the head down, as his head was black, he knew instantly that Yamamoto was responsible for this with his fire devil fruit.

The most shocking thing was his eyes, which in reality were no longer there were only black sockets, adding the burned face was a terrifying sight.

Komei's subordinates, seeing this, felt a churning in their stomachs, feeling a new fear for Yamamoto.

Komei had to strain hard not to shed tears for his friend, although most saw him as a shrewd strategist he had emotions. With the help of his subordinates, they took Boo Kong's body away, they were going to give him a proper burial in Marineford.

*I have to find the fire demon! No matter what!" thought Komei angrily.
