Chương 8: 5 Birthday Celebration

"Come now Aroura you don't need to cry over something so simple." Lily looked at Aroura with a gentle gaze.

"I-*hick* I-I th-thought-t you hated me!"

Ambrose stopped his log hearing his sister cry so hard. Shaking his head he kneeled down next to her and joined the hug, "We could never hate such a cute sister."

The trio spent half an hour hugging each other. Only after so long did Aroura stop crying.

After they stopped hugging Aroura shouted loudly, "Let's go plant hunting!" Acting as if she hadn't spent half an hour crying, Aroura started running around while looking at all the different plants around.

The twins sighed as they saw this. They loved their little sister to death, yet she seemed as if she needed constant affirmation that she was, in fact, loved. Randomly she would believe they hated her. Although it was annoying, they loved her too much to care about such things.

"Come Aroura. Look this is the new plant of today." Ambrose brought the attention back to the plant he was logging.

Aroura quickly ran beside Ambrose as she stared intently at the plant. Lily only chuckled as she also went beside Ambrose and observed the plant.

"See this Aroura? The stem goes in a spiral pattern. With these huge leaves and grooves it makes the water go straight to the center. This allows the plant to have deeper roots than most."

"Happy birthday!" Both Edmund and Adeline cheered at the same time.

"Huh?" The twins looked at each other in confusion.

"It is your birthday! Happy fifth birthday!"

Normal families don't celebrate every birthday, instead, they celebrate specific milestone birthdays. This should have been the twin's sixth birthday as that is when they can take the Mana exam. The next after that is supposed to be their celebration of becoming an adult. There are supposed to be no other celebrations.

"Isn't it that only the sixth birthday that is celebrated?" Lily was the first to ask questions.

"Yeah, major milestones are the ones that are celebrated." Ambrose backed her up as he asked the same question differently.

"Well, as might know, we are doing amazing both financially and physically, so we have decided that we should celebrate more. So from now on every birthday will be celebrated!" Edmund spoke with a joyful tone as he told his children of what would happen in the future.

This time all three children looked at each other in confusion. Although they now understood what was happening, that didn't mean they understood anything about what it meant to have a birthday.

"Ummm... So how does this work?"

They knew it was a celebration, but no one ever told them what a celebration even was!

This time it was Edmund and Adeline's turn to look at each other with some confusion. Most of the time their children acted so mature that they forgot they didn't know everything.

Quickly realizing the problem Edmund's awkward voice came out, "Well... *ahem* We will have a get-together as a family and have a feast as well as a few games we have planned. Most birthdays have many visitors, but we have done this celebration sort of out of nowhere so it will only be us."

Lily still confused asked, "So it is just like a regular dinner, but with more food?"

Edmund couldn't say anything as the way she had put it was technically correct, but so lackluster from what it should be! Luckily Adeline was there to save the day, "Almost like that, but there is more focus on interactions and at the end of the celebration you will receive gifts!"

The three children seemed to be enlightened as Ambrose stepped up and patted his dad's leg, "If you wanted to spend more time together you didn't need to say so instead of setting up a celebration."

Lily followed her brother's actions as she patted her mother's leg, "Yeah, just say something if you really want to spend time with us."

Aroura, seeing her sibling's example, quickly followed suit and started patting each parent's leg independently. "It's okay. It's okay. It's okay."

Seeing that all their children acted the same way, both parents started to worry about their future children.

"You... *sigh* We really need to focus on teaching you brats some common sense." After saying this Edmund picked up the small Aroura and started walking into the house.

Adeline followed her husband with the same look of being done with the entire world. "Come kids, we made you a cake that you can enjoy after you eat dinner."

"Cake?" This was something that neither of them had ever heard of before. So with curiosity, they followed their parents inside the house to eat dinner.

Dinner often included some type of grain-based bread and puffball mushrooms and a simple soup. Sometimes there would be fish that their father had fished from the river. This time it was different as there was actual meat from a land animal.

This day had many firsts for the twins as they looked at everything their parents prepared with great interest. After dinner came a few games that were prepared. This included a few simple card games(made of wood) that the twins learned to play extremely quickly. The games helped the family bond better as talking over a game felt easier somehow...

After all the fun came and went, Adeline placed the cake on top of the table. The cake was split into two sections with their own simple candle.

"This candle represents all the luck and Mana you have gathered throughout the year. You are supposed to blow it out while wishing for something. It is said that the Mana will power your wish while the luck will guide it."

"Really?" The twins looked at the lit candles in wonder.

"Of course, just take your time and make a wish."

The pair looked at each other before focusing back on the candle. As they watched the wax melt they wondered what to wish for. They didn't doubt that this was a truly magical candle. All they wanted was to make a great wish that they wouldn't regret...

And so... They closed their eyes... and blew...
