Chương 32: Chapter 32: A Roommate and Class Separation

Orientation day finally ended, and all of the students went returned to their places of residence be it the academy's dorm or someplace off campus they all went to rest after this long first day. Mill went to his dorm for the first time since he got here and almost immediately passed out from exhaustion as soon as he walked into the room. "Man, why was this day so long?" Mill let out a long sigh and rested his eyes a bit.

"Good you're finally here. Now we can get started." Mill opened his eyes and looked around. "Is someone there?" He felt a light tap on shoulder and jumped deeper into the room. "Calm down, man. I just want to get these boundaries set from day one, so that we don't have any problems." Mill saw a person around his own age standing directly left of the entrance as if they were waiting for Mill to come in.

"Boundaries? What are you talking about? Who are you?" The person stared at the confused Mill and sighed. "I guess you didn't know about the roommate arrangements either." Roommate arrangements? Mill had heard of no such thing. "Since when did we have roommates?"

"Since the dean decided that it would be a good idea to throw multiple people in the same room as a way for them to expand their connections as future adventurers." Mill's roommate spoke in a tone that emphasized just how tired he was. "Look man all you need to know is that my name is Deon and I'm a third-year student that's been forced to comply with this stupid roommate thing."

"You're a third year? Are you sure?" Mill looked at Deon closely. He had ashen gray skin, and he was shorter than Mill by at least a foot or two. He had a sharp teeth and black pupils. He had sharp ears and long ears that pointed out of his head and messy red hair. "I'm a goblin, dude. Well, an ash goblin but still a goblin nonetheless so I won't look as old as I am but I'm actually 20." Deon walked pass Mill who was standing thinking. "I guess that makes sense. sorry for the trouble, Deon."

"Whatever dude. My room's the first door on the right and yours is at the end of the hall to the left. Both have bathrooms so you keep your stuff in your room, and I'll keep mine in my room, so we have no problems. We can share the kitchen since we don't eat the same things due to our species being different so that shouldn't be a problem. It was cool meeting you I guess but we might not interact much." With that Deon quickly went to his room and locked the door leaving Mill all alone still at the entrance. He stood in silence for a bit before snapping out of his trance.

"That was strange." Mill went to the room at the end of the hallway. "I think this is the one." He opened the door and saw the empty room and with a mattress sitting in the center. He sighed and started to take his stuff out of his bags and put his room together. It took him about 30 minutes to finish and he sat on his bed once he did. He looked around his room at all of the stuff that he brought.

He had his short swords on the wall sheathed so that he could grab them in the before class and so that they wouldn't dull too quickly. He also had the weird black orb from a sitting next to his bed. Mill still didn't know what the orb did but it was the only thing that he got from the exam so it must be something special. "I really hope you're not useless, Feo." Mill would occasionally talk to the orb when he got bored and named it Feo because...because he wanted to, I guess. It's really weird that he named the inanimate orb all of a sudden, but that's him.

Mill eventually fell asleep and put finally ended the long first day at the academy and even got to have just a bit of fun. Tomorrow though, is the first day of learning this new path that he'll take. And so, Mill slept peacefully into the night as he knew that something was gonna happen tomorrow.

...

"We will now divide you into different ranks based on your classifications and your mandatory classes will be determined based on your rank." Mill sighed. "I knew something was gonna happen but why did it have to be this?" It was first thing in the morning when Mill got woken up by a loud horn and told to report to the colosseum only to be divided into the five ranks that he had learned about yesterday. "We'll be ordering the ranks from lowest to highest starting from left and moving right. So, if you are a Nobody-rank start on the left and if you are a Legend-rank start please go to the right.

Everyone started to fall in line with their ranks including Mill as he walked into the Nobody-rank section. 'I wonder what rank Pierce would've been. Probably at least Myth-rank, right?" Mill sighed. Once the students were split in their ranks the group of Nobody-ranks started to get instructions.

"Alright students. You guys are what's considered rare cases as in you didn't inherit a passive or active ability from your ancestors or you may not have had a recognizable ancestor in the first place." The instructor looked at Mill when he said that. "That does mean that you all will be a bit behind but that doesn't mean that you can't work your way up the adventurer ranks with your personal skills." The instructor looked around at the students to make sure they were listening.

"So, you all will be taking multiple classes meant to bring out the full potential of your natural skills. Just think of all of this as the very start and if you work hard enough you might end up similar to Mill." The class looked over to Mill causing him to straighten up from slight discomfort. "Mill you are one of the most unique people in this academy due to your lack of an ancestor and an ability, so you'll be a beacon of light for our class of rarities alright."

"Me? I don't think I did anything to deserve being a beacon of light. I just did whatever I could to learn with the help of my family." The instructor proudly nodded at Mill. "Humility is a good thing to have. Knowing that you are not the one on top is something that can help you push yourself. Now, follow me to the first class that you all will take which happens to be my class." Mill turned to the other groups and saw Karl and Darren in the Myth-rank group talking and Lua and Lacey in the Legend-rank group doing not actually interacting as Lacey was surrounded by a group of elves.

Mill reluctantly turned away. "I guess I'm the only one in this group." Mill followed the group to the same building that he was in yesterday only the room that he was in was different. The room was far bigger and was emptier than the dojo that he was in. It had there were pods and consoles place about the room. "Welcome everyone, to the academy's simulation room.  You all remember the testing simulation room, of course. These are similar to those except we won't just throw you in randomly and you can even control where go and what you fight."

The instructor led the students through the room into another room that was just passed it. This room was just big and open. "And this is where we'll be having class. Specifically, Aura Training!" All of the students started to talk amongst themselves.

"I thought we couldn't use aura?"

"Yeah, isn't that a type of passive ability?" The instructor interrupted all of the students' thoughts. "Aura is a thing that all creatures have innate access to, unlike mana, and the ability just means that you don't need to learn to use it as you already can. That does come with its own consequences as you don't get the opportunity to understand what aura is at its core." The teacher went into a deep explanation about what aura is and everyone listened intently but most so Mill.

'I don't think I've ever used aura. I should try it later.'
