Chương 25: His decision

In the courtroom, Alvin sat on the throne with an aloof expression. One of his arms rested on his thigh, while the other one held the scroll that he had just finished reading. Placing the scroll on the small stool that was on the right side of the throne, he said his face to look at the ministers.

"Maxwell." Alvin called the man who used to train the soldiers for years and the man stood up from where he sat and bowed his head. "Yes your highness." "Gather all the soldiers that you know are capable enough for a fight at the training field. I will join you after some few minutes." The king said and dismissed the man who did not try to question or object anything.

"Savan is planning to attack us and someone in this court is acting as their spy." Alvin said. His voice did not give any hint of anger but the people in the room knew not to be fooled by his calm and unreadable expression. He turned his face while looking at each person who sat in the royal courtroom until his eyes settled on the man who sat in the second column. "If there's something that I loath, it's betrayal and I thought everyone knew very well about that. And as the saying goes, when trust is broken, it can never be fixed. Christopher, why don't you come here. He called the man whose forehead had begun to sweat.

Christopher walked gingerly until he stood in front of the king whose throne was at a raised platform. "Why are you so quiet? I expected you to give me a valid explanation as to why you are selling out information about Avianna. Or you thought that no one would ever find 0ut? Speak!" He said. His voice loud enough to get everyone's attention and the man quickly fell on his knees. "Your highness I swear I would never betray you or this kingdom." The man said with a desperate, shaky voice. "You really are courageous to stand in front of me and spit out lies." Alvin said with a cold voice as he got up from the the throne and got down from where the throne was.

His steps were slow but deliberate and the atmosphere in the room changed into a cold one. "I can never betray Avianna my king. Please believe me." The man continued. Everyone in the room was shocked to hear that Christopher was acting as a spy as he was one of the most trusted men even during the reign of the previous king.

"Someone take this man away. He will be dealt with after the upcoming war." With his words, two guards walked in and took the man roughly, and walked out of the room without listening to his pleas. The room fell silent for a while before the king spoke again. "I will be the one to lead the upcoming war." His words brought murmurs which later broke into noises. "Your highness, you can't go. It is against the rules for the king to go for war considering the fact that you do not have an heir to succeed the throne if anything happens to you." One of the ministers said to which everyone in the room agreed.

"I did not ask for anyone's opinion here. I was informing you about my decision!" Came his words as his voice echoed in the room with an authority and a hint of warning. "I am done here." With those words, Alvin walked out of the room followed by his legal advisor.

Jade was woken up by a soft knock on the door which surprised her when she scrambled out of the bed. looking at the clock on the wall her eyes widened when she realized it was twelve in the midday. How on earth would she sleep like a log in an unsafe place for her! She thought with a sigh as she walked towards the door.

Opening the door, a beautiful young girl who appeared to be eighteen walked into the room. "Milady, I was assigned here to help you prepare." The girl said without directly looking at Jade. "Come in." Jade stepped aside so that the girl would get into the room.

Jade's preparation was a short one as she refused to be washed by the maid but she was dressed up by her. She was dressed like a princess. A beautiful light blue long sleeved gown adorned her petite body and her long curly black hair was tied loosely into a burn while leaving strands of hair falling from her temple up to her cheeks and her lips were tinted pink making her more beautiful and the maid couldn't help but admire her. "Milady, you are so pretty." The young maid complimented her with a smile and Jade smiled back at her. "Thank you. You have not told be your name yet." Jade said and the maid smiled sheepishly on realizing the simple mistake that she had made. "It's Jazmine milady." She answered. "The king sent some jewelry that might be to your taste." She continued as she walked back to the dressing table and opened a box that contained expensive jewels. Upon seeing the jewels, Jade remembered about her silver pendant that had a blue stone which would go well with the dress she had worn and walked to her word robe where she picked it and put it around her neck. "Th_ that is very beautiful milady." Jazmine who saw her was amazed by how angelic the young woman looked. She had a pale innocent face that could be admired by both men and women. "The king said that he will be here in a few minutes. Do you need anything else." Hearing about him Jade's hands tightened into a loose fist when she recollected the scenes of the previous night. "No Jazmine, you can continue with your work." With her words, the young maid got out of the room leaving Jade who walked towards the dressing table and stood in front of the mirror.
