When the horse halted in front of large gates, Jade was mesmerized by the beautiful artistic designs of the gates that were right in front of her. There were large eagles at either side of the gates and Jade couldn't help but wonder where she could have seen that gate until it finally dawned on her. It was the palace' gates. She had seen the gates in several books she had read and she now wondered whether it was the palace or whether it was just similar design.
Alvin who was the first one to dismount the horse helped jade to get down from the horse as she continued to gawk at the place absentmindedly. "Do you work in this place?" She asked as she walked towards a rose bush that was planted at the right side of the drawbridge."Yes I work here." He replied.Alvin couldn't help but admire the girl that he fell for at the first sight. She was just as beautiful as those white roses that she was touching without plucking She was a gift that he was ready to die for.
Before any of them could talk, the gates were opened whereby Alvin walked towards jade and held her hand. "Let us go inside." We're his short words and Jade hesitantly walked in with him. Ever since he became the king, Alvin had always gotten what he wanted without even raising a finger but when he first saw her, it was the time that he realized that he didn't have everything. He did not have her. He had bedded many women, some for pleasure while others he slept with, he was using them so that he could get some information or favours from them but with jade, it was different. He wanted to protect her; To have her in all ways that he wanted and most of all was so that he could have her by his side and now that she was right next to him he would never let her go.
"Alvin you are back!" It was a girl who was wearing a beautiful dark green gown with golden freckles who came towards them excitedly. "Yes of course Celine you didn't expect my dead body now did you?" Alvin sarcastically asked but that did not lower the girl's smile. You will never change....By the way, who is she." The girl named Celine asked while looking at jade who also turned to face her. " This is jade. You'll get to know her soon. Jade, we should get going you must be really tired." Alvin answered and without any other words his hand was on jade's waist whereby he pulled her so that they could start walking.
"So, you are really the king?" Jade asked without even turning to look at him. "You don't seem to be surprised." Alvin stated the obvious, his eyes looking ahead as he could see his aunt talking to a maid who bowed her head meekly. "I am not surprised by that, what surprises me is how a demon became a king." "What will surprise you more milady, is when you will become this demon's wife." Jade could not not believe what she was hearing. She had never thought about getting married until Joseph confessed his feelings for her and on the other hand, there was a demon in human disguise trying to bring up the topic that she had never been comfortable with. "I don't think that I would be the right choice fo...." Before she could finish what she was saying, she saw a beautiful lady coming from opposite direction, She did not look happy or friendly like the one she had first met which made Jade wonder if she was one of the king's concubines but when she came closer, she saw that the woman seemed to be in her late thirties...."Greetings your highness, I came looking for you but I was told that you left." The woman said without even sparing a glance at the woman next to the king. On hearing that, Alvin laughed. "What a caring family I have. I have been gone for two days and you had not realized that I was gone. You know, I also need to talk to you but that will have to wait until tomorrow Elisa, we have a lot to talk about. And I don't like it when people come to my quarters without an invitation." The king said and he could see anger and embarrassment that Queen Elisa tried to hide with a fake smile. "Forgive me your highness for my behavior." Elisa said with a bow and walked past them.
"How do you expect them to know whether you are here or not when you keep on appearing and disappearing whenever you feel like?" Jade asked. She had come across many people especially at the royal school, but not even once had she ever come across a demon. "I don't expect anything from these idiots who pretend to care about me jade, you are the only one that I need. Sometimes I feel like I could kill them and take their souls to hell myself but the time is not right yet." Jade was shocked by the words that came out of his mouth which made her footsteps to halt but Alvin gently pulled her wrist so that they could get inside the room that was opened by the guards.
"I don't think I have much time left to live." Jade thought and as if Alvin could read her mind he was quick to speak. "I don't go around killing people my sweet girl. I only kill those who do not deserve to live." Shutting the door, Alvin walked towards the large bed that was at the centre of the room and sat at the edge. He could see how much jade wanted to turn around and leave since she was not far away from the door.
"As much as I am okay with others calling me a demon, it does not sit well with me when you call me that my dear lady." Alvin said as he folded the shirt that he was wearing up to the elbows. "That's the only logical explanation that anyone can come up with. How can you move from place to place within a blink of an eye?" Jade who was still standing near the door asked. "The number of people who know about my abilities are two, you and the man who brought the horse that we used to come here. I received this ability from the sea goddess when I was a small boy. I need to tell you this because you should know at least half side of my story Jade. So, will you come join me on the bed or will you sit at the couch?" Alvin asked and Jade gingerly walked towards the couch.
