Chương 28: Resolution

As Adam took his first few steps into Marshlin Forest, Adam's first plan of action was to set up shelter.

He would be there for a while, it would be prudent of him if he had a place better than the tent he set up before.

It took a few hours but he had managed to set up a rudimentary base, with a fire this time, akin to the third test.

Noticing that there was plenty of daylight left in the sky, Adam began seeking out the targets for the quests.

These being ogres, wolves and goblins.

He found that goblins were more active at night. The same went for wolves.

Different to them, based off of his first experience in facing an ogre, they showed up a bit earlier.

Adam decided to hike up the mountainous area of the forest, to see if he could find any wolves.

'There had to be a few.' Adam thought.

Adam was not disappointed, after looking for a while, he found a den of wolves.

Stepping up to them, Adam's held the halberd diagonally, nearly touching the ground.

Adam's strength was solid, with minimal rest, he was able to stay awake for quite a while.

Seeing him approach, the wolves strutted towards him.

Snarling, they walked a bit closer, circling the entrance of the den.

Seeing that there was wolf cub behind the group of wolves, Adam looked away.

He would leave one wolf to look after it.

Though he may doing a quest, he knew better than deprive someone who, if they weren't anything like goblins, a chance of survival.

Adam lunged forth, striking a wolf.

It whined as it was repelled to the ground, mortally wounded.

Quickly taking out the embedded halberd, he struck it out to the side.

His halberd shooting through the stomach of a wolf.

Falling to its side, Adam examined the situation.

Two wolves were nearing death's door.

Growling in anger, the other wolves pounced at him.

He lifted his leg and slammed it against the nearest blitzing wolf.

Throwing his elbow out it met a wolf, which crashed to the ground.

Spinning, he twirled the halberd and struck the third wolf that was inches from Adam, in the head.

A loud crunch as the blow landed against it's skull.

Two more wolves approached running around in diverging directions the defeated wolves.

Adam flung his knee up, hitting a wolf in the jaw that ran at him from the left.

It was left in a daze.

With the opportunity it brought, the other wolf that was at the right, moments away, he jabbed out his halberd vertically.

It hit its front legs, causing it to fall back.

Plunging, stabbing and striking down the halberd repeatedly, except the cub and one wolf he hit in the skull to look after it, the wolves in this den were dealt with.

As a lack of mobility that was required for scavenging and hunting, was a death sentence in the wilderness.

His choice to spare the two made, he heard a notification in his ear.

Ignoring it for the moment, he took fangs of the wolves as proof for the quest.

Not even twenty minutes passed before he was finished, and he walked away from the den.

Adam took the moment to look at the notification from before.

[Ding! You have reached a milestone, for sparing someone for the first time, earning the item: Calming Amulet! ]

He got his first item from the system.

Interested, he checked out the system inventory and saw the amulet in one of the boxes.

As his thoughts centered on the box with the amulet, a system window appeared.

[Calming Amulet: An item when worn calms down a person, supporting them in finding peace.]

Thinking of it, stretching his hand out, the amulet that looked like a jade, fell onto his gloved hand.

When he put it on, a sense of tranquility washed over his thoughts.

The emotional turmoil from taking out the wolves declined.

His frown slowly receding to near indifference.

The slightest of tremors struck his heart as he looked over his shoulder at the wolves.

Hunting animals, hunting monsters, he did not want to become someone who took lives lightly.

Sighing, he sat on the ground, he gathered his feelings.

If he was attacked, he would fight back.

If it was necessary to do what he desired, he would act.

If it took slaying monsters, or killing beasts, he would, enough to be a hero.

Inhaling slowly and exhaling deeply, he got back to his feet.

Sparing others was the right thing to do.

But, admittedly, it wasn't the best route to where he wanted to go.

Still, he had a line.

Refocusing, he started looking for more wolves.

The day turned into night as he hunted more wolves.

His hazel eyes reflecting a trace of dark purple as the moon's rays met his upward glance.

The night sky above, his halberd shining in the glow of the moon, his hunt carried on.

An isolated ringing sounding out occasionally, that he didn't focus on for the moment.

His target shifted from wolves to goblins, after a while.

The traces of mercy he possessed dissipated, as he remembered his experience with them in the third test.

Peering through the sea of trees, he found a group of goblins quarrelling.

Calmed by his new amulet, he struck at them.

Pierced through it's gut, the goblin in front of him collapsed.

He mused: 'How is that for a statue?' before lunging at the goblin nearby with a follow-up strike of his halberd, flopping to the earth.

The hunt getting just started, Adam raced after the escaping goblins.

Accelerating, Adam sighed, sweat dripping down his forehead.

Having caught up to the goblins, he swung his halberd with all the force he could muster.

...

Adam laid before the fire, that was positioned near the base he set up.

His head resting on the halberd, the light of the fire beaming on him, he fell asleep.

Groggy and slightly sore as he awoke to the harsh sunlight, he saw the notifications that had stacked up, after his hunting session.

The screens seemed to bounce subtly, as they now held his focus.

He began to read through them.

Adam's brows raising, it seems he had gained quite a bit from the hunt.
