Chương 5: the first one to die
On their way back home, Jade kept on recollecting what had happened in the morning. The scenes that had occurred in the middle of the forest kept on flashing in her mind during the day. Her life had been peaceful that year that she had spent in Avianna; why did this have to happen?!She asked herself as she turned around to look at her friend who was left behind as she also seemed to also be in deep thought, she tried to start up a conversation so that she could get her mind off what had happened that morning.
"Lydia why are you so quiet, I almost forgot that we were walking together? She asked as she stopped walking so that her friend could catch up with her. Lydia's smile widened upon her friend's question. She was the one who was supposed to ask her that because she had been acting all weird since morning. "You are the one who has been quiet today. It's very unusual you know! ; I have been meaning to ask, what happened while you were in the bathroom because since then you have not been yourself." She asked as she looked at her friend who quickly turned her face away. How could Jade tell her friend that she met a devil in human disguise and she didn't know when or where he would pop up.
"Actually, I have a very bad headache and I can't wait to get home and rest. I also think that I will start working at the border. Teaching is not in me and when James mentioned about the governesses job at the border, I have been thinking about it since last night and I think that it would be the best for me." On saying those words, Jade started walking only to be stopped by Lydia who held her hand, When she turned around, Lydia gave her a tight hug. She knew something was bothering Jade and she was not ready to talk about it;
Jade was totally confused on why Lydia had suddenly hugged her but she didn't say anything. "I know there's something disturbing you jade, and if you are not ready to talk about it I won't force you. But promise me one thing; That you'll be safe because this time I won't accompany you at the border. When you will be ready to talk, I promise you that I'll be here to listen." Lydia said as she withdrew from the hug. All that Jade wanted was to tell her friend what had happened but she did not want her to think that she was out of her mind. Who in their right mind would believe such an explanation. After she is far away from the city that demon would never find her.

In the royal palace, Alvin was in the courtroom talking to the treasurer who seemed to be very nervous. "So you mean that this is the only amount you have been receiving from the royal school Joseph?" He asked while looking at the records that were in the parchment that he was holding. With a sneer, Alvin threw the parchment to that treasurer who quickly dodged it.
" I don't know what my stupid aunt promised you so that you could steal the money from the royal school. But I can assure you one thing Joseph, I don't work with pests." With those words, Alvin stood up from the throne and took slow deliberate steps towards Joseph while holding the sword that he had put on the right side of his seat. Joseph tried to beg for his life but the king cared less about it.
Alvin raised the sword and looked at it admiringly as he ran his fingers on its edges which bruised him but he didn't care about it because he would heal in no time. In a blink of an eye he had stubbed the treasurer who looked at him in disbelief. When he was about to fall on his knees, Alvin withdrew the sword from Joseph's stomach and dropped it on the ground.
"Such a shame that you thought you'd steal from me and live. Look at what you did to yourself." Alvin said while looking at Joseph who had already fallen on the floor. Without sparing a glance to the dying man, he walked out of the courtroom to talk to his personal guard. "Javier, take care of that mess. And if he's not dead, finish him off." After saying those words, Javier entered the courtroom while Alvin headed towards the garden.
Alvin walked slowly in the garden which was totally quiet. The only thing that could be heard was his shoes that were clicking on the hard Mable pavement. Looking ahead of him, he started recalling those few minutes he had spent with Jade in the heart of the forest. He had seen her beautiful face but now he wanted to see all of her. He also wanted to see the beauty that was hidden under that dress that she wore.
It was his first time to be intrigued that much by a woman. He always got what he wanted because women were always after him since when it came to looks, he had surpassed every man, but when it came to Jade, it seemed like all that didn't matter to her. "Jade, who are you?" he muttered under his breath.
Without even turning around he could tell that his butler was behind him and with that ha turned his head and waited for him to talk. "Your highness, Queen Elisa has been keeping the money that she stole in Savan. I think that she has an ally there." The butler said with his head bowed. "Just dig in and find the person who is helping her. Does she think that she can dethrone me? If she wants her old heart to stop beating she should mess with me." Alvin said with a smirk.
"Yes Alvin, I'll do that, do you want her grave prepared?" The butler asked while dropping the honorifics. "She won't be the one to die Albert, her son will be the first one." Alvin replied while dipping his hands in the pockets.
"Albert, tomorrow I want to be my eyes and ears here. I won't be around for the whole day so make sure that those two don't leave this place until I'm back." Alvin said and walked away without waiting for the butler's reply.
